Not Really Another Liebster Award

I wasn’t actually nominated for this (hence the title of the post), but rather decided to take Inkbiotic up on her request, since it’s for “anyone who fancies answering them,” and I’m an anyone!  I think one of two questions were to my liking, and I figured I could muddle through the rest, so without further ado…

1). When was the last time you laughed? What at? – My husband is currently playing Destiny, and he was giving instructions to his team members on how they were going to do the raid.  It reminded me of the infamous “Leroy Jenkins” video, and I started laughing my ass off.

“At least I have chicken.”  Classic.

2). What’s the weather like where you are? How does it affect you? – It’s been more fall like weather (probably because it’s September), but it was a bit more humid today.  My allergies are starting to bother me, which means my face and nose are itchy.   I tend to suffer worse in the autumn and winter months.  I don’t know what I’m allergic to though.  Should probably figure that out at some point.

3). What thoughts keep you awake at night? – Am I dying?  No really.  I have all these stupid health problems with more cropping up.  During the day I’m logical and calm, but at night that wall is more wobbly so I wonder if my quietus is coming.  I usually have to poke my logic circuits at 3 in the morning and avoid checking WebMD.

The Real Neat Blogger Award

I was nominated for this half a year ago by real neat blogger herself Ignited Moth who posts include abundant book reviews (with a special emphasis on comics and graphic novels), her own gorgeous art, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones (one of our mutual loves), and many other amazing things.  And I just have to steal her gif.

It’s taking me a little while to catch up on my award nominations and blogger tags, and since I have so many thanks to all you lovely people, I’m finding I need to pass on any duplicates at this point.  I certainly appreciate the accolades, you’re all drowning me with your kindness ♥

THE RULES:

Thank and link the person who nominated you.

Answer the seven questions your nominator has provided.

Nominate 7 other bloggers and create 7 questions for them.

Easy enough…sevens across the board 😉

IGNITED MOTH’S QUESTIONS:

1.) What is your favorite memory of 2016? – Can I say when it ended?  Is that too morbid?  I don’t think 2016 was a great year, but then a year is really just the time it takes this planet to circle its sun that we humans have imbued with arbitrary meaning (and yes I am fun at parties).  There’s also the fact that we’re more than halfway through 2017 (which also is pretty terrible…I’m seriously trying to avoid Facebook right now, because ugh), so it’s hard to weed out what happened in the past year from what happened currently.  Hm, hopefully, I’ll do better on the next question.

2.) If you could make a living in any profession (your absolute dream job) what would it be? – Writer.  No questions asked.

3.) Have you ever met anyone famous? – I did see Tom Hiddleston in real life last year in NYC, but I didn’t actually meet him (mores the pity D:).  Hey!  That could be my “favorite memory of 2016” 😀

4.) If you could travel to any one place in the world right now where would it be? – England.  I’ve always wanted to go, and we nearly went to London a few years ago, but the finances just weren’t in place.

5.) Who is your favorite author? – George R. R. Martin writes my favorite book series A Song of Ice and Fire, so I suppose he could count as my favorite author, but I really think of it more as he writes my favorite book series (if that makes any sense).  Martin has said some problematic things, and while I like it when celebrities are playfully trollish, sometimes he comes off a bit harsh.  While I appreciate any writing advice given by a master of the craft and someone who’s achieved wild success, the fact that the advice varies from master to master says a great deal for the arbitrary and fickle nature of the publishing world (I’m including Stephen King in this assessment, too.  His advice about “never using adverbs” seems a bit too cut and dry).  Obviously talent is often involved in gleaming success (though not all the time), and it certainly is in Martin’s case, but there are many other factors that are often outside a writer’s control to contend with, which leaves many potential masterpieces undiscovered and an abundance of authors in the shadow of obscurity.  So though Martin writes my favorite series and second favorite story of all time, I’d have to say my favorite author (at least currently) is Grace Draven who wrote the Wraith Kings Series.

6.) What is your favorite mythical creature? – I don’t think angels count so I suppose I’ll go with vampires.  They’re close to as beautiful.

7.) What do you look most forward to in 2017? – I suppose I should go to 2018 at this point.  Finding time to improve my blog and get my YouTube channel underway.

MY NOMINEES:

The Writing Hufflepuff – I can’t have a Harry Potter question and not tag her!  She’s the Harry Potter guru whose blog is an utter and adorable delight.  I’ve added many a book and graphic novel to my ever expanding TBR list due to her recommendations.  In fact it’s arguable that she steered me in the direction of graphic novels, though someone else recommended Saga.

Getting Through Anxiety – A fellow writer I’m happy to support.  She has one mid-grade/YA novel out Rest in Piece and a book of short stories, Abstract Clarity, which I recently bought.  Like most authors, she’s always in the process of writing more!

By Hook or By Book – Another blogger who has contributed to my growing TBR shelf.  I hold her reviews in extremely high esteem and have even forgone reading some novels, because I trust her judgment that much (and I have way too many things to read).

Space, Time, and Raspberries – She’s currently and quite diligently posting an endearing story about snails, true love, and warfare (yes you read that right) as we speak, and I know I’m not the only person to benefit from her writing wisdom.  I especially appreciate how she inspired this idea 🙂

AmbiGaming – One of my best blogging friends and a brilliant essayist to boot.  I often check my blog subs on my phone during down time at work, but certain people I need to clear out some time for, because I need both the time to read/absorb and formulate an intelligent response.  Anyone whose posts require some is someone you should check out.

Comma Hangover – One of my latest follows and I’ve already added quite a few books due to her always prompt weekly updates and reviews!

Arkham Asylum – My literal maid of honor (no like really in my actual IRL wedding) who’s blog is a genuine and often raw account of her experiences with mental illness.  As someone who faces some of those demons as well, it’s a place of solidarity to both give and receive.

MY 7 QUESTIONS:

  1. What mythical/legendary creature would you choose to be?
  2. What’s your Hogwarts House, if you’ve taken the Pottermore quiz; if not, what Hogwarts House do you think you’d be sorted into?
  3. What’s your favorite/lucky number?
  4. What’s your favorite planet in the solar system?
  5. What’s your favorite fictional weapon?
  6. What’s the last movie you saw in theaters?
  7. What’s your favorite graphic novel?

Always optional and open to everyone (not just those tagged).  Have at it!

The Mystery Blogger Award #3

For the third time this year, I’ve been nominated for The Mystery Blogger Award.  I must be a veeeery mysterious person 😀

This nomination came from Ignited Moth, a lovely blogger whom I’ve been following for over a year now.  She writes about whatever the hell she wants, but usually alights on graphic novels, comics, various other books, movies, her own gorgeous artwork, and the book club she’s in with her notorious partner in crime and best friend Cupcakes and Machetes.  IM nominated me a while ago, but I’m abysmal at accomplishing anything quickly (there’s actually an older nomination sitting in my notes, but it requires more thought than this, and I’m too tired and preoccupied to work on that).

The Mystery Blogger Award #2

I think it would be in supremely poor taste to complain about the awards I’ve been nominated for, because all you lovely people were kind enough to nominate me!  What I can complain about is my lack of time and seeming rudeness is not getting to them until months later, but that’s really just me berating myself, and really shouldn’t be considered a complaint per se.  Regardless, I’m trying to catch up albeit lately, so here I go!

I was nominated for The Mystery Blogger Award by Pokeninja of the blog Nice Job Breaking It, Hero.  She is pretty much an anime and otome expert, and though I haven’t been in the former’s world (alas for time!) nor have I ever really explored the latter’s (though there are now a few games I’d like to look into), I enjoy her site greatly, especially her Melanin Monday feature, which started during Black History Month, but due to popular demand, she continues on a biweekly basis.  Her blog set up is so neat and organized, and she does wrap up posts every week in case you miss something.  If you’re into anime, otome games, and awesomeness, I suggest you check her out!

The Rules:

  • Put the award logo/image on your blog
  •  List the rules.
  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself (I’m skipping this one)
  • You nominate 10 – 20 people (yeah, I’m only doing 7)
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify).
  • Share a link to your best post(s)

What is the Mystery Blogger Award?

*The award was created by Okoto Enigma*

“Mystery Blogger Award”  is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

Pokeninja’s Questions

1. Who is your favorite Power Ranger? (from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers only)

Hm, this is something I’ve never really thought about!  I watched the show when it was first on, and I don’t think I really had a favorite.  I haven’t seen the new movie yet, so I’ll have to put a rain check on this question and get back to you.

2. What’s one item you regret purchasing?

I once commissioned a painting of Aeris and Sephiroth, my favorite ship.  It was the very first time I’d ever commissioned an artist, and I gave very specific details about what I wanted in the picture even providing several images to give them an idea of what I was looking for.  I had to specifically email her looking for updates twice, and when I received the picture, she hadn’t done the major thing I was looking for.  To say I was disappointed would be an understatement, but I didn’t want to be a bitch or be blacklisted from the online artist/commission community, so I paid her and was civil though I did expressed my dissatisfaction.  She said that she would work on correcting the issue, but it’s been over six months, and I haven’t heard anything from her.

I second guess myself though, and wonder if I didn’t make it clear how important that specific thing was, because it was really important.  I wanted to make sure she made their height differential correctly, and she made Aeris way too tall.  Like I have figurines of them, and Sephiroth is at least a foot taller than her, but in the picture, he was two, maybe, three inches taller?  I was uber disappointed, because one of the things I love about them as my OTP is the height differential, and yeah, I know it sounds super petty, but it didn’t fit my mental image of the painting.  It further confirmed my cynical belief that you should never get excited about anything, because I was so excited that I’d found an artist who drew in a style I loved and who was taking commissions.  I could finally get a specific image of my favorite couple.  It’s also spoiled me for taking commissions unless I know I can get a sketch of it first before I spend a single penny.  I paid $150 for a painting I don’t like and haven’t looked at since (it’s just sitting a folder on my computer).  I’m pretty bummed, and I definitely regret it.

3. What’s one show that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it?

I have quite a few go-to shows!  Futurama (which I’m watching right now), American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers.  Yup, they’re all cartoons.  For a non-cartoon Star Trek: TNG.  I love Sir Patrick ♥♥♥

4. Zombies are about to break down your door, you have to defend yourself, the closest item to you is your weapon. What is it and how screwed are you? (the weird question)

Looks like I’m swinging my purse like a champ.  I also have some hand soap.  If those bitches still have eyes, they’re getting foamy soap in them.  I can also call for backup on my iPhone.

5. Who is your favorite megane character?

I’ll admit it: I had to google this term.

Does he count?

He’s technically wearing glasses, but he doesn’t technically need glasses, because he’s perfect; his eyesight is perfect, and he can see in the dark *swoon*  Hrm…trying to think of a bishie who typically wears glasses.  Oh!  Vash from Trigun!

Omg I need to finish watching this anime.  I have no excuse now that Kisscartoon (and it’s backup 9Cartoon) currently exist.  I had a fangirl crush on Vash even though he’s not my normal type (see prior picture), especially when shit got real with him.  There’s something about a typically goofball character turning serious/getting pissed that is so swoonworthy.

My Best Post…

Best post as in how many views?  Best post as in how many shares?  Best post as in the one that stirred up the most comments/discussion?  Per my stats, the post with the most views at 1150 is Cosplay Confessional – Rose Quartz (Steven Universe), which I find really surprising, but my favorite post at 707 views would have to be my Heart of Darkness, Angel of Light – The Defense of Sephiroth.  That essay was a decade in the making, and I poured so much into writing it.  It could possibly be considered a horcrux, since I put a piece of my soul into it.  I didn’t kill anybody though, hm.

My Nominations

I’m going to try to nominate people I haven’t nominated before.  Maybe I should start keeping track of these things…

  1. The Dragon’s Tea Party
  2. Entertain Me!
  3. Orchid’s Lantern
  4. Mosaicca
  5. Falcon Game Reviews
  6. Boba and Games
  7. Forged from Reverie

My Questions

  1. The Doctor shows up in the tardis.  Are you going to the future or the past?  How far would you go in either direction?
  2. Barring black or white, if you had to wear one color for the rest of your life, what color would that be?
  3. Tea or coffee?
  4. Do you prefer urban, rural, or suburban?
  5. What do you think there should be a wiki for that there isn’t already (I guess this is the weird question)?

Thanks again to Pokeninja for nominating me!

The Mystery Blogger Award

Guess what?  It’s…

ketchup_time_mschaI was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by fellow writer and blogger Inkbiotic over a month ago.  It’s time to acknowledge that honor!

My Three Things

  1. I came about the name “The Shameful Narcissist” almost by accident.  I was talking with a coworker years ago and using my false, tongue-in-cheek bravado that I often employ as my brand of humor.  I referred to myself as a “shameful narcissist,” to which he replied, “Don’t you mean a shameless narcissist?”  I responded, “No, because I’m actually ashamed of my narcissism.”  I like the idea and the incongruence (because narcissist generally lack the ability to be ashamed of themselves and the horrible things they’re doing *cough cough*) so I went with it.  I honestly feel that if I wasn’t overly empathatic, I would be a gigantic narcissist, and that feeling what others feels really keeps me in check.
  2. If I had the money and time, I would be a perpetual student.  Due to current events I’ve been thinking about going back to school to study law so that I can advocate for people in danger of losing the protection of their rights, and I’ve also been thinking of studying astrophysics, which seems like utter opposites.  One concerns itself with the often down and dirty nitty-gritty whereas the other is grand, lofty, and about how the universe came into being.  Microcosm/macrocsm indeed, but they’re really just two different ways of trying to make the future better.  I’m reading Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time/The Universe in a Nutshell right now in addition to putting together a information spreadsheet about the 2018 midterm elections, so in a way I suppose I’m trying to do something with both.  I would love to have a Ph. D in English so that I could call myself Dr. Brown.  Hehe, if I studied astrophysics and quantum mechanics, I could make a reference or bad pun to Back to the Future :p
  3. I can’t decide whether or not I love coffee or tea more D:  Coffee helps me stay awake, but tea is so sophisticated.  Help!

Inkbiotic’s Questions

Where did the idea for your blog title come from? What does it mean?
Oh my lord this is hilarious, because I kind of answered this in my own answers above lol.  If you don’t remember, just go back and read that.  I threw “Speaks” on the end of it so you’d all know that I never shut up :p

What are your plans/ambitions for 2017?  I have many plans that have been best laid, and I’m hoping not all of them fail.

  • I want to finished editing The Broken Rose.
  • I want to exceed my reading goal of 15 books (per my Goodreads).
  • I want to start reediting my original, paranormal romance novel The Serpent’s Tale in the hopes that I can get the courage to resubmit it to publishing agents.
  • I want to do the final edit on my short story The Threads of Sorrow so I can start subbing that again, too.
  • I want to upgrade my blog to premium so I can include audio.  It will make my blog more accessible to people who have vision problems or who’d like to be able to “read” my posts at work (I love when other bloggers have the audio options on essays.  It makes it easier to get through more things).  I also like the sound of my own voice (Shameful Narcissist, don’t blame me)
  • I want to edit and post the numerous videos I’ve recorded on my iPhone.
  • I want to record the video reviews I have planned.
  • I want to start the audio recording of Northern Lights (if my stupid voice would behave itself).
  • I want to catch up on my essay writing.

This is a small sampling and I’m sure most of it will spill into next year.

If you could download any file of knowledge to your brain (Matrix-style ‘I know kung fu!’) what would you choose?  Latin.  I want to know Latin.  If I could, I would download a ton of languages: Latin, German, Spanish, Gaelic, Japanese, brush up on my French.  I would love to be a polyglot.

What do you find difficult that other people find easy?  Bouncing back from rejection.  Not taking things personally.  Not being overly sensitive.  I’ve learned in my old age to not blame myself for this (as I was blamed by others), but I do wish I had a thicker skin.  I’m just amazed by people who can have the worst vitriol spit at them, and they still don’t back down.

What modern saying or common language error gets your hackles up?  “I could care less.”  Come on now!  I’ve stopped being a prescriptive grammarian because it smacks of elitism and privilege, but this one is really simple.  If you could care less, it means you do care, which makes no sense.  It’s just two more letters and an apostrophe.  One little syllable.

My Favorite Blog Post

My favorite post…hm, I really love “Heart of Darkness, Angel of Light – The Defense of Sephiroth” for obvious reasons, but I also really adore the more ubiquitous (for the game) essay of “The Seventh Is the Darkest – An FFVII Meta Examination,” which touches on the point of HoD but expands more on why Final Fantasy VII is so dark, delightful, and a parable for our increasingly turbulent times.  To be honest “Darkest” may be better written as it’s more recent, and writers tends to improve with age.  “The Seventh Is the Darkest” is also a potential name for a horror story I want to write, and I just love saying it (I’ve been repeating it to myself for the past five minutes…)

Nominations

Gah, I’m supposed to nominate people.  Well I’m going to be mysterious and combative and not do it. Nope.  You can all feel free to do this tag if you wish to, just make sure you include the link for the original creator of it (not me!) that I linked to above.  I almost always forget to nominate someone and then I feel horrible about it later, so I’m going to take the coward’s way out and nominate no one and everyone at all!  Even if we’ve only interacted a few times, I cherish every single one of you (omg why does that sound so sinister??)

My Questions for You

  1. What’s your favorite brand of bottled water?
  2. What are your favorite video game consoles?  Can be past of present.
  3. What’s your favorite comic book based movie?  Who’s your favorite comic book hero (yep two questions in one, why not)?
  4. Are you a planning writer or an impromptu writer?
  5. Weird Question: What’s your favorite kind of hat?

The Sunshine Blogger Award #2

I have been nominated for another blogger award by the lovely writer of Getting Through Anxiety!  Check out her blog (and the nomination post) here and the blog for her book Rest in Piece here 🙂  Thank you very much for the nomination!  I’m flattered, humbled, and appreciative all at once ♥

sunshine-blogger-award

THE RULES

  • Thank whomever nominates your blog

  • Indulge yourself and answer any questions you feel happy to answer

  • Spread that radiance to some other awesome blogs to keep the light shining brightly.

  • Use these questions or make up your own to ask your nominees

  • Tell your nominees that they have been nominated.

  • Put your preferred logo award on display (I chose this one.  You can Google “Sunshine Blogger Award” and a multitude of images come up).

The Questions

1.) What’s your favorite TV show that you didn’t watch while it was airing, but have come to love? When did you start actually watching it? I’m actually notoriously bad at catching TV shows when they first air; I also often don’t immediately like things at first viewing.  In fact this paradigm extends to not only shows, but movies, books, and video games.  I either don’t like or have no interest in them.  The advantage for this is I’m usually able to binge watch the entire thing whenever I want (of course this also means I have to dodge spoilers), because by the time I get into it, it’s been out for a while.  If the show is still ongoing, I’ll often catch up quickly though.

I really can’t think of anything that’s completely stopped airing so I’ll just mention the ones I caught later.

  • Arrested Development – I watched the first two episodes and absolutely hated it.  I didn’t realize it was supposed to be utterly satirical and a parody of what a functional family was.  Once I picked up that it was dry, witty, sardonic humor, I absolutely loved it.  I started watching when the first three seasons were out.  I need to catch up on the fourth, especially since I’m hearing rumblings that a fifth is coming.
  • Bob’s Burgers – Again I didn’t like it originally, because I wasn’t expecting this dry comedy to be sandwiched between The Simpsons and Family Guy, shows whose comedy is far more overt and absurd, but BB definitely has it’s absurdities with the added bonus of cutting wit from various characters (Louise is my Patronus and Gene’s one liners are to die for).  I seem to have a pattern of needing to give dry comedies more than one chance, because even though it’s my favorite type of humor, I rarely expect anyone to do it well.  I started watching this on Netflix when the first five seasons were already out, and I’ve caught up on 9Cartoon.com, since KissCartoon seems to now be defunct.
  • Doctor Who – How the hell did I forget about this?  I never didn’t have an interest in this, I just didn’t get to it until at least five or six seasons were out.  10/Tennant (how convenient is that??) is my favorite doctor.  Technically, since I started watching the reboot, I did start after the show finished airing.  I still need to catch up on Classic, so I can understand this Tom Baker craze,

2.) What’s a book that everyone raves about and you have no desire to read? Why don’t you want to read it? I can name two series. Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey *shudders*  Granted not everyone raves about them.  Many people understand the major issues with both series, but there are enough flailing fangirls that I believe they count.  I could forgive the poor writing, but I cannot condone anything that glorifies abusive relationships 😡

3.) What do you think is the ‘key to happiness?’ Having enough resources to take care of yourself and your dependents for practicality.  Being able to  reach the self-actualizing top of Maslowe’s Hierarchy of Needs.  Not measuring success by capitalistic goals.  I don’t have a  magical answer to this question, because I don’t believe out society is set up to benefit everyone, but this is too deep of a problem to go into here.

4.) What season best describes you and why? What holiday best describes you? Why?  Hm, winter is my favorite season, but I don’t know if it best describes me, although I can be cold and dark :p  For holiday I’d say Halloween, because it’s “be as your aren’t” night, and IRL I spend a lot of time donning my INFJ extrovert mask that is apparently good enough to convince people I’m outgoing.  Who knew I was this good of an actress.

You can answer the questions above if you like or you can answer the ones below.  Hell, if you’re feeling energetic, you can answer both!

Questions for Nominees

1. What’s your favorite story of all time? Media doesn’t matter.

2. What fictional world would you most want to live in and why?

3. What’s the most beautiful song you know?

4. What’s the most ridiculous/obsessive thing you’ve ever done for fandom/obsession?

Bonus Question: Would you rather have every Wednesday off or a three day weekend/four day work week?

Nominations

*Feel free to ignore if you’ve been nominated/done this already or don’t feel like it.  I’ll usually try to check and see if the person I’m nominating has been already, but a Narcissist can slip*

  • Boba and Games – A sweet blog about tea and video games.  That already has light pouring out the wazoo.
  • Space, Time, and Raspberries – Wasn’t I just talking about the doctor?  Well add raspberries to the quantum mix.  This lovely blogger dazzled and enlightened me with her vow to make something beautiful in response to something sad.  If that’s not spreading sunshine, I don’t know what is.
  • RetroGame Man – He is a man who reviews retro games.  I am a (mostly) old school gamer.  Video games have gotten me through some of my darkest days.  How do you get through the darkness?  With light.
  • Behind the White Coat – She’s a doctor, which means she works tirelessly to help others experience light and life for as long as possible.
  • Evil Wizard, Esq. – At the risk of being destroyed by the omnipotent force of his evilness, I extend this offering.  You see the EWE bared a bit of his soul (?) in admitting to inklings of human feeling.  I know it was merely a ruse to make humanity let its guard down for the final strike, but little does he know I’ve hidden my own doomsday weapon in this blogger award mwahahahaha *kaboom*
  • I also nominate Mr. Panda, LightningEllen, The Well-Red Mage, The Otaku Judge, Retr0pia, Cheap Boss Attack, Defy the Majority, Hungrygoriya, I ♥ Old Video Games, Athene | AmbiGaming, iplayedthegame, The Writing Hufflepuff, The Ink Garden, Cupcakes and Machetes, Ignited Moth, and all my other blogger friends whom I cherish, adore, and have the best conversations with.  I love you all, and it would take quite long to write out a clever little thing for all of you.  Also dear gods I hope I didn’t forget anyone.  How embarrassing would that be?!  I’m not even going to tag you, because that seems to be hit or miss.  You’re all loyal readers, and if you want to do it, please feel free.  If I forgot you (SHAME!) please still feel free.  I’ll die of embarrassment later when I see your responses/posts.

Enjoy!

The Liebster Award #2

Another wonderful blogger has nominated me for the Liebster Award, one Defy the Majority.  I’m humbled and flattered that another person has thought my blog worthy of the honor.  I’ve only been actively blogging for less than two years, but in that short span, I’ve met so many marvelous people and made lasting connections that I wouldn’t trade for the world ♥

liebster

Rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and answer the questions they’ve written for you.
2. Nominate 5 to 11 blogs and give them different questions to answer.

Here are the questions Defy the Majority had for me:

1. What is your favorite video game?

If you’ve been following my blog for a microsecond, you already know the answer to this question.

ffvii

I have too much to say about FFVII to do it justice right here right now, but rest assured the reasons for my love are deep, emotional, and easily heartbreaking.  This game saved my life in more ways than one and inspired me to write and create.  It’s one of the main reasons I started blogging in the first place, because I wanted my own space to talk about my thoughts and interpretations of it.  I’ve written numerous essays and fanfictions, and I probably mention it (whether directly or indirectly) at least once in every single post.

2.  What was the first video game you ever played?

Hm, this is a much harder question than number 1.  I started out playing the ColecoVision, which came with an attachable Atari.  Since I was around the age of three, that time sort of blurs together, so I can’t recall the very first video game I ever played.  It was one of them, and we had quite a few.  I do remember the first game I played on the NES: Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt.

3.  What is the worst video game you’ve ever played?

I could go with the classically awful E.T., but I should try to be original.  Nothing is really coming to mind because I don’t really recall bad games.  If I don’t like them, I don’t play them for long.  I’m sure there’s a memory of some terrible game lurking in my psyche, but it’s not coming to the forefront right now.

4.  Do you have any video game related tattoos.

All of my five current tattoos have to do with Final Fanasy VII!  I have the ankh from Sephiroth’s belt on my chest, a 7 on my left wrist, a VII on my right wrist, the Tree of Life from the Qabalah (which is made up of the Holy Sephiroth) on my right forearm ( I also spent the last ten years studying the Qabalah/Jewish mysticism for the same reason), and the Midgard Serpent around my left ankle.  I have two more tattoos left to get to make seven: the words “Ne me mori facies” from “One Winged Angel” (whose words come from Orff’s Carmina Burana) and a wing down my right arm.  Like I said above and elsewhere, I love FFVII.

5.  Do you play board games?

I sure do!  My friend Siobhan bought me My Little Pony Monopoly for my birthday this year, and I like board games in general.  I was listening to an awesome podcast from Cheap Boss Attack and his friend Counter Attack Radio where CBA talked about Eldritch Horror, which is this horror based board game around the Lovecraftian Cthulhu mythos.  Even though I’m a gigantic wuss puss, I totally want to play that.  It’s on my Amazon wish list if you’re feeling generous :p

Alright so I’m going to be lazy because it’s later than I was hoping to be when I finished this.  I’m nominating everyone.  As in if you’d like to do this, feel free to do it and nominate who you want (or everyone if you so choose).  I know I know; I’m breaking the rules, but that’s how I roll.  It’s pretty easy; I’m kinda roly-poly anyway 😀  Just please tag me when/if you do it, so I can see your marvelous answers.

Here are some questions.

  1. Who is your favorite villain?
  2. What’s your favorite fictional vehicle?
  3. What four languages would you love to be fluent in (got this lovely question from a conversation with the fore mentioned Siobhan)?
  4. What’s your favorite video game ending?
  5. What’s your favorite fairy tale?

Thanks!
