The State of the Gamer: 10/10/19

A weekly post updated every other Thursday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I’m Playing

Title: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
Series Title: Etrian Odyssey
System: Nintendo 3DS

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium GirlDate Started: 6/30/19

So I kind of finished this!  I beat the final boss, which was actually easier than some of the optional bosses, but there’s still more game to go.  There’s a final floor of the labyrinth to complete, and I could challenge the final boss again once I reach the bottom in a harder battle.  I’m not sure if I’m going to do that.  I might just finish up mapping the labyrinth and doing all of the quests before I call it a game.  I’m currently trying to beat this lightning dragon, but I’m just not taking off enough HP per turn and eventually I run out of TP (the game’s magic point system), and none of the restoratives restore enough.  Like I said, this game is much harder than my Final Fantasy fare, but I like the problem solving opportunities it presents.  I wound up switching my main character back to a Highlander after watching a bit of a video on that fore mentioned dragon, since they were using techniques only a Highlander has and KILLING it, so I need to level my guy up again, possibly rest my Protector so I can put skill points into Volt Wall, and then see what Grimoire Stones I can mess around with.

Title: Final Fantasy VI
Series Title: Final Fantasy
System: PlayStation 3 (Port)

Final Fantasy VI coverDate Started: 6/2/18

…I have to be honest with you guys.  I love this game like I seriously love it, but I’m right at the part with the Floating Continent, and I just don’t feel like playing anymore.  After that is of course the World of Ruin, and I’m just…idk, I just don’t feel like doing it.  I could still review it of course in an essay like fashion, talk about the gameplay and whatnot, but I’m just not interested in finishing.  Maybe because I really want to replay VII before the Remake drops in 2020, or maybe because I really want to play the remaster of FFVIII, but yeah, I think I might call it a game, write my review, and (possibly) stream/record myself if I can figure that out since it would be oh so appropriate for my first stream/LP to be FFVII.

What I Played

  • Pic-a-Pix Deluxe

Let’s Plays

  • Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time – I’m just all about comfort LPs now.  Probably gonna watch Paper Jam and Bowser’s Inside Story again afterwards.  Hell, maybe I’ll do a rewatch of Super Paper Mario, since that’s the one and only Mario game/RPG to make me legit cry.

I have no idea what game I’m going to play next after I finish EOU.  I usually try to play one console and one handheld, so I might see about playing one of the many games I have on Steam or just my PC alongside whatever Switch or 3DS I grab while I’m writing the FFVI review essay.  I do still have that Ace Attorney/Edgeworth game to play for the 3DS, not to mention the anime to watch.

So how many games have you completed so far this year?

  2. I LOVE Etrian Odyssey. All of those games are so good. Congrats on beating the final boss. That game can be brutal at times.

If you’re burnt out on FFVI (it sounds like you’re burnt out) don’t play it. Play the one you want to play and go back to it later.

How many games have I completed this year? I’ve completed close to 40 games this year. I’m currently playing through Trails of Cold Steel III, Tick Tock Travelers (this one is fantastic btw), Greedfall, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

    • Those games are CHALLENGING. I’m still working on finishing up the final floor and quests. I’ve definitely made some mistakes lol. I changed my Highlander into a Landschneckt but then switched him back. Now he’s at a much lower level than everyone else, AND I’m at the 70 level cap with most of them, BUT I can’t beat that Storm Emperor dragon until Highlander is at a better level. I do love how the game has challenged me though. I’ve had to really problem solve and figure things out. It’s different from Final Fantasy, and different is not necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah, I think I am. I’m going to move onto FFVII so that I can play/finish it before the play the remake in 2020 lol.

I finished 10, though some of them are games like Tetris 99 or Piczle Colors so they don’t really count hehe. Guess I”ll go with eight then.
