Progress: Reorganizing & Worldbuilding
There’s been much worldbuilding in TSN land, and I’ve started migrating some of the information back to Scrivener now that it’s organized. I’ve also decided to reorg some of my Scrivener templates because I love self-abuse. I really wish I could figure out how to do things from the get-go, but unfortunately I’m more of a trial and error person, so I often don’t know what will work until I figure out what doesn’t, but by the time I do, I have a ton of information I then have to incorporate into the new way. It’s frustrating but it is what it is.
I created a reference page for terms because I’ve been doing nothing but creating new ones in one of the languages that I made up for my series. It’s a combination of Latin, German, and French mostly, because the first two are my favorite to sing in and I know a bit of the last. So, for example, there’s a demographic called the Sourisians, souris meaning “mouse” in French, due to their tiny stature, though a big inspiration for this came from the title of Kafka’s short story “Josephine the Singer, or The Mouse People.” They’re one of the demographics I need to flesh out prior to drafting again, and honestly, it’s fun to just stream-of-consciousness this stuff, because I already have ideas both in my head and in OneNote, so there’s a lot to work with.
As for this week’s picture, I’ve been obsessed with anything to do with stars and starlight et al. It’s integral to the current demographic I’m working on: winged humanoids (don’t even pretend to be surprised…). The MC of my first novel was (a secret, not so secret) one. The word for star in Latin is stella, but I actually prefer “aster,” which I believe is Greek. It just goes so well with a lot of terms, so I’ve been using it a lot. The lovely pic of the Milky Way would be known as the Asterveg (“star way” or “starlit path”) combining “aster” with the German for “way.” Technically, it would be weg in Deutsche, but I’m already making up a language. I don’t need to make it more complicated lol.
I might do a post about terms at some point. One of my fellow writers Mercury the Scribe does things like that and I LOVE to read it ♥ They have a whole World Building section on their blog. If you love horror that will keep you up at night, I highly recommend.
Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Fanfiction
Length: Novel
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Status: Editing
Progress: Adding in sound effects
I’ve done a little bit more work on this. It tends to be on the back burner most of the time, so gets soft of brushed to the wayside if I’m too tired by the end of the day, but slow progress is still progress.
Project: Research & Essay Organization
Status: Organizing Essay Notes
Progress: Working through notes for FFVII & ASOIAF comparative essays
I’ve actually been breezing through the rest of the essays. Quite a few of them can be combined with ideas I already have, but of course I’ve also decided to break some of those ideas up into multiple essays, so I wonder if I should even bother to combine. A conundrum.
I have tons of ideas about what I’m going to do once I’m finished this part. I desperately need to organize the things I still need to read or watch. It seems really sloppy. I did combine the Research and Essay Notebooks at least, so I don’t have to bounce between those any more. That made little to no sense.
Project: Author Website
Status: Pending
Progress: Under consideration
I can and should still make this because I can have a place to really talk about what I want to do, but…I also have this here? I feel like the author page is something that should take center stage when I’m closer to having something published, and while I can definitely do that with the short, it’s not my top priority at the moment. I’m glad I got it edited by Kat McIntyre so that’s there for when I’m ready, but I think I’m too involved in other things right now.
In Progress
- Game Reviews: Final Fantasy VI – I put in the additional notes the noticed I had a to do tag about “watching saved Tetraforce Theory video,” the Tetraforce being a Zelda theory about there being a “fourth” piece of the Triforce due to the “empty” spot. I compare it to the “fourth face of the goddess” idea in terms of the Triple Aspect like how the dark side of the moon is the “fourth” phase i.e. null aka zero. Not really sure why past me thought this was pertinent to FFVI, though as I’m writing about it again, I think I know what line of thought she might have been on. Guess I won’t completely know until I watch lol.
- Book Reviews: A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (Montague Siblings) – Made some good progress on this, too. Maybe I’ll have it published sometime next month.
My increasingly bad eyes have required me to buy reading glasses…to put over my glasses. See, I’m getting older and when that happens, your lenses (the ones in your eyes) lose their flexibility, so it’s hard to focus on close things. Since I’m myopic, my glasses correct for that, but because of the getting old thing that means I can’t see close things as well anymore. One of my solutions is to just take my glasses off and problem solved, but this doesn’t work so well for working on a laptop that’s about a foot away, which I do both for work and whatever the hell this is. So it was either use my magnifying glass or get reading glasses. I still do the former, and I desperately need to go to the eye doctor (and dentist ugh), but with the plague still rampant, I’m wary about it. I know doctors’ offices are still upholding mask mandates, but it’s still a chore to go anyway because of my stupid back and my old enemy: stairs. So until then I’m doing what I can. I know when I finally do get my new prescription it’ll give me a migraine, because that’s what happened the last time I went too long without updating. I had to switch back and forth between my old glasses and new ones. Something similar happens when I wear my contacts. I can’t put on my glasses afterwards because the prescriptions are slightly different. I just keep my glasses off for the rest of the night. I can still read and do shit on my phone so it’s not a huge deal so long as I’m done with any computer shenanigans.
Ugh, I’d meant to do so much more this weekend, but I didn’t get up until 4 in the afternoon/early evening both today and yesterday. At least we got the litter boxes cleaned 😒
