The State of the Gamer: 8/13/19

A weekly post updated every other Tuesday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I’m Playing

Title: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
Series Title: Etrian Odyssey
System: Nintendo 3DS

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium GirlDate Started: 6/30/19

Nothing to really update.  I haven’t played this in the past two weeks.  I may pick it up a bit tonight, and I’ll probably really get into it during my two week vacay.  I need to look up what to do with the grimoire stones.  There’s an option to combine them, but I don’t want to do anything until I know what the hell I’m doing.

Title: Final Fantasy VI
Series Title: Final Fantasy
System: PlayStation 3 (Port)

Final Fantasy VI coverDate Started: 6/2/18

Mr. TSN may have fixed the TV’s volume issue.  Oddly enough there’s currently a random TV sitting at the bottom of the back stairs.  It’s one of the fat back ones, which is actually a lot better for playing rhythm games, but I don’t have the ability to lug it up here, and hubs doesn’t seem too interested in doing so.  I have an additional goal of finishing this during my two week vacation, because Final Fantasies VII through X-2 are available on the Switch as well as XII, meaning it will be so much easier to play them.  I have no clue what I’m going to do with XI.  Maybe I’ll see if someone is LPing it.  I have XIII but I’d love to see all of those ported to the Switch just for ease of access.

I’m actually hoping to finish this during my two weeks.

What I Played

  • Pic-a-Pix Deluxe – This is legit my ride or die game.  It’s helped me just zone out from thinking more times than I can count, and I’ve really needed that lately.

What I’m Watching

Title: Breath of the Wild
Series Title: The Legend of Zelda
Let’s Player: Olizandri

Maybe because I’m watching this and not playing it, but this is up there with my favorite Zelda games.   I feel like it encapsulates the world and races of Hyrule in a way the other games before didn’t quite.  It feels like there are more alive because there are so many characters and stories.  Not that prior Zeldas didn’t have side quests, but the sheer size of BOTW’s world lends itself to this whole new reality.  It’s the first Zelda game that made me want to write and actively seek out Zelda fanfiction.  I also just met Urbosa and I have a mighty crush lol.

LOOK AT THIS FUCKING QUEEN

I really like that the Gerudo are no longer the thieving, marauding  dark-skinned desert dwellers of the past.  That…was kind of yikes, so Nintendo is moving in the right direction with this better portrayal of them.  I have some interesting thoughts about how voe (males) aren’t allowed in Gerudo City, but I need to marinate on that more before I do anything else with it.

I’m hoping to catch up on my gaming during my vacation, and I definitely want to at least do a test stream.  I’m hoping my laptop is powerful enough to do so.  I have enough space, but it’s not a gaming laptop.  I’ve also seen other streaming set ups, and yeah, I don’t have anything like that right now.  I guess we’ll see.

What’s your go to “zone out” game?  The one you play when you just need a distraction from life?

  3. I have a few games that I can “zone out” to, but I really love to play Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on my phone! I’m not ever tempted to spend real money in the game, so I just enjoy it for what it is… I guess any Animal Crossing game would fit the mold, really. Besides that, Tomodachi Life on the 3DS has been a good one for me lately. I made look-alikes based off of members of my family, and it’s hilarious to see what kind of ridiculous scenarios they get into! Definitely a stress reliever.
