The Mystery Blogger Award #2

I think it would be in supremely poor taste to complain about the awards I’ve been nominated for, because all you lovely people were kind enough to nominate me!  What I can complain about is my lack of time and seeming rudeness is not getting to them until months later, but that’s really just me berating myself, and really shouldn’t be considered a complaint per se.  Regardless, I’m trying to catch up albeit lately, so here I go!

I was nominated for The Mystery Blogger Award by Pokeninja of the blog Nice Job Breaking It, Hero.  She is pretty much an anime and otome expert, and though I haven’t been in the former’s world (alas for time!) nor have I ever really explored the latter’s (though there are now a few games I’d like to look into), I enjoy her site greatly, especially her Melanin Monday feature, which started during Black History Month, but due to popular demand, she continues on a biweekly basis.  Her blog set up is so neat and organized, and she does wrap up posts every week in case you miss something.  If you’re into anime, otome games, and awesomeness, I suggest you check her out!

The Rules:

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog
  •  List the rules.
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself (I’m skipping this one)
  • You nominate 10 – 20 people (yeah, I’m only doing 7)
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify).
  • Share a link to your best post(s)

What is the Mystery Blogger Award?

*The award was created by Okoto Enigma*

“Mystery Blogger Award”  is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

Pokeninja’s Questions

1. Who is your favorite Power Ranger? (from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers only)

Hm, this is something I’ve never really thought about!  I watched the show when it was first on, and I don’t think I really had a favorite.  I haven’t seen the new movie yet, so I’ll have to put a rain check on this question and get back to you.

2. What’s one item you regret purchasing?

I once commissioned a painting of Aeris and Sephiroth, my favorite ship.  It was the very first time I’d ever commissioned an artist, and I gave very specific details about what I wanted in the picture even providing several images to give them an idea of what I was looking for.  I had to specifically email her looking for updates twice, and when I received the picture, she hadn’t done the major thing I was looking for.  To say I was disappointed would be an understatement, but I didn’t want to be a bitch or be blacklisted from the online artist/commission community, so I paid her and was civil though I did expressed my dissatisfaction.  She said that she would work on correcting the issue, but it’s been over six months, and I haven’t heard anything from her.

I second guess myself though, and wonder if I didn’t make it clear how important that specific thing was, because it was really important.  I wanted to make sure she made their height differential correctly, and she made Aeris way too tall.  Like I have figurines of them, and Sephiroth is at least a foot taller than her, but in the picture, he was two, maybe, three inches taller?  I was uber disappointed, because one of the things I love about them as my OTP is the height differential, and yeah, I know it sounds super petty, but it didn’t fit my mental image of the painting.  It further confirmed my cynical belief that you should never get excited about anything, because I was so excited that I’d found an artist who drew in a style I loved and who was taking commissions.  I could finally get a specific image of my favorite couple.  It’s also spoiled me for taking commissions unless I know I can get a sketch of it first before I spend a single penny.  I paid $150 for a painting I don’t like and haven’t looked at since (it’s just sitting a folder on my computer).  I’m pretty bummed, and I definitely regret it.

3. What’s one show that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it?

I have quite a few go-to shows!  Futurama (which I’m watching right now), American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers.  Yup, they’re all cartoons.  For a non-cartoon Star Trek: TNG.  I love Sir Patrick ♥♥♥

4. Zombies are about to break down your door, you have to defend yourself, the closest item to you is your weapon. What is it and how screwed are you? (the weird question)

Looks like I’m swinging my purse like a champ.  I also have some hand soap.  If those bitches still have eyes, they’re getting foamy soap in them.  I can also call for backup on my iPhone.

5. Who is your favorite megane character?

I’ll admit it: I had to google this term.

Does he count?

He’s technically wearing glasses, but he doesn’t technically need glasses, because he’s perfect; his eyesight is perfect, and he can see in the dark *swoon*  Hrm…trying to think of a bishie who typically wears glasses.  Oh!  Vash from Trigun!

Omg I need to finish watching this anime.  I have no excuse now that Kisscartoon (and it’s backup 9Cartoon) currently exist.  I had a fangirl crush on Vash even though he’s not my normal type (see prior picture), especially when shit got real with him.  There’s something about a typically goofball character turning serious/getting pissed that is so swoonworthy.

My Best Post…

Best post as in how many views?  Best post as in how many shares?  Best post as in the one that stirred up the most comments/discussion?  Per my stats, the post with the most views at 1150 is Cosplay Confessional – Rose Quartz (Steven Universe), which I find really surprising, but my favorite post at 707 views would have to be my Heart of Darkness, Angel of Light – The Defense of Sephiroth.  That essay was a decade in the making, and I poured so much into writing it.  It could possibly be considered a horcrux, since I put a piece of my soul into it.  I didn’t kill anybody though, hm.

My Nominations

I’m going to try to nominate people I haven’t nominated before.  Maybe I should start keeping track of these things…

  1. The Dragon’s Tea Party
  2. Entertain Me!
  3. Orchid’s Lantern
  4. Mosaicca
  5. Falcon Game Reviews
  6. Boba and Games
  7. Forged from Reverie

My Questions

  1. The Doctor shows up in the tardis.  Are you going to the future or the past?  How far would you go in either direction?
  2. Barring black or white, if you had to wear one color for the rest of your life, what color would that be?
  3. Tea or coffee?
  4. Do you prefer urban, rural, or suburban?
  5. What do you think there should be a wiki for that there isn’t already (I guess this is the weird question)?

Thanks again to Pokeninja for nominating me!

    • I’m so pissed Netflix is removing it! I was watching one day around season 5, and suddenly only the first two seasons were left, and now only season 2 is left 😡 I think they’re having some contract issues with Fox, but ugh. That’s my go-to to listen to at work. I’ll just throw on a show with my headphones on. I hope they can work their issues out.

I haven’t seen all of LOST. I’m one of the few people in my friend group who like Seinfeld, which I don’t understand. It’s the dry, deadpan humor, but I guess that’s only for specific tastes. Buffy was how I spent my Tuesday nights in college. Loved that show. I need to watch Twin Peaks. I’ve heard it was really ahead of its time.

Thanks! I feel bad it took me so long to post it.

      • It appears a lot of shows leaving Netflix end up on Hulu, and sometimes they’re better quality. When Seinfeld came to Hulu (which wasn’t on Netflix) it was streamed in HD and widescreen, instead of SD full-screen like the original source. It’s nice. Hulu Plus is great.

Twin Peaks is incredibly, particularly the music. It’s on Netflix and has a new season coming out soon!

        • And of course we got rid of Hulu a while ago because we weren’t using it. Might have to reinstate it. It’s only $8 a month. I wish Amazon Prime was better with shows. There’s still a bunch you have to pay for, but that free, overnight shipping makes it worth it just around the holidays.

          • I pay the extra $3 per month for Hulu Plus, since I’ve been spoiled by add-free Netflix. I agree with Prime. I don’t pay to rent their shows or movies at all, and although I have Prime I rarely find anything worth watching in their streaming section. I buy enough from Amazon to warrant the cost, especially since it’s 50% off as a student, but their streaming options are hot garbage.

            • I might have to get Hulu back especially if there’s an app I can put on my phone so I can listen to/watch it at work. $11 a month isn’t terrible. It’s better than cable, which is really going to have to step its game up if it wants to compete. HBO is at least on board with HBO Go, though we just borrow my in laws’ sign on to watch Game of Thrones. It’s not technically stealing, and I also find it amusing that fifty people can use the same Netflix sign on lol. You’d think they’d curb that, but I guess they make enough money where they just don’t care.

That’s how I feel about Amazon, too. Prime is worth it for the shipping and such benefits, but yeah the streaming services is a streaming pile of poop.

              • I have a Hulu app on my Galaxy tablet, so I’m confident you’ll find one on your phone. Hulu lets you watch significantly more than Netflix before giving you an idle pop-up, which is great, since I often watch TV to fall asleep and don’t want a still image burning my TV screen.

I think Netflix got wise to the sharing game and now limits three devices streaming simultaneously. Hulu allows 2, I think, while WWE Network is just one.

I’d like HBO Go, but I just don’t watch enough of their shows. And yeah, Amazon streaming is poop on a stick.

                • Hm, I might need to look into reinstating Hulu. I’d pay an addition $3 a month for no commercials. Yeah, Netflix gets really judgy after three episodes of the same thing, though it oddly only does that through the PS4. If I watch it on my Kindle, it will just go episode to episode ad infinitum. On my phone I have to click for the next one. I guess they configure it different for different devices. I almost wish I could get a data plan for my Kindle…no, no I don’t, no I don’t lol.

We only use HBO Go for Game of Thrones and we borrow that sign on. No way am I paying for it again.

                  • That’s true, Netflix does act differently depending on the device. On all of my home consoles I get that pop-up around episode 3 or 4, except the Wii U, which doesn’t have an auto-play feature for TV shows (or didn’t the last time I used it). Neither does the Vita, IIRC.

If Hulu has stuff you like, it’s definitely worth the $3 per month since it’s a trivial amount in the long run.

  1. Congrats on your award! Sorry about your horrible commissioning experience. I have so many cool images in my head I wish I could draw… Unfortunately, I have no talent and it’s too hard to explain images to artists. I also love Futurama 🙂

  2. Hooray! Thank you for the nomination, friend! Man, that commissioned painting situation is a bummer. I think you handled it nobly and gracefully by still paying for it and not pestering them for the fix that they said they would do. I guess it wouldn’t bother me quite as much if they hadn’t offered to fix it, but the fact that they offered to do that and then never got back with you is unprofessional. My husband and I actually had that exact same thing happen to us with our first set of engagement photos. (Well, not *exactly* the same, but you know what I mean). We chose the photographer based on how much we loved their online portfolio, and when we got our images back we were gutted. The photographer had applied all these crazy filters that literally made us look like vampires. Super weird. We politely complained (after paying, of course), and the photographer apologized and told us she would re-edit them to make us look less like walking corpses. Well, lo and behold, we never heard from her again. Womp womp. After that, I was SUPER nervous picking a new photographer!

Also, I had to Google megane too.

    • Definitely! I tried to nominate bloggers I recently followed to spread the love 🙂 I really want to find time to work on the award I thought of myself, but there’s never enough hours in the day.

Yeah, it was such a bummer situation, but I couldn’t not pay her for her work, you know? It wasn’t what I asked for, BUT it was still a beautiful picture, and like I said, it could’ve been that I didn’t make it very clear how important that aspect was to me. I’m not going to commission her again unless she miraculously gets back to me with the fixes, but I highly doubt that.

Your wedding photo debacle sounds very similar! You expect to receive a particular service to your specifications. Scratch that, you’re PAYING to receive a service to your specifications, and the person doesn’t deliver. Then she didn’t even get back to you after promising she would. As a writing who wants to be an author, I appreciate how hard creators/artists work for their content, don’t get me wrong, but you should deliver on what you promise. It’s not good for business not to. Even if you’re paid for less than stellar work, word of mouth is one of the best advertisers out there.

  3. Omg, Bob’s Burgers ALL day, EVERY day. I love that show! ❤
That's so sad about the art you commissioned! That's terrible that you paid good money for a piece you aren't happy with. 😦 Sorry that that happened to you.
And yay Trigun! I really liked that series too! 😀

    • I’m so glad I’m finding more people who love that show! Initially, I wasn’t sure about it, because its humor is SO different from The Simpsons and Family Guy, which it was wedged in the middle of. It was such a deviation that I was thrown for a loop, but then when I just sat down and watched it on its own, it was hilarious. The humor is very dry and witty, and it has other really good qualities, too. I think Gene is my favorite character with Louise as a close second, and I love how Tina is portrayed as not a stereotypical 13 year old girl. I really hope Netflix can fix its contract issues with Fox, because I can listen to Bob’s Burgers all day every day at work.

*sigh* Yeah, I’m still salty about that art commission. I found another artist recently who did more chibi like figures, but she’d provide you with a sketch before finishing up any transactions. I’d be more apt to try something like that just so I don’t get burned again.

      Liked by 1 person

      • Yeah, that’s a good idea on the artist’s part to show a rough sketch version first to make sure everyone is on the same wavelength as far as how it should look.
Yesss, Gene is hilarious. It’s so hard in that show for me to pick a single favorite because they’re all so funny and their different personalities bounce off each other so well. Tina is definitely up there though for me. Cupcakes and Machetes and I have joked around about cosplaying as Tina and Louise before (I’d be Tina and she’d be Louise). 😛 We really should do it some time. Neither of us have ever actually cosplayed before, but it looks so fun. A lot of work, but a lot of fun. 😀

        • I’m going to write a Character Analysis of him at some point. I hate how it’s so hard to keep up with projects and how I keep thinking up new projects :p

Omg you guys should totally do that. Cosplay is so much fun, but it can definitely be challenging AND expensive. I don’t think those two will be that bad since they wear regular clothes and aren’t like outlandish superhero or video game characters in ridiculous outfits. CaM just sent me a Louise gif, too lol. She’s laughing maniacally in front of flames. It’s the Earsy Rider episode where Logan snatches her bunny ears. I have a weird theory about why she wears them lol. Anyway, if you guys ever do that, pleeeeease provide pictures!

          Liked by 1 person

          • Haha, we’ll totally share the photos if we ever do that. 😛
I love the character analysis idea, and I know what you mean about getting all the ideas for different projects. It’s like the exact opposite of writer’s block but sometimes just as hard to work with. lol

            Liked by 1 person

    • Certainly! I want to nominate bloggers I just recently followed who had an impact on me 🙂 I bug the people I’ve known for longer all the time so now it’s everyone else’s turn :p

*sigh* I know. I didn’t want to be an ass though, you know? Once bit, twice shy now.

  6. I have to say that I am beyond late with this comment, but girl, I LOVED your answers!!! You were definitely deserving of the nomination, you and your blog are top notch!!

Do you have a favorite Power Ranger yet?

I’ve never done commission stuff, but I have heard the horror stories and I know what it’s like to ask for something and not get exactly what you want so I feel you there… and OTPs are special, you just don’t mess with em!

LOL the Zombie answer was perfection!! Swing that purse!!

    Awesome job!! XD

    • Thank you! Nooooo not yet lol. I still haven’t seen the movie. I am so behind with films. Like they’re the one media that I’ve almost given up on keeping current with. I barely watch new TV shows, but at least I have a list of them.

I know drawing is not easy; it takes a lot of time; and its not always possible to get every specific thing, but I just wanted him to be really tall compared to her! And many artists will send you a sketch before they really get into the nitty-gritty. I found this one who does chibis who told me that’s how they operate. I’ve been thinking about commissioning her, because they’re super cute, but it’s not my dream paiting.

My purse is this huge Betsy Johnson affair. Those undead are going down!
