A biweekly post updated every other Wednesday detailing my current reading projects and what new titles I’ve added to my to-read list. Title links go to Goodreads, and if you have an account there feel free to friend me! I’d love to see what you’re reading and/or planning to read.
Books Obtained: 1
Books Finished: 1
Title: Tigana
Author: Guy Gavriel Kay
Date Added: February 9, 2016
Date Started: December 8, 2018
Date Finished: September 7, 2019
This was the best book I’ve read this year. The very last line leaves you in speculation even as Kay so nicely and poignantly wraps everything up. This will be an elaborate review when I get to it, but I highly, highly recommend.
Currently Reading
Title: Faust
Author: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Date Added: August 24, 2014
Date Started: September 1, 2019
Media: eBook/Kindle
Progress: 15%
Is this a fanfiction of the Book of Job, because it seems like the devil wants to torment Faust in a similar way, and God is like, “Eh, why not?”
Title: Traitor’s Blades
Series Title: Greatcoats
Author: Sebastien de Castell
Date Added: March 5, 2017
Date Started: August 26, 2019
Media: eBook/Kindle
Progress: 47%
I did not even realize I was almost halfway through this. I read about two chapters per day. I find it funny that things that bothered me in The Lies of Locke Lamora come off perfectly fine when Falcio says them. I’m hoping I can figure out what the difference is by the time I review, but I’ve already recommended this to my Evil Wizard friend (Editor’s Note: Huh.) Omg what are you doing here???
Title: Kushiel’s Dart
Series Title: Phèdre’s Trilogy
Author: Jacqueline Carey
Date Added: February 21, 2012
Date Started: August 23, 2019
Media: Hardback (Library)
Progress: 12%
I’m making progress on this. I had to renew it at the library since it’s due this Friday, and I’m clearly nowhere near finished. If I could read fifty pages a day, I’d be done in 20, but I think I’ll have to make due with two chapters or so (they’re short).
Title: The Hero With a Thousand Faces
Author: Joseph Campbell
Date Added: April 24, 2014
Date Started: December 3, 2018
I’ve been slacking on this book. Haven’t made any progress, but I’m hoping to jump back in on Friday when I have it scheduled to read.
I have six more books to finish to succeed in my goal of 20 before the end of the year. Will I make it? Probably :p

I’ve met my goal for the year but now I’m on a UF kick so I’ll probably churn out a few pretty quickly here. The advantage of books that are barely 300 pages BUT my goal was to read more door stoppers this year and I’ve neglected that. :3

I think Kushiel’s Dart is the first door stopper I’ve read this year. Well i did just finish Tigana, which was around 700 pages. I need to ramp up my reading of Kushiel because it’s a library book, and I only have so much time, though I *may* buy another copy or find the one I may still have lying around.

You’re making me want to read Kushiel’s Dart again. I think my next read is going to be a re-read of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, though; want to get that pretty writing in my head while I’m gearing up to try my own hand at writing again. (My prose does not come near to hers ha, but it’s inspiring!).
Oh, also, found out this week I passed the bar! So that hurtle is behind me, thank goodness. 🙂

I’m so into it right now. The beginning’s political intrigue is so delicious and satisfying. It was definitely not the beginning that bored me. I’m hoping I can get through it this time.
I need to read more Laini Taylor. Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares are amazing books. I have Smoke and Bone on my list, too, and I definitely do that, too! Reading eloquent prose always inspires me even though I can’t match up to the best.
Ahh congratulations! That must be such a relief. You should definitely feel proud. Not everyone passes the bar the first or even the third time ♥ 🙂

Interesting about the Faust book. I’d like to pick it up and read a bit since I’ve read Job multiple times from multiple bible versions.

You’d probably know better than me! It’s the beginning of it that puts me in the mind of it. I do have the Bible on my list of books to read or research/reference. Need to do that sooner rather than later.

It’s the best book I’ve read this year with Traitor’s Blades a close second.
