A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

Finished Projects: 0

Project: Story
Title:
The Broken Rose
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Length: Novel
Current Word Count: 252,353
Prior Word Count: 251,945
Word Difference: +403
Status: Editing
Progress: Second edit of Chapter 23

I finished the first edit of Chapter 23 last night.  For some reason known only to past TSN, I put in things from my notes, but didn’t mark off that I’d used them so I spent an unnecessary amount of time confirming that.  But the most annoying thing was I put in something I’d already used in Chapter 24.  Thankfully, I was moving notes to that section so I happened to notice it.  It fits much better there then in where I wedged it in Chapter 23, so it was simple matter of deletion, but I’m still annoyed I didn’t do due diligence beforehand.  Oh well, what’s done is done.  I still need to center on a title for this chapter, and I *might* wind up splitting it in two, but that’s a pretty low percentage since everything just sort of flows.

Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Novel
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Status: Editing
Progress: Adding sound effects to Chapter 1

I am at the re-listening to the audio point right now.  I added in some background music since the beginning was sounding kind of bare, and there’s one part that almost gets me.  I hate hearing animals in pain (even though I wrote it), but…it’s appropriate for the setting.  The background music just makes it worse.  I’m about 10 minutes into the 30-45 minute recording.  Some parts of my reading need to be amplified, so I’m doing that as I go along.  I’ll probably give it one more listen when I’m done to make sure everything sounds right, and then it’s off to work on the visuals.

There are a few things I may need to either re-record or see if I can find alternative recordings for.  There’s also a part where I want to amplify and multiply voices so that’ll be fun to figure out.

In Progress

  • Book Review: Dolor and Shadow (Tales of the Drui) by Angela B. Chrysler – I’ve been too busy playing FFVIIR to work on this, but now that I’m finished the game, I’m going to try to pick my responsibilities back up lol.
  • Game Review: Final Fantasy VI – same here, though I’m hoping I can get back into the VI mindset.  I’m playing VIII and plan to watch Olizandri play FFVIIR.  Three Final Fantasies may be too much even for me :p

I’m still finding it hard to concentrate on anything not FFVIIR related, but it’s getting better.  I was able to read a chapter of an Ace Attorney fanfic, and I actually thought about working on the review of Dolor and Shadow lol.  I still have a few more things to do in FFVIIR since Chapter Select is now available, and there are two Chadley missions I haven’t yet completed (more might open up when I do), but I also need to replay the original game and watch an LP of the Remake.  Since I’ve finished it, I’ve been thinking a lot about the end of my first novel because there’s some, er, timeline/time loop shenanigans there, too, but I’ve been wanting to go back to that for years; I just haven’t had the time.  I guess stay tuned/watch this space :p

  2. How do you choose chapter headings? I’ve always liked the idea of them, but any time I try to use them seems forced and pretentious. I once found an old novel that started every chapter with The chapter in which… and then gave a clear description of the action in that chapter eg …the king is slain by the butcher. I sort of liked that as a twist, but wasn’t sure how to use it – as misdirection maybe. Then Friends did it for their episodes, so I changed my mind!
I hope you and your partner are still doing ok and living safe x

    • Ah, see I like that! The “In which…” I never found it pretentious, or maybe it’s because I’m pretentious, but I thought it was quaint. I usually just try to think of a quick summary but with a twist as you said or vague enough that I don’t give anything away. I’ve found that one person’s presumptuous is another person’s cute, and people who like your writing won’t take it that way and/or you’ll get the proper critiques to tone it down if it does reach that point.
