A post updated every other Sunday discussing my current writing projects and any completed the prior two weeks.
Finished Projects: 1
Working Title: The High Archon (The Truth Seeker Chronicles)
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Current Word Count: 11,282
Status: Reorganizing & Worldbuilding
Progress: Updating character pages on Scrivener
What’s a story with an antagonist? Well…she’s not the antagonist of the WIP but rather the first novel The Serpent’s Tale, and she doesn’t show up until the second half of the duology. I need to do a lot of work on my first novel to get it up to my current standards, but re-reading it, it definitely has good bones and I’m still proud of a lot of the lines in it. That either means I’m still substandard as a writer and haven’t grown at all if I think some of my crap sounds good, or it actually is pretty good and just needs a clean up. I’m trying to side with the latter.
Anyway Alinor Avae (pronounced AL-in-or uh-VAY) is a very proud woman in a high position who wants more. She has her reasons for feeling dispossessed, and of course there’s a connection between her and one of the protagonists because I’ve watched Lessons from the Screenplay (though…I hadn’t at the time of the writing), and I got some pointers on what makes a good villain, and that’s a big one. Even though she’s not in the WIP, there’s still a lot of things about and around her I have to figure out, and my next big brainstorm needs to go back to the very beginning as in beginning of the world/universe to figure out how all of this stuff fits together *starts chugging coffee*
I’m all about pronunciation guides btw. It takes the guesswork out of things.
Oh shit, I said I was going to move onto the next demographic afterwards last time didn’t I lol. I think that was going to be after I did some character pages, so I’m not really a liar :p
Project: Story Audio Recording
Title: Northern Lights
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Progress: Adding in sound effects
I don’t think I did anything with this these past few weeks. I’ve been so involved with The Truth Seeker Chronicles, and I started playing a new video game (which I’ll discuss more in that update), so this has fallen by the wayside. I hope to pick it back up soon though.
Project: Research & Essay Organization
Status: Organizing Essay Notes
Progress: Working through notes for FFVII & ASOIAF comparative essays
I’m working on the list of what essays need what reference works right now. I finished the ones for my Comparative Essays tab and am on The Song of VIIs one. I have a Final Fantasy Essays tab, but it doesn’t look like I did the same organization with that one as the others, so either I’ll have to do that or leave it for a bit. The major work there is an all encompassing piece about the “time circles, archetypes, and parallels” in the entirety of the FF Series with a subsection on liminal states, and there’s a video series by RebeccaETrip about the psychology of Final Fantasy that I definitely want to watch first. Hm, I guess I could/should go through that section then lol. The reason I didn’t is I’d planned to play through all of the relevant Final Fantasies prior, but one, that’s taking much longer than anticipated; and two, I’m not sure if I really have to? I think I could write the essay without doing so, as long as I’m duly diligent.
Project: Author Website
Name: Adrienne’s Authorly Adventures
Is it up? Yes. Do I update it often? No. Do I try? Eh.
I’m still working out this “what the fuck am I doing” thing. I don’t have many followers and I also think the algorithm isn’t very good to me because of this, so I’m trying to share whatever I post there on my main page. I do like having a specific place for writer woes, so even if I don’t update often, it’s nice to have a space where I can.
- Game Reviews: Final Fantasy VI – I made some excellent progress yesterday with my editing. I have a third edit of the Analysis section on my checklist, but I might be able to forgo that (or at least another full one) with the way it’s going, though I’ll probably still do a read through. This is the most complicated section I think to edit since it’s all of my deeper thoughts, so once I get through this, the final sections should go much quicker.
- Book Review: Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke – I started writing this a few days ago after deciding I’m not going to get as deep into it as I initially thought. It’s one of those books that certainly could be thoroughly examined, but tbh I just don’t have the time. I’ll touch on a few things, because it is a decent read and ahead of its time in many ways, and I may see if I can find some video essays/reviews on it for my own sake and any body else’s.
This weekend was kind of another wash. I didn’t wake up until 5 both days ughhh, but at least I’m still getting (some) things done. I’ve been doing this crunch challenge thing where you increase your crunches by five each day then take a rest on the fourth. I usually flake out after 50 so I’m going to stop there, take a break and then start over again. I can do around 30 in a row right now before I need a break, and after fifty I’m just like “Nah,” so I figured it’s better to just start over then try to force myself to do something I know I’m not going to do lol. My stubborn Taurus ass. Today was 25 and I’ll say that I can definitely see a difference with how quickly my back hurts. I can stand for longer, so I consider that a major win.
