*uncontrollable fangirl screaming* omfg I am obsessed with this game.  I’ve fallen into a new fandom y’all.  I am so Team Edgeworth it’s not even funny, and yes I ship him and Phoenix because the sort of Foe Yay sexual tension is AMAZING.  That freaking nerd became a defense attorney in order to run into Edgeworth again.  And of course OF COURSE you know I’m crushing hard over my extra, broody, forlorn, impeccably dressed, grey/silver haired hot prosecutor because OF COURSE I AM.

I’ve only played the prologue so far, but I love it.  The humor in it is going to be fantastic.

What I DNFed

Title: Doki Doki Literature Club

Doki Doki Literature Club coverDate Started: 3/17/19
Date DNF: 4/16/19

So…I “finished” the game insofar as a major event happened and the game “ends.”  Left there befuddled, I restarted, and NOPED right out of there quicker than a photon.  Oh HELL no.  What happens is one of my biggest fear triggers, and I do not fuck with that.  I wound up watching a breakdown by The Game Theorists, and I’m glad I chose to DNF because I wouldn’t be able to use my computer ever again, and how would I do these fascinating posts if I don’t have my lappy?  Let’s just say if you’re into horror/meta-horror narratives DDLC will not disappoint.

I’m getting to the creepy part.  I found something out about two of the girls.  Even though the latter information hasn’t been explicitly stated yet, I recognize the blatant signs since it’s something I’ve done myself.

I say I’m finished, but I’m actually playing through it again to catch some of the stuff I missed.  Now that I have a better idea of where all to go, I’m going to try to fill out my journal more.  I’m also way better at playing the bass this time around lol.

I don’t think anyone could deny that this is a beautiful game with a magnificent soundtrack, excellent voice acting  (provided by the creator and his spouse), and stunning visuals.  It speaks to the creator, David Wehle’s cinematic background, which may also be the reason the game suffers from some significant logistical issues, namely the jumping mechanic.  Wehle isn’t (or wasn’t) a game designer.  It’s necessary for certain progression and to gather all the collectibles for you completionists out there.  The story, while nothing new, is still heartfelt and relatable, being about loss, regret, and memory.  How the visual representation of the fox searching for her cubs intertwines with the narrator coming to terms with his grief is up for discussion and interpretation.

Final Fantasy Character Assessments: Celes Chere

Final Fantasy Character Assessments

<–Squall Leonhart

*Potential spoilers for everything involving the topic character and their game.

CW: Discussions of depression and suicide.

Name: Celes Chere
Game: Final Fantasy VI
Job: Imperial General
Age: 18/19

Major Arcana: The Hanged Man – Picking Celes’ card was so much harder than I originally thought it would be.  I’d pegged her as either The High Priestess or The Empress since those are the typical female defaults, but Celes isn’t a “typical female” (whatever that means anyway).  She’s a woman general, a typically masculine job, and she’s young, really young.  Everything about her seems to exist as a unity of opposites to Terra, the other main female character.  She’s heavenly (Celes as in “celestial”) to Terra’s “earth;” ice to Terra’s fire; and she’s a high ranking military officer to Terra’s bondage.  Of course Celes is bound herself even before her arrest, which is proven by her very imprisonment .  She acted on her conscious after disillusionment with the Empire and wound up sentenced to death.  Her entire existence, occupation, and powers were entirely predicated on the Empire’s whims, but it isn’t until she defies Imperial orders that she understands that…and realizes that even someone completely raised and indoctrinated into a regime can still be themselves.  There’s an ineffable quality to a person that can override even the deepest programming if pushed to the limit.
