A weekly post updated every Sunday discussing my current writing projects and where I stand with them. This will include any and all work(s) in progress (WIP) be they creative writing, essays/analyses, or reviews of any type.
Project: Story
Title: The Broken Rose
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction (FFVII) Novel
Current Word Count: 269,439
Prior Word Count: 269,521
Word Difference: -82
Status: Editing
Progress: 1st edit of Chapter 9
It was a slow week for editing. I only managed to get some in yesterday even though I kind of had time during the week. It was more having both the time, energy, and concentration.
This is the first chapter that introduces more people since Aeris is finally ready to take her first walk around town with Sephiroth of course. Since more characters are going to be involved (albeit minimally), I need to be on my A game.
I’ll have to apologize to people because Chapter 9 ends a bit abruptly, and Chapter 10 is a direct continuation of it. Additionally, I think 10 is going to be another complicated edit like 8. However, because I took some notes on how I want to proceed with these next two chapters, it may not be that bad. Editing is arduous work.
Quote: Sephiroth had bought her bracelets once. The snap had driven her to the floor. Aeris had curled into herself, weeping as if skies did fall. Again, she was *there,* naked and chained, awaiting a whip or a thrust. Then the slim band was gone from her wrist and she was in her guardian’s arms. Held tight to his chest with her head on his shoulder, fingers buried in moonlight hair. Her body had known without conscious thought where her salvation lay, and through horror’s layers his low voice did thread, ever soft, ever gentle for her.
He replaced them with hair combs and shoes, one pair she was wearing right now. Flat and white with pink roses to match the ribbons at waist and crown. Nothing that touched her tender skin now was anything less than luxury, and the Cetra re-clasped her hands before and wished she could remember old prayers.
Project: Game Review
Title: World of Final Fantasy
Status: Drafting
Current Word Count: 720
Prior Word Count: 125
Word Difference: +595
I’m chugging along with what’s going to be another long review. I’m not sure if it will reach the length of Final Fantasy IV, because it has a bit of a simpler story, but it’s still Final Fantasy, so there are those common beat points involved. I’m currently enmeshed in the Gameplay section, which is frankly quite fun to write. I both love watching and explaining processes, the latter of course being ones I understand enough to explain (please do not ask me to explain how to cut hair or change engine oil. You will be disappointed), since the very act of explaining something helps me understand it better, as well.
I’ve broken the Gameplay section up into parts since there are so many moving ones with WOFF, and I’m currently on Mirage and Stacking mechanics. There will probably be a lot of cutting and pasting as I decide the best places to put everything. Since this will be a fairly long project, I’m going to try to work on it Wednesdays and Fridays, the former being the day I typically played the game.
Project: Book Review
Title: The Quantum Door
Author: Jonathon Ballagh
Status: Planning
Since I finished this this week, it’s time for a review. I haven’t even drafted the preliminary information, which I’m hoping to get to today. I’m not expecting this to be a long review, but I’ve been surprised before. This is mid-grade to YA novel, so it’s not an overly complicated tale, but I do have a few concrits. I’m hoping to get this out before the end of the week.
What are you currently working on? Is it a creative writing project, essay, review, or something else? Have you just started something new or are you wrapping up a long term project?

I’m currently working on pressing my husband into FINALLY (I’ve been pressing him since I re-opened the blog) to do craft beer reviews for me to post. He keeps saying he’ll do it and then doesn’t but now he’s mentioning it without me saying anything so I need to take advantage. I wrote up a template for him and now anxiously await him drinking his next beer lol.

Aw that would be such a cool addition! I’m not really a beer fan (unless it’s in bread), but you’ll catch a lot of people who love it.

I actually don’t drink beer at all. But I know SO much about it thanks to my husband and everyone I know being really into craft beer. In Michigan it’s HUGE. Last I checked we had around 444 microbreweries.

I like fruli, because it has that fruity taste, especially strawberry yum. There’s a bar/restaurant around here that sells it, and I believe the Wegman’s supermarket does, too, but it’s kind of pricey. Lambic? I think that’s what it’s called. Now that I’m older, I don’t completely hate the taste of beer, but it’s not my go-to drink. I’m a moscato girl.
Oh I’m sure! PA is pretty big with it, too. We have Yuengling, which I used to like in college, but it tastes like swill to me now. Also it hasn’t been doing so well since the owner admitted to being in support of a certain orange, shit stain, and well, Philadelphia is really opinionated to say the least.

I’ve had raspberry lambic. It is amazing! I can only drink a little bit but it is damn tasty. Good for Philly! We just had Lansing (our capital) declare that they would be a sanctuary city.

He came to Philly and we definitely did what we do best lol. You have to figure this is the town that booed Santa Claus and threw bricks at children *sigh*

Santa is kind of an asshole. I deserve extra presents for being naughty.

I deserve presents for not murdering everyone! I don’t think Santa understands how difficult it is for me NOT to run some people over. I at least deserve some pie for that.

I’m still relatively new to your blog, so this is the first of this type of update posts of yours that I am reading. I really love this idea! As a reader of your blog, it is enjoyable and insightful to get a glimpse into your process, and I imagine that for you as the writer/creator, it may help hold you accountable.
I also really like the quotation! You are very talented!

Aw thank you so much! Doing these updates really helps me stay on track, because I know I have to give a progress report of sorts hehe. And I know as a writer I enjoy hearing about others processes, because it gives me ideas for how I can hone my own. There’s always room to improve!

Yes! I may replicate you on this idea, if you are OK with that!

Please do! I think I picked up the idea for weekly status reports from another blogger and I often incorporate others ideas into my posts 🙂

Time, energy, and concentration… It’s like that Triforce needs to unite for me to get anything done, and Ganon always runs off with one of the pieces. Uh, I’m not sure what I’m rambling about, but I can’t wait to read Chapter 9! I’m more than willing to endure the wait for Chapter 10 too 🙂

Well I need to gather the eight pieces together from all the corners of Hyrule, but I don’t have enough heart containers for that :p
Chapter 9 is going way better than I thought it would! It always becomes trickier when you put more characters in. Granted they’re just side characters, but still, I’m writing out interactions with more people than just them (which is surprisingly easy! It honestly just comes naturally at this point, and they’re quite comfortable with each other ♥), so it’s a little bit different, but still interesting.

More characters are coming eh? I’m intrigued 🙂 But yeah, it gets really complicated when you add more characters. Figuring out how they all interact and feel about each other takes time.

Not major ones, but any time you throw another person into the mix, you have to figure out another dynamic. I AM planning or rather note taking on potential other fics with other characters from the game, but that’s still in the beginning planning phases. So many stories; so little time.
