A biweekly post updated every other Wednesday detailing my current reading projects and what new titles I’ve added to my to-read list.  Title links go to Goodreads, and if you have an account there feel free to friend me!  I’d love to see what you’re reading and/or planning to read.

It’s time for a new library book.  I finished this a few days prior to its due date.  Read some of the comments/critiques and apparently people found it boring and not scary?  I guess they were expecting it to be scary like The Ring, but even though I noticed the similarities (and with a little digging found out it’s a very common trope in Japanese horror), I wasn’t expecting the story to be like that.  Idk.  There’s no accounting for taste, but I think people judged the book based on their expectations not on what it was (the same thing happened with Amy Tan’s The Valley of Amazement).  I’m interested in reading the sequel The Suffering.

Title: The King in Yellow
Author: Robert W. Chambers
Date Added: August 4, 2019
Date Started: August 4, 2019
Date Restarted: April 17, 2022
Date Finished: October 9, 2022

I finally finished and tried looking up breakdowns, but I’m no closer to knowing what the hell those final “Street” stories were about then I was before.  I think The Foundry YouTube channel has something about the book, and I saved a few other videos on a playlist.

Date Started: October 18, 2022

I can definitely see why the blurb said this is like Rosemary’s Baby by way of Octavia Butler…well given my general knowledge of Octavia Butler.  The novel has a visceral beauty, and the language is so lush and addictive.

Title: The Charmer, Volume 1
Series: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Circus of the Damned

This is reminding me how much I loved the earlier Anita Blake books and see all these hot people illustrated is good for my, uh, nerves lol.

Title: Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens: The Divine Feminine in the African Religious Traditions

Nope *shrug*

Date Started: May 3, 2022

Cover of Ecofeminism by Maria Mies & Vandana ShivaMedia: Paperback

I know I read more pages but I guess that didn’t do anything for the percentage.  It doesn’t matter.  I’m getting some great notes.

Title: House of Sky and Breath
Series: Crescent City
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Date Added: March 7, 2021
Date Started: February 23, 2022

Cover of House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas (Crescent City)Media: Physical/Hardback

I did manage to knock out two more chapters.

I was too stressed out yesterday to work on this and wound up staring into space for about an hour before I played some video games, watched some Netflix, and went to bed way too late.  I was supposed to do State of the Gamer, but I’ll just backdate that for today when I get to it tomorrow.
