Millennia ago, mankind fled the earth’s surface into the bottomless depths of the darkest oceans. Shielded from a merciless sun’s scorching radiation, the human race tried to stave off certain extinction by sending robotic probes far into the galaxy to search for a new home among the stars. Generations later, one family is about to be torn apart in a conflict that will usher in the final race to save humanity from a world beyond hope. Dive into an aquatic fantasy like none you’ve ever seen before, as writer Rick Remender (Fear Agent, Uncanny Avengers) and artist Greg Tocchini (Last Days of American Crime) bring you a tale mankind’s final hour in the cold, deathly dark of the sea.

Low is about the sun going super nova far sooner than expected, and humanity taking refuge beneath the waves, while sending probes out into space to search for a new home.  It has more of a Rapture (BioShock) vibe to it insofar as there’s a city under the sea as opposed to SOMA’s derelict facility horror.

Per Remender’s foreword, the author was inspired by our sun’s eventual violent death, which will scorch the Earth beyond recognition (if humanity hasn’t already), and how if we don’t discover a new home among the stars (or a way to stop it), our species will be rendered extinct.   While this time is billions of years away, it’s still a reminder that everything is temporary and nothing ever lasts: a recipe for nihilism if ever there was.  Of course the ephemeral qualities of the universe could imbue it with meaning for some, though when you recall the nature of memory and how there needs to be someone to remember, this argument falls apart.

Progress: Chapter 2 – Next Mission (finally)

I finished all the leveling last Friday, and I’m finally back in the game!  I had 1 day and 4 hours left to kill (in game) before my next mission, and that went by really quickly  Doing certain things eats up hours, and leaving the school for any reason drops you down three.  I took a task in Corsi Cave to find something called a Pretty Pelt for someone in the Armory, and within the environs I found a girl whose boyfriend had been turned into a frog.  Unfortunate.  According to what I googled, I can’t do anything for her at the moment, but apparently, she shows up randomly, and you can perform tasks for her.  I also found one of those tags for the moogle who’s looking for them.  Oh!  Speaking of moogles, they’re all wearing costumes!!  I guess it’s for Halloween so the game must have some internal mechanism for knowing what time of the year it is.  It’s really cute.  The last thing I did before Mission Day was accept an invite to this creepy scientist’s lab…where, for lack of a better term, I was immediately roofied…twice.  Thankfully, nothing bad happened (that I know of…) and I received a mega-ether out of the deal.

Progress: Chapter 2 – All the leveling

All of the leveling continues!  I’m free to play PS4 games every Tuesday and Friday now, since my husband bowls the.  I was going to attempt to get up early one of the days on the weekend, but that’s just not happening, and by the time I do wake up, he’s usually immersed in Destiny 2.  But now that Tuesdays and Fridays are open, I’m going to use them for Type-0.

I have four characters left to level to 99 I believe.  I did one tonight, and I could’ve done another, but it takes 30-45 minutes, and, as I’m sure you’re aware of by now, I have much to do in my evenings.  Maybe I’ll get lucky and have some time this weekend to finish that up so I can continue with the game!

Progress: Chapter 2 – All the leveling

The coliseum finally opened, and I’ve been doing nothing but level my characters thanks to a tip from Cheap Boss Attack.  It’s extremely easy once you know what to do, but a bit tedious, so I typically turn down the TV’s volume and listen to a podcast or YouTube.  As of a few minutes ago, half my characters are on Level 99.   It takes about a half hour for each character.  My husband thinks it’s cheating, but I couldn’t care less.  One of the obstacles to my playing action RPGs is the action part.  It’s well known that I prefer turn based games, so anything I can do to make an ARPG easier is a positive in my book.  This way I can enjoy the puzzle and story aspects, though I did breed a pair of chocobos who produced an egg before I started messing around with time, and that little chick is going to be SO confused.

Progress: Chapter 2 – Second mission complete

I’m getting more used to the battle system, and I’ve finally figured out how to collect phantoma.  I did the first mission again since I completely failed in picked any of that up.  The second mission was weird.  You had to direct troops between two different cities, Corsi and Aqvi, but I managed to liberate them and keep McTigue (the first city) from falling under Empire control again.  I picked up some random (and expensive) gifts in Corsi, found both l’Cie Crystal lockets (I currently have three since I found the one from McTigue prior), though I was a bit stumped about the woman looking for her puppy in Aqvi.  I thought that was the side question, and I’m still not sure if there’s something else with that.  Why have her ask you to locate the dog if it’s not going to be a mission?  I’m probably going to play some more tonight when I get home from hanging with friends at the diner with the hopes that the coliseum will open up soon.  I have been directed to breed chocobos though…now why does THAT sound familiar 😉
