The State of the Writer: 5/15/22

<–The State of the Writer: 5/1/22         The State of the Writer: 5/29/22–>

A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.

Finished Projects: 0

Project: Story
Working Title:
The High Archon
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Original
Length: Novel
Current Word Count: 11,282
Prior Word Count: 11,282
Word Difference: 0
Status: Outlining
Progress:
Reorganizing & Worldbuilding

I didn’t update the story collage yet as I mentioned in the last update, but I did want to start using different pictures to reflect what I’ve been working on, and oh boy, have I been working on laying the foundation.  The above picture perfectly encapsulates the Sky World, which, along with its inhabitants, I’ve been furiously working on fleshing out.

I usually try to keep this stuff vague because there are so many details involved, but if people want me to make posts about specific details in my WIP I can find a way to do that.  All I need is the go ahead to talk about my writing and I’ll never shut the fuck up lol.

Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Novel
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Status: Editing
Progress: Adding in sound effects

I don’t think I’ve worked on this since last status update, so I still need to finish adjusting some of the sounds that were pushed forward due to the longer effect before.  Every day I have this scheduled I have other things and by the time I get to it, it’s either too late or I’m too tired.  I redid my entire to do list but it might need to be tweaked a bit.

Project: Research & Essay Organization
Status: Organizing Essay Notes
Progress: Working through notes for FFVII & ASOIAF comparative essays

It only made sense to go through the rest of the essays and figure out what work needs to be done there and what resources I could use.  Also I could combine some of them with others like I had some notes on Resident Evil (the first one), and I could absolutely use that in Dispossession, Apotheosis, and Eugenics essay(s).  I grabbed a few videos from YouTube breaking down the timeline, which I’ll watch…eventually.

That’s another issue (?)  I’m in both the gathering information phase and the note taking phase.  It’s similar to where I am with my WIP.  I’m both fleshing things out and getting new ideas.  This seems to be my lot lol.  It’s frustrating because one phase is utterly chaotic and the other is very organizational.  It’s like one part of me keeps shoveling sand while the other is desperately trying to mold more of into the castle.

I did at least combine the two workbooks on OneNote so now I don’t have to keep going back and forth between Research and Essays there.  I still need to do some organization on the combined workbook, but it already feels less confusing.

Project: Author Website
Status: Pending
Progress: Planning time to work on

I don’t want to say I’ve been having second thoughts about publishing my short story, but…well I’ve been thinking about a lot of stuff with this story, because it, too, is part of the series/universe of my WIP even though it’s more of an alt?  Pretty much I’m re-evaluating everything right now so I’m not sure what I’m doing.  I could arguably still make it, but my main reason was to have a place to promote my self-published short.  Eh, I suppose we’ll see.

In Progress

  • Game Reviews: Final Fantasy VI – I did some note organization here.  There were some I had from when I watched the Pixel Remaster LP, and one of the points is something I can talk about in a comparative essay as opposed to the review.  There are a few things I might add, but as this “review” is also sort of an examination/essay, I’m not 100% sure how I’m going to post it.  Like I might break it up into parts.  Nothing is certain anymore is it?  Also it’s been over two years since I started writing this lol.  I know this because I stopped playing on 10/12/19 so yeah…
  • Book Reviews: A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (Montague Siblings) – I don’t think I did any work on this these past two weeks.  Again I spent a lot of that time reorganizing my to do list, and this sort of fell by the wayside.

I really like Microsoft To Do because you can use it both on your phone and PC, and programs like that are just so convenient.  It’s what I love about OneNote.  I was able to sync Scrivener on my phone so it’s up to day, but it’s more complicated because you have to use Dropbox.  I did take some things off my to do list.  I was trying to work on two other story ideas just in the planning phase, but I honestly can’t work on too many things at once, so I wasn’t getting to them anyway.
