<–The State of the Gamer: 2/13/20           The State of the Gamer: 3/12/20–>

A weekly post updated every other Thursday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I Obtained

  • Monopoly for Nintendo Switch  – $9.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies DLC – $5.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Finding Paradise – $3.99 @ Steam
  • Memoria – $1.99 @ Steam
  • The Whispered World – $1.98 @ Steam

What I’m Playing

Title: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies
Series Title: Ace Attorney
System: Nintendo 3DS

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -Dual Destinies coverDate Started: 12/27/19

I technically finished the game on the 15th, but I downloaded the DLC immediately afterwards so I’ve been playing that.  I love this case.  It involves an orca, and as with every Phoenix Wright case, nothing ever goes as you expect.

What I Played

  • Pic-a-Pix Deluxe – I am getting my money’s worth of this game, many times over.

Let’s Plays

I did start watching Apollo Justice from Olizandri, but I wound getting back on my bullshit with Majora’s Mask lol.

I actually paid $3.99 for Memoria and The Whispered Word together.  They came as a packaged deal.

  2. I’ve played every main game in the Ace Attorney series, and I actually have to say I enjoyed Dual Destinies more than I did Trials and Tribulations. Admittedly, Dual Destines isn’t my favorite game in the series, but it has my personal favorite villain (in the mainline games, anyway). The writers take their time with them, but boy do they use their screentime effectively.

    • it’s one of the best written game series I’ve ever played; definitely in the top 10! They tie EVERYTHING together. Ahhh, are you talking about the prosecutor? I love him, though Edgeworth will always be my favorite lol. If you’re talking about the actual villain, then yes, that was REALLY cool how they did that. I’m currently watching Apollo Justice again and I’m on the last case where everything comes together. I’m playing the DLC case from Dual Destinies right now then I can play Spirit of Justice.

      • I was referring to the phantom – the main villain of the game. Edgeworth is, without a doubt, the best prosecutor. Indeed, my favorite game in the series is actually the sequel to Investigations (in which he is the protagonist). It has yet to be officially released in English, but there is a good translation patch floating around, and I would go as far as calling it one of the best games of the 2010s.

I have to admit Apollo Justice is my least favorite game in the series. A lot of the plot threads started in that game do have a good payoffs, but it was a definite mixed bag of good ideas and incredibly awful ones. Spirit of Justice, on the other hand, is my favorite mainline entry.

        • Ah yes! I didn’t see Simon as an actual antagonist; he was a victim of the dark age of the law, and I’m so glad how the end of that played out.

I don’t know why the first investigations wasn’t well received. I loved it, but then again Edgeworth is my favorite character, but even separating myself from that I thought it was a good game. They try to do something different with every installment and I think they pull it off well. I noticed the games’ ratings went down after the original trilogy and I honestly don’t see why. Yes, there are new characters, and Phoenix takes a more backstage role, but the characters and stories are still good.

I’m playing Spirit of Justice right now! I just started it and Phoenix doesn’t waste any time getting himself into precarious situations lol.
