A weekly post updated every Sunday discussing my current writing projects and where I stand with them. This will include any and all work(s) in progress (WIP) be they creative writing, essays/analyses, or reviews of any type.
Project: Story
Title: The Broken Rose
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction (FFVII) Novel
Current Word Count: 270,271
Prior Word Count: 273,586
Word Difference: -3,315
Status: Editing
Progress: 2nd edit of Chapter 8
I cut out about the entire chapter break I mentioned last week after salvaging the parts I wanted. The chapter is ten pages shorter. There’s much to be said for the editing process.
I was considering using the picture of the white shoes with bows above for the chapter picture, but I was tired when I considered it and couldn’t find a font that I liked. I could also find a picture that fits even better. I’m on the second edit, but in a way it’s more like the first since I spent most of that cutting out and rearranging. Editing 12 pages is going to go much quicker than editing 22.
Quote: This tiny maid who’d been so abused was now dripping in luxury. She slipped on flat shoes as light as her skirt, adorned in white ribbons as well. Maybe they’d go out to greet the great sea. She wasn’t sure due to the rain. Gazing down at the two strips of white in her hand, the Cetra’s lip trembled hard. Her fingers just fumbled among chestnut waves, binding her only with tears.
Project: Book Reviews
Title: The Dream Thieves
Status: Planning
I finished Ms. Stiefvater’s second book in her illustrious Raven Cycle Series this week, so it’s time to write another review. I’ll probably work on it Friday or Saturday, but I may set up the preliminaries today.
What are you currently working on? Is it a creative writing project, essay, review, or something else? Have you just started something new or are you wrapping up a long term project?

I can’t imagine editing quite so much! I’d have to have an editor as I’d find it too difficult to remove chunks of work I’d produced.

I had a short story professor who called it “cutting the darlings.” It can definitely be tough, but I always have copies saved just in case I utterly regret what I just did hehe. I figure I can always re-purpose anything I’ve cut out from one work into another. I may not, but this is what I tell myself 🙂

I’m impressed Adrienne! You really were merciless!💁🏻

A lot of what I was saying was redundant! That’s been my main issue with this story: redundancy. It’s hard to balance reiteration with that. I want to repeat certain things thematically, but not verbatim 🙂

Kudos to you for being strong enough to cut things from your writing when it is necessary. 🙂 A lot of people have a hard time with that. I have a lot of respect for your editing process from what I’ve read about it. You can tell you put a lot of work into it.
I’m still on the “necro rhino” 30 day writing spree. So far so good! Today I was very busy with other things though so I have some catching up to do tomorrow. :O

Cutting the darlings as my creative writing prof used to call it! It does take a lot to be able to let go of something you might have spent a ton of time on, but I always consider I might be able to use it elsewhere or repurpose it. Since I email myself all the time, I never really “lose” anything (that happened in the past, which is WHY I email myself).
I saw you were around 4k in the last post so you seem to be keeping up with it!

Wow! That sounds like quite an editing process you have going there. My hype level for Chapter 8 is way passed max now 🙂

I’m actually almost ready to post it! I started the third edit last night and read through about half the chapter, and I have the chapter cover made, too. I’m also trying to figure out when I’m going to work on the editing of Northern Lights posts again. Another blogger friend put the idea of doing things biweekly in my head, which is why I made that macro on Monday, and I’m going to do NL editing posts (or at least work on them) on the other Monday.

Yass!! 🙂 Also thanks for reminding me I still need to read the NL notes you have posted. Biweekly sounds like a good plan!

I can’t believe I never thought of doing things biweekly before, lol. I’m really indebted to Pokeninja for that brilliant idea 🙂
