The Rising Author Tag

What’s your current WIP about + what are you working on with it?

We’ll do my original story and not¬†The Broken Rose¬†even though I’m not technically working on it right now, but I hope to return to it soon.¬† The working title is¬†The High Archon¬†changed from The High Lord, though it could always change again.¬† It’s about a young woman who’s betrothed to the de facto ruler of the world in a sort of Belle Epoque/Golden Age era, though that doesn’t prevent something horrible from happening to her a year before she goes to fulfill the betrothal.¬† The act changes her entire life view and potential trajectory, and the novel is about the incongruence between how she thinks she’ll be treated and how she is.¬† It’s a…shakeup (I hope) to typical paradigms, though it has a lot of the things I love to both read and write about in stories.

Right now I have a little bit of the beginning written from last years NaNoWriMo, but that might be scrapped in its entirety so I can begin again.¬† I need to figure out how I can establish the world but jump right into the plot.¬† I’m not going to get rid of what I’ve already written (perish the thought!), but I may have to rearrange the order of things a little bit.¬† I hope to work on it before November this year if possible, but if not I’ll do what I did last year and take a blogging hiatus to work on it.

Show your WIP’s aesthetic in images or words (or both)!

She doesn’t have elven ears, but that’s almost exactly how I picture her face.

Question of the Week: 6/19/16

<–Question of the Week: 6/12/16¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Question of the Week: 6/26/16–>

The Question of the Week is posted every Sunday and will consist of a question followed by my answer and explanation to the same.  Some questions will only require a simple answer that could potentially be followed by an explanation.  Many questions will be writer oriented, but not all.  Everyone is encouraged to answer in the comments and discussions/follow up questions are more than welcome!

What’s the longest thing you’ve ever written?

I’m asking this question this week, because I’m lazy and have a lot of catching up to do.¬† I wanted a really easy answer, and since¬†I just finished¬†The Broken Rose¬†I can answer with that.¬† It’s nearly 275k words, making it the longest thing I’ve ever written by far.¬† It’s even longer than my paranormal romance novel¬†The Serpent’s Tale¬†even if I add up both of its parts (256,117 words).¬† This is of course prior to editing, but I doubt the word count will go down that much, especially since I’m planning on adding at least one chapter.

Now I’m going to go back to setting up my new laptop and organizing my bookshelf through Goodreads.

What’s the longest things you’ve ever written?¬† Is it creative piece, an essay/analysis, an article, or something else?¬† Is it something you’ve written recently or did you write it years ago?

I look forward to your answers in the comments!

This week’s picture came to mind when I needed a nice outfit to describe.¬† I purposely looked it up to do so.¬† You can let me know if I did it justice in this week’s quote farther below.

I am overjoyed to announce that last night I decided The Broken Rose was finally complete.¬† If that seems an odd phrasing then allow me to explain.¬† I was working on the story late Thursday night, trying to decide whether I’d push through and just finally finish this thing.¬† I’d started on what would’ve been an epilogue of sorts. TBR has what I call “letter” chapters where Aeris writes letters to herself in an effort of reclamation.¬† There were two chapters where this occurs, and I was planning on making the epilogue the magical three.¬† However, the next day upon reading and reflection, I realized nothing would be added to the story.¬† Epilogues and their counterparts prologues are dicey at best.¬† They should be used sparingly and only when absolutely necessary.¬† I realized that the information I’d be adding was already implied in the narrative, and not only that, but I loved the final line of the final chapter.¬† So it was on Friday as I read through my prior day writings that I concluded I was done.

Bows on the Toes

White slipper shoes with bows on the toes are a major staple of Aeris’s wardrobe in this future she sees as surreal¬† Shoes of this type are very popular with weddings, but I think they’re quite adorable and more than fitting for an innocent flower girl to wear.

Content Warning: Discussions of rape/sexual assault to follow.

Even though The Broken Rose is a fanfiction that only a small fraction of people will read, the majority off them being not only fans of FFVII, but also the specific Aeriseph pairing, this week has made it more relevant to me, because this story has pulled rape to the forefront.¬† I linked to the survivor’s letter because she is the person whose words most need to be heard.

Hair StylesAeris’s long hair quite lends itself to numerous types of styles.¬† This is not to say that short hair doesn’t do the same thing, but I tend to find more variety in kind for long hair in search, though I believe this is a societal slight.¬† Be that as it may, researching hairstyles for her is another enjoyable task.¬† As mentioned before I love luxury, fanciness, and all that’s ornate.¬† Though the styles I found were for more formal settings, I’d imagine for her these would be every day.¬† Yes, including tiaras and such.¬† Sephiroth would shower her in luxury.¬† He has the means within this story, and by all means would readily do so.¬† One of the many things she’s sadly forgotten is how to even braid her own tresses, but lucky for her, her protector’s fingers are deft, and he’s no stranger to over long hair.

My word count appears low this week, but nothing could be farther from the truth.¬† I wrote a lot, but the majority was notes, which I spent my time last night organizing.¬† I, unfortunately, can’t speak of what exactly I wrote as I’m very close to the end.¬† I’ve been working on the denouement to this story for quite an extensive time.¬† Well…I don’t know if I’d call it that since what I’m writing is more than the aftermath.¬† Though it is a common thing in numerous narratives, for this one, I need more resources.

Kitchen Collae

I needed visuals for luxurious kitchens, and these are two of the most.¬† This work even more than Northern Lights has let me live out such fanciful dreams.¬† The estate (whose name I’m still keeping hush) definitely has marble counters.¬† I like the left picture a bit more than the right as I also imagine marble floors.¬† I have a very clear idea in my head of how their living room appears along with the ornate stairs.¬† Maybe next week I’ll have a picture of that.¬† Maybe next week I’ll be finished.¬† Suffice it to say to her it’s a “palace,” and I want it to look the part.
