The State of the Gamer: 1/2/20

<–The State of the Gamer: 12/19/19           The State of the Gamer: 1/16/20–>

A weekly post updated every other Thursday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I Obtained

  • Final Fantasy VIII – $13.39 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey – $15 from Trash
  • The Way – $0.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – Christmas gift from my big brother
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies – $8.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice – $11.99 @ Nintendo eShop

What I Finished

Title: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Series Title: Ace Attorney
System: Nintendo 3DS

Date Finished: 12/27/19

I enjoyed this, and the only reason I can think for it’s lower rating than the orig trig is it’s different?  But it’s not really different?  It has a different main character, but Apollo is just as adorable, goofy, and unlucky as Phoenix lol.

What I’m Playing

Title: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies
Series Title: Ace Attorney
System: Nintendo 3DS

I love how each game has a different gimmick or gimmicks, and this one is no different.  The first Apollo game had him and his bracelet (and the dramatic reasons behind that).  This one has that as well as Athena’s psychoanalysis.  I also love the naming conventions of the protagonists.

What I Played

  • Pic-a-Pix Deluxe
  • The Adventures of Lolo – I’m slacking because I got to a more difficult board that I’ve been too tired to puzzle out.

Let’s Plays

  • Mass Effect: Andromeda (Olizandri on YouTube) – I’m still enjoying this but I felt like watching a game that was more story dense.  Not that Andromeda doesn’t have a decent one, but sometimes Oliz will spend a whole episode just fighting an architect or raiding a kett facility, and this is great for when I just want something on in the background while I play Pic-a-Pix.  I found a solution to this problem…
  • Death Stranding (ChristopherOdd on YouTube) –  Holy shit I’m in love with this game.  I’ve heard the complaints about how there are so many cut scenes and how it might as well just be a movie and I get it?  Like I understand where people are coming from with it, and I might very well think that, too, if I were playing it, but it’s great for a watcher who isn’t good at action games.  The lines between movies and video games are becoming more blurred, and I can see DS being more akin to an interactive movie.  I will have a lot to say about this game’s narrative as more unfolds.  Chris is doing hour long videos for this with the first one being two hours in length.  I barely even noticed that tbh because I was so invested in the story.

Second week in a row backdating.  I wonder if I should just start doing the post on Fridays.  I can’t even make the work excuse because I took off today and yesterday.  I was supposed to hang out with a friend today, but getting out of bed before 2 and driving there was just too much.  I think I need a caffeine refuel.

Did you get any of the games on your wish list?
