The State of the Reader: 12/14/22

<–The State of the Reader: 11/30/22         The State of the Reader: 3/8/23–>

A biweekly post updated every other Wednesday detailing my current reading projects and what new titles I’ve added to my to-read list.  Title links go to Goodreads, and if you have an account there feel free to friend me!  I’d love to see what you’re reading and/or planning to read.

Books Purchased: 3

Total: $15.97

Books Finished: 0

Books On Hold: 1

Cover of Ecofeminism by Maria Mies & Vandana ShivaMedia: Paperback

I shelved this in order to switch to another research book for a bit.  I got some amazing notes from this one, and obviously intend to go back.

Books Reading: 6

Title: The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious
Series: Jung’s Collected Works
Author: C. G. Jung
Date Added: July 20, 2019
Date Started: December 9, 2022

Cover of The Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious by C. G. JungMedia: Paperback
Progress: 1%

This is going to be another one that’s going to be in the research reading rotation.  I got a lot of notes from only the first five pages, but I also had to do a lot of googling.  I think I’ve noted and/or noticed this before but Jung often writes with the assumption that his readers will not only know Greek and Latin but be familiar with certain historical figures others might find obscure.  Obviously I know who Freud is, but I had to look up Philo Judaeus.  Eh either you have the knowledge or you have the Google.

Title: Maya and the Rising Dark
Series: Maya and the Rising Dark
Author: Rena Barron
Date Added: June 20, 2022
Date Started: November 22, 2022

Cover of Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron (Maya and the Rising Dark #1)Media: eBook/Library
Progress: 48%

I was able to renew this one until at least Christmas Eve (I think?), and I think I’ll be able to finish it for a total of 22 books read this year.  I won’t make my 30 book challenge but eh.

Title: The Cruel Prince
Series: The Folk of the Air
Author: Holly Black
Date Added: August 1, 2019
Date Started: October 31, 2022

Media: eBook/Kindle
Progress: 61%

And I was able to borrow this again.  I haven’t done any more reading on it, but I am more than halfway done.

Title: Hamlet
Author: William Shakespeare
Date Added: March 6, 2018
Date Started: October 23, 2022

Cover of Hamlet by William ShakespeareMedia: eBook/Kindle

Haven’t read any more of this.

Title: Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens: The Divine Feminine in the African Religious Traditions
Author: Lilith Dorsey
Date Added: May 29, 2020
Date Started: August 1, 2022

Cover of Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens by Lilith DorseyMedia: Paperback
Progress: 15%

I definitely think the Maya novel is encouraging me to read more of this since that’s about orishas fictionally, and this is about their background.  This is why fantasy and myth are so important.  They ignite imagination and curiosity for more.

Title: House of Sky and Breath
Series: Crescent City
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Date Added: March 7, 2021
Date Started: February 23, 2022

Cover of House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas (Crescent City)Media: Physical/Hardback
Progress: 55%

*sigh* nope

So we settle on the house tomorrow at 11:00, which means I need to be up by 8:00 in order to leave by 9:00 to make it to the house itself by 10:00 for the final walkthrough.  This means I need to try to start getting up by 7:30 and I definitely have to shower tonight because I won’t have the energy for that tomorrow morning ahhh oh well it’s fine.  It’s why I took off today and tomorrow of course.  We’re not moving until January 14 next year so the rest of this year will be packing.

As for book stuff as I mentioned above I won’t be making my 30 book challenge, but it is what it is.  I’ll hopefully finish the Rena Barron and I may get through the Holly Black as well since I’m more than halfway done with them both.  My other books are more heavy, though I really wish I could’ve added the Sarah J. Maas to my finish  list as it’s the book I’ve been reading the longest.

Happy Holidays if you celebrate any!  I believe the next SOTR will be after they’re all over 🙂
