A biweekly post updated every other Wednesday detailing my current reading projects and what new titles I’ve added to my to-read list.  Title links go to Goodreads, and if you have an account there feel free to friend me!  I’d love to see what you’re reading and/or planning to read.

Title: Man and His Symbols
Author: C. G. Jung et al
Date Added: August 4, 2017
Date Started: January 7, 2020

Man and His Symbols coverMedia: Paperback

Apparently I even forgot to include this last time.  Oh well.  I put it on hold because only the first essay is written by Jung himself.  Not that I doubt the other psychologists aren’t worth my time, but I really liked Jung’s style.  I think I’m going to splurge and pick up his Psychology and Alchemy, because I’ve been pretty immersed in the latter.  It’s…EVERYWHERE, and I want to be able to pinpoint its symbols and usages in FFVII et al.

Title: Being and Time
Author: Martin Heidegger

Cover of Being and Time by Martin HeideggerMedia: Paperback
Progress: 1%

The first note I took about this was about how Heidegger was a Nazi.  I think it’s something I need to remember, because no one gets away with being a fucking Nazi without being called out on it.  It presented some serious ethical dilemmas for me, reading this book.  The whole reason I’m doing so is because FFVII references Heidegger in a character with the same name, and since he works for a fascist organization, I thought it was a decent reference.  My studies have and will lead me to some dark places.  It is what it is.

I haven’t *actually* started it yet.  I skimmed the forward and then was too tired by the time I got to the first page.  There are a lot of footnotes.  I need to bring my A game to read this, and by A game I don’t mean my given name but rather lots and lots of coffee.

Title: The Valley of Amazement
Author: Amy Tan
Date Added: April 24, 2014
Date Started: March 1, 2020

Cover of The Valley of Amazement by Amy TanMedia: Hardback – Library
Progress: 32%

There are some serious, serious content warnings needing for this book.  I found that out with the chapter concerning Magic Gourd’s past life.  There is such a rawness in Tan’s writing.  She doesn’t mince words, nor does she remain in one place.  She just says it and moves on.  It’s up to you to linger, because the narrative won’t.

While I wasn’t shocked at how Violet and her mother were betrayed (not a spoiler: it’s in the blurb), it was still absolutely messed up, and Violet’s fate just highlights the reality of life for many girls and women in China at the turn of the 20th century.

Title: Dracula
Author: Bram Stoker
Date Added: May 16, 2015
Date Started: February 13, 2020

Cover of DraculaMedia: eBook/Kindle
Progress: 28%

What else can I say but still so good ♥

Title: Archangel’s Kiss
Series Title: Guild Hunter
Author: Nalini Singh
Date Added: December 27, 2018
Date Started: January 15, 2020

Cover of Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh (Guild Hunter #2)Media: Physical
Progress: 77%

There is this…similarity in stories about angels, at least the good ones, or rather the ones where they’re not so good or at least not so one-dimensional.  Singh tackles PTSD extremely well, and I can only hope Elena gets some help for hers, but she has so many other pressing issues, she doesn’t have such time for herself.

I’m so happy I’m off tomorrow.  TSN needs to sleep for as long as she possibly can then wake up and see if Amazon delivered my copy of the FFVII Remake.  They…won’t because I received a notification that it’s probably getting here Saturday.  It’s better than Squeenix though.  That copy isn’t coming until Tuesday *grumble*  I’m already seeing some of my Let’s Players posting videos about it.  I’m hoping I can finish it if not this weekend then by next weekend.  I should’ve taken off, but circumstances blah blah blah.
