weekly post updated every other Wednesday detailing my current reading projects and what new titles I’ve added to my to-read list.  Title links go to Goodreads, and if you have an account there feel free to friend me!  I’d love to see what you’re reading and/or planning to read.

This was delightful even if it was a little predictable.  The ending is extremely satisfactory and the dry, witty humor helps curb some of the cliches.  I will definitely be continuing this series.

Do I even have to say this is good?  Of course it’s excellent; it’s Legend of Zelda!  I probably mentioned this when I was reading the first one, but I’m happy the authors gave Link a voice.  While I have read novels where the main character(s) doesn’t speak (e.g. The Vagrant), I don’t think that would be appropriate for this even though Link is presumed voiceless in the games.  Since he interacts with people, it’s more that you don’t hear his voice as opposed to him not having one.

Title: Fool Moon
Series Title: The Dresden Files
Author: Jim Butcher
Date Added: January 17, 2013
Date Started: May 26, 2018

Fool Moon coverMedia: Paperback
Progress: 37%

Harry’s a fucking idiot.  I read and enjoyed the first book, and I’m garnering some enjoyment out of this one from the plot, but Dresden annoys the hell out of me.  His White Knight complex gets in the way of common sense, and while I know a lot of readers find that endearing (and a main reason they read the books), I find it irritating and sexist.  His cop fried Murphy asked him to do one thing: not keep any secrets from her on the investigation he’s consulting her on.  What the fuck does he do?  That.  There’s other regrettable shit he does, and while I’m able to continue reading, it makes me have less and less sympathy for Harry’s sorrows, because he often brings them on himself.

Title: The King of Elfland’s Daughter
Author: Lord Dunsany
Date Added: June 16, 2016
Date Started: May 16, 2018

The King of Elfland's Daughter coverMedia: eBook/Kindle
Progress: 64%

If Soulless is endowed with dry humor, this book is just dry.  It’s an interesting story, but it can be difficult absorbing all of Lord Dunsany’s overly long phrases and descriptions.  Elfland is consistently described as “the fields we don’t know” or someone alteration of, while earth is presented as “the fields we know” or an iteration of.  The palace of the Elf King is ascribed the description of “that place we know of only by song” or something of the like.  I’m curious how it’s going to end since it has a fairy tale flow, and since it predates Disney’s hostile takeover of the fore mentioned, it’s worth the read for posterity’s sake, but I wouldn’t recommend it to the casual reader.

Title: Dune
Series Title: Dune Chronicles
Author: Frank Herbert
Date Added: September 4, 2013
Date Started: March 6, 2018

The cover of Dune by Frank HerbertMedia: Paperback
Progress: 55%

I wish I could read this faster.  It’s so interesting and involved.  Once I’m done then I can watch all of the theory videos I’ve saved so I can find out what integral subtexts I’ve missed :p

I’m current two books behind, which makes sense.  It’s June so I should be at or close to the halfway mark, but I’m six books from that.  I’m hoping I can tear through some graphic novels to pad my count.

Anyway, look at kitties!

My apartment is even messier right now, because that couch you see in the background is gone.  We were supposed to have received its replacement last weekend, but it was damaged while they were moving it, so it was sent back.  This hasn’t stopped the phone calls I’ve received from the delivery company asking when they can drop it of even after I spoke to someone there and they confirmed the order had been cancelled 😡  I’m not sure where the miscommunication is happening, but since I received yet another message today about it, I hope they figure this shit out soon.  If I talked to someone there, they should have a note on it.  I mean I’ve already received notice that my money is being returned, so if I get a free couch I’m not going to complain.

Read any good books lately?

  2. I would definitely agree with you on the Dresden Files. I absolutely adored the first book and then the next two I was less satisfied with. All for the points you just mentioned. I’ve been told that the series doesn’t really become solid and take off until around book 5. But I don’t know if that means that Harry turns his flaws around.
Cute kitties! I follow a couple cat related things on IG and they bring much happiness. 🙂

    • Okay, I’m glad it gets better. Fool Moon isn’t *terrible* It’s just annoying shit with an interesting story. It’s like the opposite problem I had with Mercy lol. I can imagine her in Harry’s situation in this book definitely since it’s about werewolves/shapeshifters :p

  3. Awwww, love the kitty pictures! ^_^ Especially the second one. Soooo cute! ❤
I'm really glad you enjoyed the first Soulless book, too. 🙂 I'm looking forward to continuing the series at some point as well. I found a used copy of the second book while visiting a used book store in Cupcakes and Machetes' town, so I've got it on hand. There's just so many other things to read and never enough dang time. lol
