Question of the Week: 9/11/16

<–Question of the Week: 9/4/16          Question of the Week: 9/18/16–>

The Question of the Week is posted every Sunday and will consist of a question followed by my answer and explanation to the same.  Some questions will only require a simple answer that could potentially be followed by an explanation.  Many questions will be writer oriented, but not all.  Everyone is encouraged to answer in the comments and discussions/follow up questions are more than welcome!

What’s your favorite type of cookie?

Years ago I was gifted the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world.  It involves using butter flavored Crisco instead of butter, which means the cookies remain soft for eternity.  Let me see if I can remember it in its entirety…

3/4 cups Butter flavored Crisco (so 3/4 of a stick)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 T Milk
1 T Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
3/4 T Baking Soda
1 T Salt
2 cups Flour
1 cup Chocolate Chips

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (Fahrenheit).

You mix the Crisco and brown sugar.  Add the milk, vanilla extract, and eggs.  Then the baking soda and salt, and finally the flour a little at a time.

For the chocolate chips you can use all milk chocolate, but I like to do half milk and half white.  I wouldn’t recommend all white since I think that makes the cookies a bit too sweet.  You can also make these cookies without chocolate chips, and they’re still just as good.

The recipe called to bake them for 10 minutes, but I knocked that down to 7.  Remove them from the oven and let them sit on top.  The residual heat will bake them a little more, leaving you with gooey goodness.

I don’t know if I can say that chocolate chip is my favorite type of cookie, but I love this recipe.  I tend to only make them around Christmas time, because they’re so dangerously good.

There are also these guys…

I don’t make these; I get them from my local supermarket.

And this weekend I decided to make this recipe for cake batter fudge, which I wholly blame Cupcakes and Machetes for due to her Peanut Butter Fudge recipe.  How DARE you??!!!

It’s so good and way too easy to make.  I was going to do cookie dough fudge, which would’ve been perfect for this post, but that was more complicated, and I’m a lazy baker.

What’s your favorite type of cookie?  Do you typically make it during a particular time of the year or is the entire cycle fair game?  Is there another dessert/confection you prefer?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!

  2. Double chocolate chip cookies are my favourite. My baking level isn’t high enough to try making any myself, but this post makes me want to run over to my local bakery… now!

    • Mmmm those sound amazing! My job’s cafeteria sells double chocolate chip cookies, and they’re like heaven. I try to get them when they’re kind of solid on the outside, but soft on the inside. Then there’s this grocery store called Wegman’s that’s mostly just local to my area. They make everything in house, and everything is good. It’s like they want me to remain squishy in the middle lol :p

I’m also partial to, ugh, what are they even called? They’re butter cookies, but their the type that are common around Christmas. I’ve heard them called spritz, but I grew up just calling them butter cookies. You either use cookie cutters or a cookie press then cover them with sprinkles. Delish!

  3. Oh I dare! 😛 My BFF recently claimed I’m trying to force everyone in the house to develop diabetes. I threatened to stop baking and was met with angry stares.
My favorite cookies are peanut butter. The classic peanut butter cookie. (Which I have yet to make.) Close second is peanut butter chocolate chip. :3

  4. I kind of have weird preferences when it comes to cookies. The only type that I would go out and say that I fully, truly love is chocolate chip. The others can easily be summed up as “generally decent, but tastes vaguely like clay” (Lofthouse) and “far too plain for my liking” (Sugar).
