There needs to be a third edit, but the second is easier.  I’ve mostly smoothed out the, er, more awkward parts I’d say?  At the very least this second editing is taking less time.  I’m one session away from finishing it up.  If the third goes well, I should be posting it within the week.

I don’t want to tell you how long it took me to locate this picture, but I feel like my embarrassment should be known.  The fact is, I was looking for another picture at the time, and I know I spotted this one, so when I started this post, I thought “Oo, I can use that one,” and then proceeded to not be able to find it again even through I went through the folder on Deviant Art that had it no less than four fucking times.  I also went through my Pinterest pics at least three before finally switching to my phone to find it so I could search for the artist’s name.  It’s easier on the phone, I think, because the screen is smaller.  My shit brain will get distracted while I’m looking for something, so even if it’s there, I’ll scroll right past it without picking it up, and it’s just…so…exhausting.  I’m pretty sure I have ADHD among other things, so I’m constantly multitasking without even wanting to multitask.  I have to keep my mind busy at all times, usually to avoid obtrusive thoughts, and that gets cumbersome when I actually need to do things like this.  Coffee helps…sometimes.

This chapter has some interesting challenges, and I may end up with two versions of it.  I saw someone do that once on Fanfic.net.  I was talking with The Ink Garden about my wacky timelines/AU scenarios, but it was only scratching the surface.  There are more branches than a tree, which is…kinda fitting when I think about it.  I’m trying to add any additional text in my first edit instead of after, because it just doesn’t make sense to do any kind of editing prior to including additions.

The general makes a desperate confession, yet finds even more “sins” to mourn.

Sephiroth, dressed in his typical black and silver outfit, is kneeling in front of Aeris with one arm around her and his other against her skirt. His one black wing rises behind him off the frame. The top of his head is at the level of her chest. One of her hands is in his hair and the other is on the back of his neck. She is wearing her regular pink dress with short, red jacket. She’s looking down at him in compassion, and he has his eyes closed with a pained and contrite look on his face.

He opened no door for fear that she slept, and the sound would drive her to pure terror.  She’d been awakened too many times with horror invading her flesh.  That sweet chestnut head with a rightful crown made the fallen delight in his choice.  His great wing shadowed the peak of the sun, as the light broke against feathers black.  He glanced to corruption with slits chilled in sorrow, but she needed to see him for true.  The sword in his grasp bore only scant blood, and Sephiroth clenched his jaw tight.  I cannot approach her with what bears her death.  I cannot…but I must.  She deserves to see me, as I truly am, and the sword and I are kin.  It can’t be dissolved, our deadly connection, my blood fills its steely veins.  Yet he could not bear to near innocence, bringing that which had taken her life.  He wanted to sweep her into his arms, and bask in her pure summer scent…before he so told her all his misdeeds.  All of them.  My time is done.  My reprieve must finally end.  She has to know my truth.  What has protected her all of this time is nothing but her foul destroyer, playing at penitence, asking atonement.  There’s no absolution for me.  The greatest of generals bowed his head, and the waves of his guilt stirred sweet sleeper.

Progress: Third edit of Chapter 21

I think this third edit might be my last.  I’ve been getting more comments/kudos on AO3, probably because more stuff has come out about the Remake.  I notice an uptick in interactions whenever that occurs, which is pretty cool.  What I find interesting is I think Northern Lights is the more superior story, but this one gets more interaction.  Maybe because it’s still ongoing.  I hope with the audio of NL I’ll get more interactions with that, but I’ll discuss that below.  Speaking of audio, this came out this week, and I can’t stop listening to it.

Progress: Second edit of Chapter 21

I spent about an hour on Friday going over one paragraph, trying to figure out how to make it work, finally consigning it to my next editing session.  Then when I went back to it yesterday, for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why the hell I didn’t just delete certain shit, and this is why it’s often prudent just to step away for a little while and come back with a fresh mind.  My problem is I hate unfinished business, and I hate leaving issues if I know they’re there, so it’s a tug-of-war between these two ideals.  This chapter will need a third edit, which isn’t surprising in the least.

I may just finish the first edit this week.  Usually when the first edit takes a while, the second one is easier…usually.  If I add a lot I still have to smooth that out with the next edit.  If I get it posted by the end of the month, I’ll be happy.
