I’m always glad when I’m not the only one who sees similarities in paradigms as this week’s artwork attests.   I initially started thinking such due to this picture,

because it just brought the “lord of death and flower maiden” paradigm into sharp relief.  I want to do a rehashing of the myth myself at some point with Hades as more of a winter king, but that’s a song for another day.

Author’s Note: This chapter is pretty much the pure smut I promised.  It’s actually much lighter than what I had originally.  I will eventually post the more X-rated version (though this one is still certainly MA).  Editing smut is much more difficult than editing regular romance.  There’s a fine line between decent erotica and unintentional hilarity, and I hope I fall on the side of the former.  Don’t laugh at me too hard if I don’t.

Aeris changes her mind to delightful results about something she once feared.

Artwork of Aeris and Sephiroth. Aeris is right side up on the left looking at Sephiroth who is upside down on the right.  Chapter 26 Picked by a Rose is in the upper left corner.

The winter would ravage with thick spilling snow that silver would still always best.  He went out more often than Aeris, of course, to mayoral duties’ demand.  It was less, though, than summer for little required immediate response.  His tasks were more to avail his aid for any pressing concern, and monsters of course, always that rigor that kept his instincts sharp.

When Sephiroth left, whatever the need, his thoughts were of always his Aeris.  The joy that would beam through his heart at return that gave the rents a sweeter purpose.  It spread through his veins and bled through his skin, his flower’s ecstasy.  At sight of me…her once murderer.  I don’t want to leave yet I do.  Knowing her presence ever awaits me makes Heaven’s Gate utter truth.

I finished the first edit some time last week and added in all of the additional text I felt was necessary.  I am going to do a move explicit version (maybe I’ll password protect it or something, giving it out to anyone who requests?  Idk I’ll figure it out lol), but it’s not like this version is tame by any means :p  I’m on vacation for the next two weeks, and my goal is to finish editing and posting the rest of the story as I only have one chapter left after this.  I love this piece and I still have a lot of offshoot story ideas to explore with it, but I really want to have the main story up prior to November so I can focus on NaNo, plus I’d like to re-edit and start looking into self-publishing my short story in the interim and prep for NaNo as well.

The artist of this week’s pic is a long time favorite of mine.  She, too, writes Aeriseph and is a talented illustrator to boot.  Her story Border of Taboo is actually available in physical format on Amazon (???) which…is now making me very curious how she managed to avoid copyright issues with Squeenix???  I may have to investigate this.

Aeris learns to cherish the beauty of winter even as she worries over the new aspect of their relationship.

The image of a white rose with dark around the edges. The words “Chapter 25 Winter’s Rose” are in the top left corner.

The sky and the shore had become one, blended to winter white.  Not even the sea dare disturb monochrome.  It murmured within its grey shroud.  Frost painted lace upon the large window leading out to the balcony.  A winter tableau scattering light as the day waxed coldly around.

Heaven’s Gate guarded a far different world where the little Cetra still slept.  Sunk in her own sea of blankets and pillows where the mattress couched her within warmth.  Delicate fingers curled upon softness, one set held near her face.  Thick blankets had been pulled up to her ear, though chestnut swam over the folds.  Behind soft shut lids, she clutched at dream webs that made her slightly frown.  Not quite a whimper escaped from her lips, and she was happy to just let them go.

Just to ensure no dark would catch her, Aeris opened her eyes.  That green’s bright was summer unstolen, though winter still ruled the air.  Not here.  She yawned, deliciously warm and wriggling with delight.  She blinked several times, always to ensure that this life was the truth and no vision, but it was more a formality now.  Two hundred and seventy-one days.  It’s been that long since last I was raped and beaten.  The maid slipped a hand over her slender neck with its shiny scar circled around.  The only chains allowed there were of her own placing, bearing jewels of adornment not harm.  Her wrists and ankles had them, too.  My entire body’s a scar.

I’m going back and forth on whether or not I need to do a third edit.  I did make some changes in the second, but I can’t decide if they were major enough for at least another read through.  Idk.  I have started looking for potential chapter covers, so it seems like my brain is telling me that’s what I should be doing lol.  I do still need to write the summary, but whether I do a final edit or not,  I should have the chapter posted before the end of the week.

Aeris discovers a simple solution to what she believed insurmountable.

Artwork of a mostly naked Sephiroth. Either his silver hair or a similarly covered sheet is covering his crotch while wrapped around his legs. His left arm is lifted so his fingers are in his hair and he has a seductive expression (this…was really difficult to do an image description for haha *blush*)

The winter that shadowed his skin marked the Whispers in covers of endless snow, but no one here suffered and none ever froze, least of all his tiny flower.  She bloomed in the whirling, shielded from cold by her angel and Heaven’s Gate.

Aeris loved watching the shimmering dance of winter light conquering sands.  Where one white ended to other’s begin, the Cetra did try to divine.  Sitting and sipping hot chocolate or tea, as she stared out the seated window.  If Sephiroth joined her, she’d climb on his lap, giggling to perpetual sigh.  Humming to wiggle, she’d tilt back her head, lighting emerald with equal desire.

Author’s Note: I’m sorry for this chapter’s length.  I usually try to keep them around 15-20 pages, but there was just no good place to cut this.  Hopefully, it flows well, and you don’t feel overwhelmed.  Thanks ♥

Sephiroth’s lies finally catch up to him for he cannot hide from an Ancient’s dreams.

A fan art of Sephiroth and Aeris/Aerith. Sephiroth is kneeling in front of her with his arm around her waist and his head right below her breast. His face is buried in her stomach and his eyes are closed. Aeris has her hand on the top of his head, and she’s looking down at him with a compassionate expression and slight smile, while his one black wing stretches off into the top left and out of frame. The words “Chapter 23 Written in Her Skin” sit in the top middle. They are pink.

It was another dark eve when the snows fell hard, burying the shore in white. Their veranda and stairs were wholly covered, and the Whispers slept in the weft of cold tears.  But inside the Gate was cozy and warm as ever and always it’d be. The little Cetra slumbered in peace upon her protector’s lap. Up in his office where snow brightened darkness, but emerald eyes cut through it more. His screen dually dulled as he did mundane work, and he smiled as he rubbed tiny fingers.

In the midst of strange dreams, she’d squeeze his great hands and his heart hurt to his murmured name. She wore a white dress.  It was her preferred color, the general had come to know.  This one’s bow was in the front, starting beneath her breast.  It fell just above where the skirt did end, and the straps were as thin as her fingers.  Sheer over silk and whiter than winter to complement smooth, rosy skin.  Sephiroth thought it more than fitting.  She was purity eternal.  Aeris might bite her lip to deny, but he would hear none of it.

“What happened to you was never your fault.  It changes no ounce of your innocence.  There is no act you could perform to sully that perfect state, and such filth cannot taint you.  What one does to another reflects on the actor…never the victim, my rose.”  The general bowed his head afterwards, but Aeris kissed him with tears in her eyes.
