The State of the Writer: 5/5/19

<–The State of the Writer: 4/21/18         The State of the Writer: 5/19/19–>

A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

Finished Projects: 2

Project: Story
Title:
The Broken Rose
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction (FFVII) Novel
Current Word Count: 254,083
Prior Word Count: 254,376
Word Difference: -293
Status: Editing
Progress: First edit of Chapter 16

It’s slow going but it’s going.  I’ve been doing small editing sessions of a paragraph or two when I can snatch a few moments.  This chapter has presented some difficulties, possibly because it and the following two kind of flowed together, so I might do a three chapter update next time.  My notes are all mixed up between them, so that might be the best way to ensure everything is in its right place.  I’ll consider that more as I continue editing though.

Project: Story Audio Recording
Title:
Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction (FFVII) Novel
Status: Recording
Progress: Editing Chapter 1 – Part 1

I’m finally editing this and it’s going pretty well.  I’m glad past me was savvy enough to re-record lines that didn’t sound clear the first time, so current and future me can decide what sounds best.  I only got through two and a half minutes of a half hour, but it’s a start.

In Progress

  • Game Review: The First Tree – I’m going to separate this one into two parts: Review and Analysis.  The first part will be spoiler free and discuss gameplay/mechanics and story overview whereas the second part will go into depth with what it all might mean.  I’m still on the first part.

Birthday month is over but I still have cake; it’s also still Taurus season so bow down minions!

Technically the top left is not from my birthday but Taurus horns, yo.

I’m super hyped because Amazon just dropped off my PS3 DDR pad.  I have one but it’s for the PS2, which isn’t compatible with the PS3.  The issue with playing on the PS2 is the delay with more modern TVs (flat screens as opposed to, uh, older models?  Wtf are those called?  You know the ones with the fat backs?  It’s not cathode ray is it?  That’s too old.  Eh, you all know what I’m talking about…).  I figured if I played the games on the newer systems, I wouldn’t have that issue.  I have a DDR game on Wii but only one whereas I have like ten for PlayStation, and the other Wii DDR is still like $50.  WTF Nintendo?  They NEVER lower their prices *huff*  Anyway, I was dancing and kind of boxing yesterday so my arms have that sweet burn to them.  I still need to demo this boxing game on the Switch.  Not sure why I’m talking about this here, but I was also hyped last week to see Avengers: Endgame, which I loved.  It’s funny…I initially loved Endgame then recognized its foibles upon marinating and hearing more opinions, but I still love it, as opposed to initially loving the spectacle of Game of Thrones “The Long Night,” but then realizing how bat shit insane it was upon speculation and critique, though to be fair I said as such to my husband about certain things afterward.  Also…I think I really need to do a State of the Watcher post.  Maybe Saturdays?  If I do that I’ll move my Let’s Play Watching there.  Hm…

Have any of you seen Endgame?  What did you think?  Was it a satisfying end for you?  What critiques do you have?

  2. Aw, I like the crowns/horns! ^_^ I did see Endgame and I enjoyed it for the most part . . . am still not a fan of the disparity between female character send-offs vs. male character send-offs, but maybe they can make up for it later, I dunno. Was also a bit uncomfortable with some of Thor’s stuff, though I’m sure many would say I’m overly sensitive. Still, it was entertaining overall and the heroes’ win was satisfying.

    • Yeaaaaah there were some…issues with that. Even though I expected it, I wasn’t overly happy with the Nat/Clint situation, especially considering what Clint did prior. I’d heard critiques before about the Thor situation, and it’s definitely an issue. Fat suits are a big problem in Hollywood for a variety of reasons. I think Endgame was a *little* more nuanced in showing that Thor was still as much of a warrior and worthy even though he didn’t’ have a stereotypical god bod, but the jokes and cheap shots at his expense aka “eat a salad” made me inwardly groan. It reinforces the idea that weight is under our control and we really need media, ESPECIALLY popular media to start dispelling this.

  3. Those Taurus horns and black roses are BAD.ASS. 😀 ❤ Awesome b-day pictures! I hope you had an amazing birthday (month)!
I really enjoyed Endgame. 🙂 It definitely stirred some emotions. Like the last bit of the movie my eyes kept streaming tears even though I wasn't crying like I normally would over something sad if that makes any sense. lol It was a weird reaction.

    • Facebook got me on those lol. I was scrolling one day, minding my business, and then BAM those fuckers were right there, taunting me, begging me to buy them. I’m weak when it comes to Taurus aesthetic (and anything shiny), but they were only like $20 I think? Totally worth it.

Ahhh yes, I’ve been there before. It’s almost like you’re so overwhelmed with the grandeur, the spectacle, and everything that the emotion just leaks out of your face.
