A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.
Finished Projects: 1
Working Title: The High Archon
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Current Word Count: 11,282
Prior Word Count: 11,211
Word Difference: +71
I’ve never struggled so much with a story before, and it’s due to a variety of factors. I’m sure if I was writing this a decade or so ago I would not have the issues I’m having now because a decade ago I had more energy. While I have no shortage of ideas, the application of them takes more concentration than I can usually muster, and it’s frustrating AF. Thank god I take notes on things, because I literally forgot an explanation/story I wrote about a major religious belief that makes perfect sense for how people would see the world, and it’s like 🤦🏾♀️ wtf are you doing?? So I need to stop and reorganize…again. I need to figure out how OneNote and Scrivener are going to function in this story. I’ve been using Scrivener for notes and OneNote for checklists, but I think I need to define better parameters. I just hate feeling so unmoored, and I hate how I have to constantly reorganize. It’s like my methods prior aren’t good enough and shit just becomes chaotic again. I suppose I should expect the constant fight against entropy with the expectation that entropy will always win.
Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Progress: Adding in sound effects
I don’t think I got any work done on this in the past few weeks, but that’s par for the course for this time of the year. I at least have the sounds kind of sorted now. I think I’m going to just continue through the chapter and add in what I think fits best. What makes this more difficult than Chapter 1 is now I have to consider how I’m going to use sounds/music I established there in a cohesive, thematic way.
Project: Research & Essay Organization
Status: Organizing Essay Notes
Progress: Working through notes for FFVII & ASOIAF comparative essays
This is another reason I’m feeling overwhelmed. Just organizing this is an undertaking. I’m trying to break it up into smaller pieces and attack it like that. One of the biggest issues is there’s not really any way for me to ask for advice or help with this, you know? Because I’d have to explain what I was doing, and while of course many people have written theses and dissertations, the combination of what I want to accomplish and what I need to research is unique to this specific situation. I don’t know what I might need to know before starting, and I’ve been trying to pinpoint the “foundational texts” while also figuring out which would be specific to certain essays. I also seem to be looking at other narratives for comparison, and I’m like “TSN, wtf are you doing?” and I honestly do not know.
I did manage to add a lot of videos to my research list on OneNote. I might start alternating between reading websites/blogs for research and watching videos. I won’t say watching videos is easier; I still have to pay attention and take notes, but it’s different.
Project: Author Website
Status: Renewed Free Trial (accidentally)
Progress: Planning time to work on
I wound up extending my trial, though it’s not like I’ll have time to work on it this week either *shrug* I need like a full day to do this after I purchase it. I’m going to try to schedule out that time this month.
- Game Reviews: Final Fantasy VI – Still editing the Story Analysis section. There’s not much else to report.
- Book Reviews: A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (Montague Siblings) – I didn’t get the majority of this done as hoped with last update, but I did get some work done, which is better than nothing.
I made a 2022 Project Organization page on my Project Checklist tab in my Stories and Poems notebook on OneNote (users of it will [hopefully] understand what the hell I’m talking about). I needed to do something to try to sort all of my shit out, and now I’m in the midst of updating my daily to-do list to better reflect what I can actually accomplish in a day. What I want to do now is go a week with the schedule I have currently, see what I’m able to get done in a day, note that down, average it out, and use the information to update my to-do list in a way where I can get at least the majority of it done regularly.
