The State of the Gamer: 6/4/20

<–The State of the Gamer: 5/21/20           The State of the Gamer: 6/18/20–>

A weekly post updated every other Thursday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I Purchased

  • The Darkside Detective – $6.49 @ Steam
  • Gone Home – $7.99 @ Nintendo eShop

What I Finished

Title: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice
Series Title: Ace Attorney
System: Nintendo 3DS

Cover for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of JusticeDate Started: 3/13/20
Date Finished: 4/11/20
Date Completed (100%): 6/3/20

I finished finished this during the two day power outage I mentioned in my latest SOTR post.  I only had one Asinine Attorney case left.  Those were interesting and fun.  More lighthearted and silly than the normal cases, not that AA isn’t silly sometimes, but the stakes weren’t nearly as dire.  Both Phoenix and Apollo had one, so I did Polly’s the other day.  At this point I am entirely caught up with Phoenix Wright, so I don’t know what I’m going to do.  Are they making more?  Are they going to make more?  Should I play Professor Layton now?   Should I google if they’re making more AA games?  *googles*  Nothing new since April 2019??!!?  It says they are making a new game, but there are no details.  I…guess we have to wait.

What I’m Playing

Title: The House of da Vinci II
Series Title: The House of da Vinci
System: Kindle (Android)

Date Started: 6/4/20

Started this during the power outage, too.  There’s voice acting in this one, so we’re getting fancy.  I really enjoyed the first one; it’s a similar vibe to The Room series, so if you like that I recommend this.  I wound up stopping at a puzzle that stumped me a little.  I think I know how to resolve it, but I need to figure out the method to do so.  I think it’s only on Android devices (I haven’t check the Apple store yet), and Grouvee only just added bare bones details.  I actually started playing it before they even had it there.

Title: Final Fantasy VIII (Remastered)
Series Title: Final Fantasy
System: Nintendo Switch

Cover of Final Fantasy VIIIDate Started: 3/31/20

I haven’t played this in a few days, but I’m currently embroiled in the Queen of Cards quest.  I need to get her to Shumi Village before I move onto “Disk 4,” in quotes because there is no Disk 4 on the Switch; it would just be Disk 4 if I were still playing the original.  After you go through time compression, a lot of stuff is closed off, but having the queen in Trabia is good for altering some rules.  Idk I’m just following this one guide.  I think you need to lose a high level card to get her to move, and I think you can always win those back from her son, so I need to do that next.  After that I need to do some GF learning on Cactuar Island for Eden.  I’m not doing that Obel Lake quest.  I watched Olizandri do it in his let’s play, and it’s a lot of annoying hassle for a not so great award.  Pass.

What I Played

  • Picross (S, S3, S4) – So this has replaced Pic-a-Pix in my heart lol.  I’m sure I’ll go back to that at some point once this novelty wears off.  I’ll probably pick up S2 at some point as well.  I really hope they release more color puzzles.  Those are fun.
  • Just Dance 2020 – There are so many songs I want to do but I don’t have the skills lol.

Let’s Plays

Still watching Oliz play FFVIIR.  I’m at the coliseum video after he beat the Hell House.  I did the same thing he did and went through the optional battles for the real rewards.  I also started watching his Minish Cap LP again because it’s just one of my favorites to  relax to.  He just started Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and yes I will be watching that.  I have excite.  I’m also finishing up watching him play Celeste.  I should just subscribe to his channel at this point lol, though I rarely catch the Twitch streams because I’m terrible.  Seeing as I rarely catch HG’s Twitch streams and she’s one of my blogger friends, you can see I’m obviously the problem lol.  HOW WAS I NOT SUBSCRIBED TO HG???  Well I had to remedy that.

I’m trying to decide what if anything I’m going to play next since I’ve finished Ace Attorney.  I could just finish FFVIII so I can start playing the original FFVII, while also completing FFVIIR.  It’s not like I don’t have plenty of things to play or am already playing.  Or I could start Gone Home, because why the hell not lol.  I also need to play the ridiculous amount of demos I’ve grabbed over the past few months because I have a ton of those, too.

I kind of want to pick up the new Paper Mario game, too.  It’s the origami one plus there’s a new Clubhouse Games for the Switch.  It’s $40 and I really can’t justify spending the money when I have plenty of games to play, but…I want to lol.

  3. I think the new Paper Mario game looks pretty cool! The circular battle system seems pretty interesting… I haven’t seen anything like that before, so I hope it doesn’t confuse my poor brain lol! I’d have to actually play it and try it out for myself. I love all the Paper Mario games, though I haven’t actually completed any… story of my life.
