What’s your favorite overworld music?
I’ll answer this question in two parts. First, my favorite music directly from the game as in unaltered from what you hear while you’re playing, and second, my favorite overworld theme orchestrated.
I have to go with Final Fantasy IV for my favorite theme in game.
FFIV was just ahead of its time and so proficient in numerous areas, not the least of which was music. It boasts the greatest number of good songs in its soundtrack (based on my opinion of course) that is to say, I like the majority of songs on its OST. While I might like the music from other games more, I like more of the music from Final Fantasy IV.
And Final Fantasy X takes the gold for my favorite orchestrated theme. It more than occasionally brings the tears, so I have to declare it the winner.
What’s your favorite overworld theme? As you can see mine doesn’t align with my favorite game (it actually took a bit for FFVII’s “Main Theme” to grow on me. I like it now, but wasn’t that fond of it when I first heard it). Does yours? Discussion party in the comments!

I think mine might be FF9’s, because I’m a sap and love Melodies of Life, ha . . . FF10’s is sooo good though!

I love that FFIX and X really seemed to solidify the musical theme. It was sort of there in VII and VIII, but many of the songs in IX and X are variants of a main theme. I really like that. It’s similar to what they do in movies.

I don’t really have a favourite but every now and then I’ll get some FF music stuck in my head. Usually from VII and IX. Particularly the boss battle music or overworld themes.

The music is so ear worm worthy, because it has such a strong melody line! I love IX’s regular battle music. Hm, I don’t recall if I’ve done a question like that yet *ponders*

To Zanarkand is one of the best songs Final Fantasy has produced. But, given that FFX doesn’t really have an overworld, Final Fantasy VI gets the nod. Terra’s theme, which was also the one that played over the World of Balance’s overworld, hits all the right notes for me.

I think it has a song called “Sprouting,” but that’s just another version of “To Zanarkand.” I love FFVI’s overworld theme, too.

Historia Crux theme from FFXIII-2… the only one in the XIII trilogy that really has an overworld type area, haha. It is really cool though. Gives me that epic time paradox feeling 🙂
