A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

I spent about an hour on Friday going over one paragraph, trying to figure out how to make it work, finally consigning it to my next editing session.  Then when I went back to it yesterday, for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why the hell I didn’t just delete certain shit, and this is why it’s often prudent just to step away for a little while and come back with a fresh mind.  My problem is I hate unfinished business, and I hate leaving issues if I know they’re there, so it’s a tug-of-war between these two ideals.  This chapter will need a third edit, which isn’t surprising in the least.

I have had so many setbacks with this, not the least of which is I’m not a graphic designer or any kind of visual artist.  I’ve settled on what I want for the first image as an “idea,” but I keep going back and forth on how I want it to manifest, and even though I spent a good deal of time photo editing one picture, I think I’m going to change it (sorry Cid).

This Cid

Then, when I was going to test some things out, I realized I lost my Windows Movie Maker when I did my Windows 10 reinstall, and the program is no longer supported by Microsoft, though you can still download it.  After a series of bad downloads of programs that either weren’t as good or too confusing, I found WMM again, but that of course took up more time.  Now that I’m thinking about it, if WMM was lost, I’m sure Da Vinci Resolve is gone, too, though I was never very good at that program to begin with.  I’d found some YouTube tutorials on it, but kind of sidelined the video I was editing through it anyway.

I guess what I’m trying to say is my ambition far outweighs my talent, and I have to keep trying to figure out how to cobble this together through what little of the latter I have with my minuscule reserve of energy.

In Progress

  • Game Review: Final Fantasy VI – I’ve started the story summary, but I haven’t gotten all that far.  FFVI has a big narrative with lots of characters, and I have tons of artwork I want to use, so it’s going to take a while.
  • Book Review: A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir – I did some note organization on this before continuing with the review.  I realized it would just be easier to talk about the three main characters separately before going to the novel’s overarching themes.

I really wish I had time to do a State of the Watcher post because TV and movie narratives are as compelling as game and book ones, but it’s just not feasible.  I received my DVD of Twin Peaks’ new season and watched the prequel movie yesterday.  I also had quite a laugh when I saw the latest episode of The Good Place as they had a joke about “finally understanding Twin Peaks” in it.  Plus one of my friends put me onto this game called Deadly Premonition, which is TP like so I might need to check that out.  Watching that show made me realize how much of an influence it’s had on the zeitgeist, and Night in the Woods, one of my favorite games and the best one I played last year, is just another example of this.

Anyway, anyone else dealing with SADS?  It’s like the seasonal depression tag-teamed with my regular depression and I’m over here like “Pour me more wine” lol.  Also SADS.  Fucking seriously, SADS. *facepalm*

  2. I’m not straight up sad I don’t think but the motivation to not do anything productive is in full swing. Even when I don’t have any plans on the weekends, I can’t seem to get much done. It doesn’t help that instead of snow, we’ve had rain 98% of the time. At least the snow makes it bright outside and not so damn dreary.
