The State of the Writer: 1/10/21

<–The State of the Writer: 12/27/20         The State of the Writer: 1/24/21–>

A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

Finished Projects: 0

Project: Story
Working Title:
The High Archon
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Original
Length: Novel
Status: Preparation
Progress:
Setting up notes in Scrivener

I have reached the obsessive stage of my language creation lol.  I think I’ve found a pattern I like though, and I also think I can move on and back to other things while still working on this on the side.  I still have numerous items from my notebooks to work in, nor have I figured out some of the integral details of how the world operates.  It’s more hashing out how things work so that I can be consistent when I finally start to write.  Plus I want to go back to finding pictures of beautiful people lol.  I’ll start posting the ideas I have for the other characters, too.

Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Novel
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Status: Editing
Progress: Adding pictures for slideshow

(Speaking of beautiful people…) I use this picture a lot.  It’s the latest one at 187, but I also use it for 180 and a slightly modified version for 153.  It’s really good for showing sorrowed resignation behind a mask, and that’s what his initial appearance in this chapter is about.  I’m slightly over 30 minutes right now, and I’m trying to go back to a picture gathering methodology, as opposed to picking one at a time.

In Progress

  • Game Reviews: Final Fantasy VI – I made a little bit of progress this time round.  Started writing about the Figaro twins.  I still have literally no idea if I’m going to keep all of the stuff I’m writing or if I’m going to edit it down and split some things off into articles.  Ah well, I’ll just keep writing (when I can).
  • Book Reviews: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – I managed to start this and immediately jumped into its Jungle Book comparisons lol. I wish I had time to reread Kipling’s work, but alas.

Now the caffeine starts to kick in?  And only kinda?  Ugh, oh well.  I’ve started watching Schitt’s Creek, and I am so into it.  I love all of the characters, which is both impressive and surprising.  You have to know how to write to make people like that sympathetic.  Even though they’re out-of-touch, once rich people, they’re so clueless and kooky, you just can’t help but root for them.  It’s the classic “fish out of water” story, and even though they’re all so selfish in their way, you can see the potential for growth, and that’s what keeps me interested.  When you know people can be better, you want to give them a chance.

I need to work on my year end posts, the top books and top games ones.  The books one will take longer, though I think you all will find the games one interesting.  I need to locate some objectivity for this one, and I’ll gladly put the process on display for your amusement lol.

I guess I should be happy I finished posting The Broken Rose in 2020 and started working on The High Archon, buuuuuuut you know me lol.  I wish I’d gotten more done like finished the Northern Lights audio recording, but any progress is better than no progress.  I might do a 2021 project post or something soon.  It often helps me to do that since it’s something I can use to hold myself accountable, not…that I won’t do that anyway, but it helps to have it written down/posted.

What are your creative plans for this year?  Let me know in the comments below or leave the link to a post you did about it!

    • I JUST finished watching two more episodes. I both love and hate that it’s only a half hour long. I feel like they go by so quickly, but it’s great for watching quickly unlike hour long shows. It’s weird because it’s ONLY another half hour, but it makes such a difference. I actually almost accidentally started watching that lol. It popped up on my Netflix and I saw the characters and mistook it for the show, but I turned it off before anything was spoiled :p

  2. Omg I love pinterest-hunting for character and aesthetic inspiration too! 😀 So. Much. FUN.
My creative plans for the year are practicing more with digital art since I finally started giving it a try, and to be more productive with my writing rather than letting my obsessive anxiety issues and terrible attention span keep holding me back from completing anything with it. lol

    • I keep getting distracted with doing it lol. I’m trying to do my “real” work first and then treat myself by searching for images.

Digital art is so hot right now. I need to post the next pic from my illustrator friend for The Broken Rose. I wish I had SOME visual art talent. All I can do is apply filters and do a little bit of color changes/corrections.
