The State of the Gamer: 7/28/22

A weekly post updated every other Thursday detailing my current gaming projects.  I have an account at Grouvee, which is a site you can use to keep track of your backlog, so please feel free to friend me there!

What I Demoed

Nothing.

What I Purchased

Nothing.

What I Finished

Title: Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars
Series: Voice of Cards
System: Nintendo Switch

Cover of Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon RoarsDate Started: July 11, 2022
Date Finished: July 25, 2022

This game ended so abruptly, or maybe I just expected more?  It’s funny because the end was clearly advertised.  A guy who used to be a good person merges with a monster and you fight them in multiple stages with epic music in the background.  Standard Squeenix stuff.  I don’t know why I didn’t realize that was the end.  I might have been waiting for a part I recalled from the demo to show up but it didn’t?  Either way I made the wrong choice and got the bad ending lol.  So I went back and picked up everything I missed.  I have to do the final battle gain and make the choice I know I should’ve made.

There’s a sequel to this called Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden, which is its own story, and it has a higher rating, so I might pick that up next.

What I’m Playing

Nothing currently since I finished VOC.

What I Played

  • Picross S4

What I’m Watching

  •  Olizandri
    • Horizon Forbidden West – Still loving this.  I am continually amazed by how well the NPCs are done.  They’re legit real people, and the game makes you care about them almost immediately.  I have an idea of the psychology behind the “trick,” but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work on me.  My favorites right now are Morlund and his crew, Handa, and that one Tenakth grandmother who almost had a thing with the Utaru herbalist.  That last one had me tearing up.
    • Live A Live – I’m kind of glad I decided to watch this instead of play it.  Not that I couldn’t but I’m less used to grid battles than others, and while of course I could learn, my energy reserves are low and at least I get to experience it.  He’s doing the prehistoric story, which is…interesting.  I’d say it has a ton of “dick and fart” jokes, but it’s more just the latter lol.  It’s still more of a game meant for kids, but like there are literally abilities called “Stink Poot,” which I’m sorry that’s fucking hilarious.  We all retain that 13 year old sense of humor or at least we should.
  • ChristopherOdd
    • The Quarry – I kept seeing all these videos about this so I’m glad I found someone I like who played it.  It definitely held my attention and was an interesting take on a common legend.  The voice acting was amazing and I’m not just talking about David Arquette who wasn’t really in it that much.  I still want to smack that one kid whose selfish, honestly toxic decision could’ve been considered the catalyst for the nightmare.  If he hadn’t sabotaged their way out, none of that shit would’ve happened.  Though there are quite a few people you could point the blame at.  I kind of want to write a review/breakdown, but *gestures at imaginary clock*

So I’m really feeling the urge to buy Stray of course because it’s all anyone is talking about.  I did hear a warning that if you have an issue with cats being hurt, you’ll have problems with certain scenes, and tbh I’m glad for that heads up.  I still want to play, but I’ll be prepared.  I might see if I can buy and play it this weekend on my PS4, and since I finished VOC I also want to get back to Tales of Berseria on the PS4, too, though I might download the next installment of VOC.  Of course I have the option to watch Stray, but playing as a cat is really tempting lol.

  2. I really want to play Stray too. Shark Week had me binge-playing Hungry Shark World for fun, and I’ve played a couple Mario Kart tournaments. It’s funny how humbling playing online against other racers always is! lol

    • Oh my yes lol. Considering I lost Mario Kart to an 8 year old I have literally no smack to talk 😀

I’ll download Stray eventually, probably after I finish this puzzle game I’m super into. House of Da Vinci III. It’s on iOS and probably Android, too for like $5? Which is super cheap for how good it is and how much work the devs put in. It’s making me want to replay The Room series, too.
