This song was a lucky find on a Robert Shaw album I bought a few years ago. I can’t recall the name of the album, but I do recall trying to figure out whether the main singer was a contralto or a counter-tenor. I’m still not sure, but I’m leaning towards counter-tenor though there’s a lot of cross over with those voice parts. I can sing it either way as I’ve been an alto II for years, much to my once sorrow. I accept it now, because it just is what it is, and hearing such rich tones as the ones here proves that being an alto bears no shame.
Bonus song because the same person is singing in Shaw’s arrangement of “The Cherry Tree Carol,” which is another one of my favorites.
