The State of the Writer: 12/15/19

<–The State of the Writer: 12/1/19         The State of the Writer: 12/29/19–>

A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

Finished Projects: 1

Project: Story
The Broken Rose
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Length: Novel
Current Word Count: 253,415
Prior Word Count: 253,463
Word Difference: -48
Status: Editing
Progress: First edit of Chapter 21

Because of extenuating circumstances (which I’ll detail in a bit), I haven’t gotten much editing done on Chapter 21.  I have started it, though, and cataloged what I need to add/work on.  I’m hoping to play catch today after some major setbacks over the weekend and be back on schedule with everything soon.

Project: Story Audio Recording
Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Novel
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Status: Editing
Progress: First edit of Chapter 1

I’m about a third of the way through the first edit of this.  It is slow going because I’m anal lol.  I’m using Audacity (which I have to redownload), and I’m wondering if there’s a better program for what I’m trying to do.  I do have DaVinci Resolve, but I’m still kind of learning how that works.

On Hold

Project: Story
Title: Ethereal Blue
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Short Story
Fandom: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Current Word Count: 2788
Prior Word Count: 2788
Word Difference: 0
Status: On Hold
Progress: Chapter 1

I think it’s time to admit that this story is on hold until further notice.  I *may* get a burst of inspiration and start working on it again, but right now I don’t have any room on my schedule to work do so.  I’m not giving up on it of course, but I have other things I need to finish first.

Project: Story
Working Title:
The High Archon
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Original
Length: Novel
Current Word Count: 757
Status: On Hold

This is getting the same treatment as Ethereal Blue, but I think I already decided that a few weeks ago.  Once I finish editing  and posting The Broken Rose, I’ll come back to this.  I’m actually almost done TBR.  I’m in the final five chapters, though I still have over 100 pages left to edit.  If my luck holds out, I’ll have it finished and posted before the midpoint of next year, and I can dive back into this…the story I actually wrote TBR for as a “test” *facepalm*

Project: Essay
Title: The Burning Bells
Fandoms: Game of Thrones/ASOIAF, Final Fantasy VII
Status: On Hold
Progress: Drafting

I had this in my In Progress section, but I’m putting it on hold, too.  I would like to work on it again soon.  Tbh the whole reason I went back to it was because I watched another video on the disaster that was season 8, and I wanted to go back to what I had to say about it comparatively lol.  But I think it’s better if I put this aside, as well, until I’m less pressed for time/projects.

In Progress

  • Book Review: Dune by Frank Herbert – This is going to be one of those long reviews since Dune is such a dense and symbolic novel.
  • Game Review: Final Fantasy VI – See above lol.  I finished drafting the intro.  Next section is Gameplay.  I didn’t actually finish it this time around, but I know FFVI so well I could write a review of it in my sleep.

A Windows update made my computer blow up, so I spent the majority of the weekend dealing with the fallout of that.  I wound up having to reinstall Windows, which took most of Sunday.  Then I had to reinstall Microsoft Office Suite, which took Sunday night into Monday.  I still need to download some stuff like Audacity, but thankfully all of my files are still there (though I backed them up anyway), and I still have my bookmarks.  This isn’t the first time this has occurred either, and I hate that the updates just happen (though I know you can kind of control that).  My computer was slowed down to the point that I couldn’t do anything; none of my Microsoft programs would open and since I mostly use this computer for writing/blogging, that was a huge problem.  I even tried reverting back to a time before the update, but no dice.  Whatever it was didn’t affect the speed in Safe Mode, and since I’ve reinstalled the OS everything seems fine.  The laptop is maybe two years old, so I don’t think it’s an age thing.

Anyway, I’m playing catch up right now.  Thankfully, I was off today (Monday…I backdated this to Sunday since I’m a time wizard), but I was hoping to get some extra editing done as well as Christmas shopping, but oh well.  I’m very indebted to Falcon Game Reviews, Drakulus, and my IRL friend Bill for offering suggestions and listening to me bitch lol.  It eventually got to the point that all I could do was vent and bumble through Google looking for solutions.  Oh, the hubs helped out, too hehe.
