Day 2: Your favorite character.
This one is as easy as the first question was difficult.
This entire blog is pretty much devoted to why I love him , so I won’t bore you with repeats; I’ll just direct your attention here, here, here, here, and here if you’d like more details on the depths of my adoration.
Seph is not only my favorite video game character, he’s my favorite fictional character of all time.
Who’s your favorite character and why do they deserve your love? Tell me in the comments!
I would say my all time favorite character is Yoshi! I loveeeee Yoshi so much and reminiscing about playing Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc is the best! If I had to pick a more current character maybe I would go with Baird from Gears of War or Cole Train! Soooo many options I can’t really just choose 1 lol. Oh Yeah, the Arbitor from Halo was my dawgggggg! Have a great Friday!

You love so many characters! Yoshi is a cutey. I always felt so bad ditching him in a, well, ditch to save my own hide. I think my favorite SMW Yoshi was the blue (flying) one.
Soldier characters are always fun. I’ve seen some of the Halo cartoons and gameplay, but haven’t played it myself. It’s a fascinating story though!

As of late, Geralt of Rivia. I love how his character is portrayed through grey areas of morals he’s constantly dealing with

The Witcher! I actually have the *book* on my TBR list. Maybe I should throw the game on my watchlist.

Vivi from FFIX. He is the total embodiment of many of my own feelings and curiosities about life, and he’s also adorable.

I know how much you love him! I love that he’s not only adorable, but also a complex and heartbreaking character. He’s so innocent and he just wants to do the right thing for his people and the world. The scene after he finds out that the Black Mages’ time is limited and he tells them is such a tearjerker. Zidane asks him something along the lines of “What are you going to do now?” and Vivi responds with, “I guess I’m just going to go sit with them.” It’s the “There’s nothing I can do about this except try to commiserate because we’re all in the same boat.” Then the whole “puppets using puppets” thing is like inception worthy, because that’s what Kuja was doing! Ugh, I need to continue my Final Fantasy (re)play so I can get to IX and review it lol.

Get on that! I totally want to read that 😀

I always fall back on Link because the Zelda series is very near and dear to me, but I don’t think he has many endearing qualities lol. Same with Samus. I love Metroid, but Samus isn’t necessarily the beacon of depth and storytelling. They’re both my favorites, as in I’d buy toys, amiibo, and other things to display the minute I see them.

I think Link exemplified the hero, and he was kind of a blank slate or a…link, shall I say, to the player. He was definitely an avatar (if I can use Athena’s term), but later iterations definitely showed him with personality and emotion. I love the end of Twilight Princess when he sees Midna’s true form. My jaw was as low on the floor as his (Midna=best princess #sorrynotsorry), and Samus? Samus kicked ass. She took on alien pirates eldritch abominations. So even though they didn’t have clear cut personalities, I don’t think they were entirely devoid. I could see Samus being like Ripley from the Alien franchise, and I think I read somewhere that Sigourney Weaver’s character inspired her.

I’m not even shocked at this :-p. I don’t think I could pick a single character, but Alex from Oxenfree really resonated with me for some reason. She felt very believable as a character.

Wait you’re NOT surprised?? I thought this was a gigantic secret!! :p
That’s impressive to have a believable character in a game described as supernatural 80s horror flick (I googled)! Someone needs to break up the tropes in movies like that.

She comes across as a snarky, slightly disaffected teen due to events in her past. She’s not unpleasant and seems very natural when speaking. I really liked that.

Tidus from Final Fantasy X.
Nahhh just kiddin’! This is a tough question, I mean, most characters that I admired the most practically had _no_ character. Most of them were silent, in fact.
I’ll answer twice. My favorite silent protagonist is Gordon Freeman, your every day theoretical physicist just starting a day at work when BAM, you gotta fight aliens.
My favorite character with a voice would easily go to Riki from Xenoblade Chronicles. The whole Nopon culture was ridiculous and awesome and such a fun little diversion in that game.

Let’s have a moment of silence for Link, Serge, Samus, and Mario (for a long while). Oh wait…they’re already doing that :p
Alright I googled Gordon Freeman. Haven’t played Half Life, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it! For some reason I always mix up Dead Space with Half Life and I have absolutely no idea why. The games aren’t similar (as far as I know). I think it’s because the cadence of their names sounds alike? I don’t know. I’m weird.
Xenoblade Chronicles is on my backlog!

My favorite character is Shepard from the Mass Effect Trilogy. Mario, and Link are really high on my list too.

You cannot go wrong with Shepherd. Are you a male Shep or a fem Shep fan? I love fem Shep’s voice actor better than male Shep’s. I know when I play Mass Effect myself I’ll be more paragon like with maybe a few renegade decisions, but regardless Shepherd is a bad ass.

I’m always Male Shep. The best way to play is renegade in my opinion. I love renegade Shep and the best dialogue is always when Shepard is a giant ass to everyone :). I played through with fem Shep once or twice to see the difference in the voice actors, but I usually play a male in every game that gives me a choice to.

Hehe I can’t be an ass to people in games. It’s one of the reasons I can’t really play games like Grand Theft Auto. I always make decisions based on what I’d do in real life, but I understand the release there is in just doing whatever the hell you want.

I make my decisions on what I would do in real life too… and I’m an ass in real life so… I like to think of myself as being blunt/honest, but I can totally see myself as an asshole :). Only GTA game I ever liked was San Andreas. I don’t see the appeal to the series, but I know many people like it.

My current love is of course, Aloy from Horizon. She’s a tough, sassy bitch.

No way!! You like Sephiroth??? I had NO idea… 🙂 I think you’ve seen more than enough of my ramblings about my favourite character, haha.

It’s such a shock to EVERYONE. They usually think I’m a Cloud fanatic, and are super surprised when I tell them my heart belongs to the Great General (and one day he’s going to show up and take it…literally). Wait don’t you like that fem-Cloud wannabe? Teasing, teasing!! Don’t take me seriously AT ALL.

Picking one is quite a difficult task and my answer would probably change depending upon the mood I’m in. Most days though, I’d probably go with Dr. Nefarious from Ratchet & Clank.

Nice choice. He isn’t my fave FF villain, but he probably has the best boss music of all time in One Winged Angel.

He does have the best boss music! Who is your favorite FF villain? Are you a Kefka fan :p

Knew you would choose Sephiroth! 😉 Mine is Link, but not just because he’s the main character of my favorite game series. I like the idea of a hero that transcends time and gets reborn into different, but similar personas. I also love green, so Link just has so many positives.

I like how he’s literally the “link” between the player and the game. Like Athena has talked about the “avatar” character, and Link is the perfect example of that. He encompasses all of the traits of a hero, and the player gets live heroically through him.

Yes, he is definitely the “link” between player and game, which is such a cool concept. I love everything about Link, what he stands for, and what he’s done in his games. So silent and cool, haha.
