What’s this?
More Christmas posting? Well, I wanted to get this in before the big day on Monday (seriously, I have a friend recording her children’s reaction Christmas Morning. I’ve got an in on a Nintendo Switch opening. Can. Not. Wait), and sharing and spreading holiday cheer is one of the many jobs of my alter ego, The Christmas Goth.
Snagged from Ignited Moth, I figured this would be a fun little exercise alongside Creative Christmas hosted by Later Levels 🙂
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
Would you believe me if I said it’s been so many years since I’ve seen The Nightmare Before Christmas that I don’t really remember it that much? I really need to remedy that.
It’s not a film per se, but my absolute favorite Christmas special is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
I like at the end how his eyes change from yellow with red irises/pupils to “regular” with blue irises, because he’s no longer TEH EVULZ!
I also like the message that’s not entirely religious, but is a bit subtly religious, but only if you’d like to interpret it that way (if that makes any sense). Christmas isn’t about the tangible, the things, it’s not something that can be stolen, rendering the title more philosophical and making the story itself demonstrative of such rhetoric.
Finally, I adore the sort of nonsense word song the Whos sing at the open and the close. I’m a fan of bookend stories 😉
Shout out to the Rankin Bass stop motion animations with my favorite being The Year Without a Santa Claus, because Snow Miser and Heat Miser are awesome.
You’re welcome.
2. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
The pine needles are scratching my leg right now. I grew up with fake trees, but I always wanted a real one, so when I had my own place and more disposable income, that’s exactly what I did.
While this may seem ironic, real trees are actually better for the environment than fake ones. This is because the tree is specifically grown for the purpose of being used for Christmas so it’s not like you’re cutting down a tree to stick in your living room. It actually should be a zero sum transaction in terms of environmental impact, and since you’re usually buying the tree from someone local, you’re helping out a small business! While you obviously will use a fake tree for quite a few years, eventually you’ll throw it out and its materials aren’t biodegradable
Let’s have another song! This is my favorite version of “O Tannenbaum.”
3. What is your favorite Christmas song?
I’ve gone through several over the years. It used to be “Carol of the Bells” then “We Three Kings” (I like songs in the minor key), but now…it’s less of a favorite song and more of a favorite rendition of a song, though the song itself isn’t my favorite; in fact I didn’t like it until Pentatonix did it.
4. What’s your favorite Christmas scent?
Baking cookies. That brings back the memories.
5. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
We used to go over to my great aunt’s for Christmas Eve most years when I was a child to spend time with my (maternal) extended family, which is freaking huge (my grandmother had eight siblings), and then when we got home, we’d be allowed to open up one present Christmas Eve.
6. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I feel like this question would be answered in the prior every time lol. This year I’ll actually be opening the majority of my presents on Christmas Eve since we’re doing holiday stuff on that day with my husband’s family, and my aunts have revived the Christmas Eve tradition along with present exchange. It’s going to be a busy night, and I’m glad I don’t have to do anything Christmas morning.
7. What tops your Christmas tree?
An angel of course! I’m very picky about my angels (I detest those Precious Moments monstrosities *shudders*), so it took some doing to find an acceptable tree topper for The Christmas Goth.
8. What is the best thing about Christmas for you?
The memories, yo. I’m pretty mired in nostalgia for Christmas time and am close friends with the Ghost of Christmas Past. I do love giving presents and seeing peoples’ reactions, so I can still get down with the Ghost of Christmas Present (ha! I didn’t even realize the pun until proofread!). Finally, I love the kids around Christmas time. I feed off of their excitement like some kind of Christmas vampire who doesn’t take anything away. I guess my Ghost of Christmas Future is being able to fabricate my own Christmas Morning miracle one day.
9. What is your favorite festive food or treat?
I only make my chocolate chip cookies once a year, because they’re so damn decadent. There’s also those Royal Dansk cookies that come in the blue tin.
I think these only appear around Christmas time, and they are so damn good.
10. What is on top of your Christmas list this year?
Only for some. Everyone who’s been good gets exactly what they want. Oh, this is about what I want. Can I bring doom to the wicked? I’ll take over the Angel of Death’s job for one day. Should be entertaining.
In the absence of godlike powers I suppose my own PS4 or a new iPhone would suffice.
If you decide to do this (sorry for the lateness), please let me know/tag me! I love reading the various answers. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and all of that stuff!
Is it a goth Angel on top of the tree? That would be amazing!

I wish! I might need to upgrade to that one year. I have this pipe dream of doing a fandom Christmas tree at some point where it’s all fandom stuff on it. Right now I DO have a BB-8 ornament, but that’s really the only geeky thing I can claim.

Yay! Glad you got in on this festive/fun Christmas tag! 😀
I love the Heat Miser and Snow Miser, too! ❤ The Year Without a Santa Clause is such a good one. I can't believe I forgot to put it with my top Christmas movies, too!
I remember my grandma always having those cookies in the blue tin when I was younger. They almost never had cookies in them, though, but had stuff like sewing supplies and crayons for me when I came over. 😛
Have a very merry Christmas! I hope it's a great one! ❤

I figured I’d get it done last night since I didn’t have to get up early this morning thank goodness! I was so exhausted from wrapping, but I wanted to post that before the big day.
There’s this meme about just that lol! When you’re expecting cookies, but it’s always filled with sewing supplies. It IS a good way to recycle that container though.

The older I get, the more I can relate to the Grinch, haha. Have a Merry Christmas with your family! 🙂

I loved a good redemption story even at a young age 🙂 And it wasn’t like he hated Christmas itself; he hated the commercialism, which I can totally understand….even as I spend all of the money on Amazon o.O

Well goddamnit. I do NOT want another real tree next year but I’ll be damned if you don’t make some good goddamn points. >:I
(I’m not really mad but I’m so tired of needles and their poking when I water it and the resulting itching for an hour afterword. AND I’m always trying to be more environmentally conscience so, damn you for making valid points.) 😉

Wellll, yes, my, er, points are good hehe, but I have a friend who is adamantly against them after Spider-Gate happened to him one year. We’re talking hundreds of those tiny fuckers. I have cats so they’d have a Christmas treat, but I can understand the reluctance after something like that occurs. It’s one of those thing when you want to be environmentally conscious, but you don’t want to wind up in arachnophobia.

Lmao. I hadn’t even thought of that. My husband would flip his shit.
