Amish Cinnamon Bread

It’s time for The Shameful Narcissist’s yearly recipe.  I think I missed last year, but I know I did Chocolate Chip Cookies, so I should probably call it bi-yearly.

Fluttershy ShrugUnlike the author, I’m not going to give you my life story; I’m just going to tell you the recipe and my experiences with it.  I have no clue why people feel like we need this especially before the instructions.  Tell me about your grand uncle’s roomate’s dying wish while I have bread in my mouth not before.

Note:  I have just heard from my husband that I am a gigantic hypocrite as I did this with my cookie recipe.  I told him to shut up and we’re both laughing our asses off because he’s not wrong.

The Sunshine Blogger Award #3

They say good things come in threes, and it’s hard to deny that when a spectacular blogger named Triform Trinity nominates you for a blogging award 😀 (I really didn’t plan that…it just worked out perfectly).  TT runs a blog full of gaming wisdom (he was wise enough to know you don’t mess with me when it comes to Sephiroth) and is also one of my near, dear Nintendo Switch friends.  I was worried it had been a really long time since I’d been nominated, but it’s only been a couple of months.  Go me!

Sunshine Blogger Award

I was presented with some very clever questions that I hope my answers of worthy of.

If you could choose one type of food to eat for the rest of your life what would it be? – Cake.  Ahhh I love cake so much.  It’s like my kryptonite lol.  Yellow cake with buttercream icing to be exact.  I’m great at parties…so long as those parties contain that type of cake.  If we’re talking about a non-dessert food, I’d have to say…probably pizza, because there are so many different varieties that you could always think of a way to spice it up so you’d never be bored.

The Christmas Tag

What’s this?

Had to be done.

More Christmas posting?  Well, I wanted to get this in before the big day on Monday (seriously, I have a friend recording her children’s reaction Christmas Morning.  I’ve got an in on a Nintendo Switch opening.  Can. Not.  Wait), and sharing and spreading holiday cheer is one of the many jobs of my alter ego, The Christmas Goth.

Snagged from Ignited Moth, I figured this would be a fun little exercise alongside Creative Christmas hosted by Later Levels 🙂

1.  What is your favorite Christmas film?

Would you believe me if I said it’s been so many years since I’ve seen The Nightmare Before Christmas that I don’t really remember it that much?  I really need to remedy that.

It’s not a film per se, but my absolute favorite Christmas special is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Look at this devilish mofo

I like at the end how his eyes change from yellow with red irises/pupils to “regular” with blue irises, because he’s no longer TEH EVULZ!

I also like the message that’s not entirely religious, but is a bit subtly religious, but only if you’d like to interpret it that way (if that makes any sense).  Christmas isn’t about the tangible, the things, it’s not something that can be stolen, rendering the title more philosophical and making the story itself demonstrative of such rhetoric.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

The Shameful Narcissist cooks??  Sometimes…when I want to eat, don’t want to (can’t afford to) order, and the husband isn’t around :p  This isn’t to say I don’t know how to cook, nor do I dislike doing so, but I’m more interested in the fruits of the labor rather than the labor itself, whereas he’s admitted to enjoying the process.  Also, standing for too long makes me dizzy, which is an irritating reason I don’t normally putter about the kitchen, but I will forgo and endure all of these things around this time of the year to make…

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Damn…looking at this is making me want to make some right now…at midnight…when I have to work in the morning.

You can thank Cupcakes and Machetes for inspiring and reminding me about this, and you should check out her Cookie Day post.  I want those peppermint sugar cookies in my mouth hole.

For my recipe, it’s from my (former though he still works in the same building for the same company just a different department) coworker’s (now) ex-wife who’d make him batches of these and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies to bring in every year around the holidays.  Alas, I don’t know where that pumpkin chocolate chip recipe is, because they were good, too, but this one has become a favorite among my family and IRL friends, and I want to share it with my blogger buddies!

Chocolate chip cookie dough by Breyers.

breyers-ice-cream

Simple question this week because I have all the things to do and I’m super stressed, but I do love this ice cream especially with caramel sauce layered on top.  All the yum.

What’s your favorite type of ice cream?  Do you prefer a particular brand?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!

Halloween Fun Time

This is a little questionnaire I borrowed (stole hehe) from my girl Cupcakes and Machetes.  Tis the season right?  I’ll copy her (again) and post the questions without answers for easier acquisition.  Please feel free to borrow/steal this for your own enjoyment!

  1. What scent sets the holiday mood?
  2. Favorite Halloween Fun Size Candy Bar?
  3. Favorite Halloween movie?
  4. Favorite seasonal sweet?
  5. What toppings are on the perfect candy apple?
  6. What’s your favorite costume you ever wore on Halloween?
  7. Most enjoyable fall tradition?
  8. Pumpkin Patch Hayride or Haunted Hayride?
  9. What song is a must for a Halloween Party Playlist?
  10. Favorite Halloween Monster: Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.?
  11. Cider or Cocoa?
  12. Scary movies or Scaredy cat?
  13. Pumpkin Spice: Yum, or Yuck?
  14. Which is scariest: Spiders, Zombies, or Clowns?
  15. Best find in your Trick or Treat bag?
  16. Worst thing to get in your Trick or Treat bag?

1. What scent sets the holiday mood?

Apple spice hands down is October/fall for me.

2.  Favorite Halloween Fun Size Candy Bar?

Milky way.  Mmmmm so good.  I could eat like 50 of them, which utterly negates the fun size.

3.  Favorite Halloween Movie?

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.  That’s if we’re talking the type of movies you watch around Halloween time.  If so, yes, this is my favorite horror musical.

4.  Favorite seasonal sweet?

I think I covered this in my last Question of the Week!  Mellowcreme pumpkins.  Mmm I can hear my teeth screaming now.

Yes, these guys

5.  What toppings are on the perfect candy apple?

I’m perfectly fine with just caramel.  I can’t think of anything else I would need.

caramel-apple

6.  What’s your favorite Halloween costume?

I have to go with my staple of dark angel.  It’s my fallback if I’m ever in a pinch, and I always have clothes for it available, because I’m a not-so-secret goth.

halloween-2014-dark-angel

7.  Most enjoyable fall tradition?

Planning and dressing up for Halloween.  I love that it’s a holiday you can celebrate regardless of your religion or lack thereof (even though it is based around Samhain).  You’re not obligated to deal with potentially bigoted relatives.  You get to eat candy and drink with your friends all the while dressing up as whatever the hell you want.  Like seriously, what is the downside and why isn’t this a month long event/celebration?

8.  Pumpkin Patch Hayride or Haunted Hayride?

Pumpkin patch.  I have no desire to have the stuffing scared out of me (wuss puss over here), and I love pumpkin picking.

pumpkins

9.  What song is a must for a Halloween Party Playlist?

Thriller is a nonnegotiable.

10.  Favorite Halloween Monster?

I’d probably have to go with Dracula for this one since vampires are pretty high on my list.  Wasn’t I just talking about a hot vampire?

11.  Cider or Cocoa?

Cider all the way.  Not that I don’t like cocoa, but apple spice was my first answer.

apple-cider

12.  Scary movies or Scaredy cat?

Like I said, I’m a big old wuss puss, though of course I can’t make sense and am obsessed with all things Lovecraftian and eldritch.

scaredy-cat

13.  Pumpkin spice: Yum or yuck?

Yum.  I like apple spice better, but I don’t understand the hatred towards pumpkin spice.  It’s a decent flavor and clearly keeps Starbucks in business.

14.  Which is scariest: spiders, zombies, or clowns?

Well clowns seem to be competing for the scariest things out there.  Like wtf is going on with that?  But I’d have to say zombies because the shambling undead just rips through layers of horror all the way down to the uncanny valley.  They can also make you one of them!  Neither of the others one do that…unless it’s a radioactive spider and then you turn into Spider-Man.  Omg…imagine a zombie clown that was bitten by a radioactive spider D:

15.  Best find in your Trick or Treat Bag?

A whole Milky Way candy bar.  None of this fun sized shit :p

milky-way

16.  Worst thing to get in your Trick or Treat Bag?

Dental floss or a pamphlet about how fat kids shouldn’t get candy.  One, I can buy my own dental floss and two, wtf is wrong with you?

Have fun!

What’s your favorite type of Halloween candy?

This might get me some raised eyebrows as many consider these to be in the same vein as candy corn (which gets so much hate and is a candy I like, as well), but my favorite Halloween treat is those mellowcreme pumpkins.

Yes, these guys

Yes, these guys

I love these things even though they’re sweet enough to melt your teeth, but they’re also dangerous because once I open a bag, it tends to disappear.  Thankfully, they only show up from mid-September to Halloween, disappearing until next year.  My sweet tooth can only take so much.

What’s your favorite Halloween candy?  If you’re not really a candy person, what’s your favorite Halloween food or drink?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!

What’s your favorite type of pie?

I had the “What’s your favorite type of cake?” question back in July, and I just recently had ice cream cake since last Friday was a coworkers last day, and my job is keen on having good send offs.  Not everyone likes traditional cake (case in point the now former coworker in question), which is why why went with ice cream.  Pie is more associated with autumn whose equinox has just passed so I thought this an appropriate question.

My favorite type is simple “all American” apple, quotes because apple pie actually predates America despite the popular saying.

Yassss. Get in my mouth.

Yassss. Get in my mouth.

I’m especially partial to the crumble variety, but there’s a French version called tarte aux pommes that I’d love to try one day.

Look at this beautiful thing.

Look at this beautiful thing.

Unfortunately, my preliminary search only locates recipes in French, but I’m sure if I’d be able to find one or an adequate translation of the same.

I also enjoy cherry, peach, lemon (not so much meringue), and other fruit pies.  I didn’t have pumpkin pie until I was well into my twenties, but grew up eating my grandmother’s sweet potato pie, though I’ve never been overly fond of that either.  Pumpkin pie is a less sweet version of sweet potato to my taste buds, and to be honest, neither one is my favorite.  I much prefer fruit pies, and apple is at the top of my list.

What’s your favorite type of pie?  Is it a fruit pie or more savory?  Do you prefer non-dessert pies e.g. chicken pot or mincemeat?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!

What’s your favorite type of cookie?

Years ago I was gifted the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world.  It involves using butter flavored Crisco instead of butter, which means the cookies remain soft for eternity.  Let me see if I can remember it in its entirety…

3/4 cups Butter flavored Crisco (so 3/4 of a stick)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 T Milk
1 T Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
3/4 T Baking Soda
1 T Salt
2 cups Flour
1 cup Chocolate Chips

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (Fahrenheit).

You mix the Crisco and brown sugar.  Add the milk, vanilla extract, and eggs.  Then the baking soda and salt, and finally the flour a little at a time.

For the chocolate chips you can use all milk chocolate, but I like to do half milk and half white.  I wouldn’t recommend all white since I think that makes the cookies a bit too sweet.  You can also make these cookies without chocolate chips, and they’re still just as good.

The recipe called to bake them for 10 minutes, but I knocked that down to 7.  Remove them from the oven and let them sit on top.  The residual heat will bake them a little more, leaving you with gooey goodness.

I don’t know if I can say that chocolate chip is my favorite type of cookie, but I love this recipe.  I tend to only make them around Christmas time, because they’re so dangerously good.

There are also these guys…

Lofthouse cookies omg

Lofthouse Cookies omg

I don’t make these; I get them from my local supermarket.

And this weekend I decided to make this recipe for cake batter fudge, which I wholly blame Cupcakes and Machetes for due to her Peanut Butter Fudge recipe.  How DARE you??!!!

cake-batter-fudge

It’s so good and way too easy to make.  I was going to do cookie dough fudge, which would’ve been perfect for this post, but that was more complicated, and I’m a lazy baker.

What’s your favorite type of cookie?  Do you typically make it during a particular time of the year or is the entire cycle fair game?  Is there another dessert/confection you prefer?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!
