Progress: Prepping to post Chapter 22

I sent a note to a Deviant Artist about the picture I want to use for Chapter 22 (not the one above).  As of yet, I haven’t heard back, so I’m in a bit of limbo, though I now also realize I used a picture for a prior chapter that I didn’t ask permission for.  Oh, I credited and all, but I can’t locate any proof of correspondence.  I think that’s why I stopped posted this story on DA itself; I didn’t get permission from an artist there for the image I wanted to use.  I could just pick another picture I suppose.  Anyway, I do have backup images, but what I might do is give it another couple of days then check back to see how active the artist is.  If they haven’t really been on the sight I *might* use the picture with all appropriate credits, though I always feel like that’s dicey.

I did start some work on Chapter 23 last night.  That’s going to be a doozy.  I have so many notes split between OneNote subpages.  I have to organize that first before I can even think about delving into editing the chapter.

Progress: Adding sound effects to Chapter 1

So much of editing this is removing mouth noises lol.  I’m nearing the climax of the chapter, and I’m at a complicated part where I need to layer several sounds.  I also need to figure out how to make my lonely voice sound like many so I can make that into an effect.  The google has been really helpful, and Audacity has a good wiki, so it’s really just drinking enough coffee to have the concentration for it.

In Progress

  • Book Review: Dolor and Shadow (Tales of the Drui) by Angela B. Chrysler – I got a lot of the preliminary for this done yesterday so when I go back to it I can jump right into my very strong feelings about it.
  • Game Review: Final Fantasy VI – I switched up my scheduled days for working on this.  I had both game and book reviews for Saturday, and I think that’s just too much, so I didn’t work on this yesterday.  I have it slotted for today, so I’m hoping to continue from where I stopped in the Magitek Research Facility

So I have my first patron 🙂  Unsurprisingly it’s my dear friend Lightning Ellen who is going by a different moniker now (I’d rather not post it here just in case she wants to keep it on the DL, but of course she is welcome to do so ♥).  We’ve been talking by email during this new chaos and I casually mentioned I had a Patreon set up (no seriously, I was being casual about it) but I wasn’t looking for any donations because I literally have nothing to offer at the moment.  My plan was to get the audio recording of NL Chapter 1 out before I even thought about promoting my Patreon page.  Once I had something to show for it then I’d start talking about it.  I really only set it up because I got a tip from one of the YouTubers I follow that they were about to change their terms, but if you got your creator page done, you’d be grandfathered in, which is the only reason I have one at all.

Since I’m a perfectionist, I’m more than willing to spend money on resources to make my work look and sound good, which is why I purchased a subscription to Epidemic Music and have bought sound effects from Pond5.  Eventually, I’m going to get a new laptop that can handle gaming/streaming so I can start doing that and Let’s Plays.  That’s…honestly the main reason I’d want a Patreon.  I have a job (currently) that allows me to pay my bills, so I’m not quite a starving artist, but having support to better produce work would be lush.  The only inconvenience of having the hubs laid off is I can’t do random retail therapy anymore and buy silly shit (seriously though…I want to gift a Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing to one of my friends who’s been unemployed and sad even before this fiasco, and she’s experiencing major FOMO from seeing all the AC posts.  This…is actually not silly shit tbh).  That’s what I miss the most: being able to just toss some gil needy peoples’ ways if necessary.

Alright, stay safe peeps.  Apparently the next too weeks could be the most virulent, but I don’t think we’re even close to seeing the worst of it.  Future historians will excoriate the leaders of this era, but that doesn’t mean history won’t again repeat :\

  2. I will have to check out your Patreon! I had some issues with Patreon and my credit card last year (credit card kept freezing because it thought Patreon was fraudulent etc, sigh), but I definitely think you deserve some support for all the content you create. Am even more excited for more TBR and Northern Lights in light of the remake coming out. Because even if they mess things up, at least you get things right.

    • Awww, you really don’t have, too. I wanted to have SOMETHING up before I started talking about it. I’d use it for getting better equipment et al. My plan was to upgrade my laptop to a gamer one so I could start to stream. I still might, but I’m holding back due to well world circumstances hehe. I appreciate just the sentiment though ♥

It’s interesting doing audio editing. It’s similar but different from regular editing. Most of the time I know what sound I’m looking for; it’s just the matter of finding the right one. I have no idea what I’m going to do with the unlicensed songs I want to use lol. In some instances its similar to making an AMV, but fair use is complicated.

      • Ooh, it would be super fun to see you stream! I understand re: the real world circumstances, though. At least there’s new FF7 stuff to take us into another world for a bit. 🙂
Audio editing sounds like an interesting path to pursue as well. Fair Use is complicated, unfortunately . . . a lot of factors for a judge/jury to analyze if it gets to the point of litigation (though it usually doesn’t, but cease and desist stuff is no fun).

        • It’s so complicated…I’m not sure what I’m going to do because now that I’ve used certain songs I’m kind of committed to them. I’ll figure something out.

I will most definitely be playing FFVIIR again. I think this is going to be the year of FFVII lol. After I play it myself, I’m going to watch a Let’s play while replaying the original game. Then I want to play Crisis Core and actually finish it (despite Aeris’ TERRIBLE voice acting ugh haha). Then I need to find an LP of Dirge of Cerberus to watch.
