What I Purchased

  • Later Daters – $5.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Sudoky – $0.69 @ Nintendo eShop

What I Demoed

  • Bravely Default II – I absolutely loved this.  It’s so cute and almost fully voice acted.  I loved Elvis with his Scottish brogue, Adelle rocking an Irish lilt, and Gloria’s refined RP.  I’ll probably drop the $60 or so this costs when it comes out because I am a thot for Squeenix.
  • The Almost Gone – I’m not sure how I feel about this.  The directions are a bit confusing since it goes room to room.  It’s also a little creepy with the weird ambiance background, and I jumped at the fridge part (Fridge Horror anyone?).  I get what it’s trying to do, but this may be a watch for me.

What I Finished

Title: The House of da Vinci II
Series Title: The House of da Vinci
System: Kindle (Android)

Date Started: 6/4/20
Date Finished: 6/30/20

Sequel bait is sequel bait, but it’s absolutely cool.  The end is obviously not the end, and I”m hoping the next one comes out soon.  It’s almost like numerous games in one due to the variety of puzzles, and I can readily admit I solved some of them on sheer luck alone.

Date Finished: 4/11/20
Date Completed (100%): 6/3/20

I finished finished this during the two day power outage I mentioned in my latest SOTR post.  I only had one Asinine Attorney case left.  Those were interesting and fun.  More lighthearted and silly than the normal cases, not that AA isn’t silly sometimes, but the stakes weren’t nearly as dire.  Both Phoenix and Apollo had one, so I did Polly’s the other day.  At this point I am entirely caught up with Phoenix Wright, so I don’t know what I’m going to do.  Are they making more?  Are they going to make more?  Should I play Professor Layton now?   Should I google if they’re making more AA games?  *googles*  Nothing new since April 2019??!!?  It says they are making a new game, but there are no details.  I…guess we have to wait.

What I Purchased

  • Picross S4 – $9.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Just Dance 2020 – $39.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Picross S – $7.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • Picross S3 – $9.99 @ Nintendo eShop
  • The House of da Vinci – $4.99 @ Amazon

So many Picross games.  I love Pic-a-Pix and this is pretty much the game Pic-a-Pix is based on so it was an easy sell.  I think I actually like it a little better than Pic-a-Pix, and I especially love the color puzzles.  I’ve gotten used to the Mega Picross puzzles after a fashion.  I’m just hoping they have DLCs for this, too, since eventually I’m going to run out of them.  The House of da Vinci 2 is similar to The Room, so if you like that, you’ll more than likely enjoy this.

What I Obtained

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake – $59.99 @ Amazon (I’m still waiting for it to arrive in the mail, but Amazon assures me it’ll be here today.  I won’t receive the copy from Squeenix until Tuesday…which would be ridiculous if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic.  I’ll give the big S a pass)

What I’m Playing

Watching Olizandri do his play through made the itch too strong.  I’d been thinking about replaying this, but wanted to stick to my order.  Then I considered I’d be playing the FFVII Remake before I replayed the original, and I hatched another plan: play the Remake then replay the original, while at the same time playing this and writing the review/analysis for FFVI.  It’s Final Fantasy all the time here in the house of TSN, but who’s surprised by that?

Just like the prior AA games, this one has a compelling overarching story.  The writer/writers of these knows what they hell they’re doing.  All of the secret connections and inner workings are just amazing.

I enjoyed this, and the only reason I can think for it’s lower rating than the orig trig is it’s different?  But it’s not really different?  It has a different main character, but Apollo is just as adorable, goofy, and unlucky as Phoenix lol.

Games Alive: 1980-2017

The Well-Red Mage asks: “What’s your favorite game every year you’ve been alive?”  I’m one of the last to answer, because I’m always late to these types of parties.  I’ve seen plenty of “Favorite Game” posts, but never one quite like this, and it was both challenging and enjoying to put together over the last two months.  I’m one of the oldest people to respond, meaning I have quite a lot of years to go through, so without further ado…

1980 – Pac-Man

This one was more difficult than I’d like to admit, but there weren’t too many games I could draw from at this point in time, which led me to this classic among classics.  I wasn’t very good at this game, but if you stick your finger in your ear and wiggle it around, I think you’ll hear something familiar 😀

1981 – Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong game coverBack when Mario was merely Jump Man and Pauline was a kidnapping victim, long before she was the mayor of New Donk City, there was this arcade classic.  I was better at this than Pac-Man; I’ve always been better at platforming than avoiding random enemies.

Final Fantasy Type-0 (DNF)

More video game reviews can be found here.

Series: Final Fantasy/Fabula Nova Crystalis
Genre:
JRPG/Fantasy
Developer: Square Enix
Release Date: October 27, 2011

The cover of Final Fantasy Type-0System: PlayStation 4

Final Fantasy Type-0 (formerly Final Fantasy Agito XIII) opens on a graphically violent note.  Final Fantasy has always been known for its beautiful, chill-inducing openings, and Type-0 does not disappoint in this regard.  The beginning scenes display the horrors of war in bloody relief, utilizing the full power of the PlayStation 4.  The series has never shied away from such a topic, and in fact, all of the games center around war/rebellion in some way, but Type-0 did not mince words or sight, and it was even more harrowing considering these were children slain with neither mercy nor impunity given for youth.

The “secondary” series is Fabula Nova Crystalis, the same as Final Fantasy XIII (which I’m planning to play this year).  It translates into “new tales of the crystals” and also contains Final Fantasy XV.  The “crystal” is a ubiquitous structure throughout the series, present in all iterations though arguably more hidden in some (e.g. Final Fantasies VI, VII, & VIII).  Analogous in Type-0 with the “four lights of hope,” they’re represented by a specifically hued animal: White Tiger, Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, and Red Phoenix.  The White Tiger’s attack on another faction nullified their crystal, which is the catalyst for the events of the game.

Final Fantasy Friday: Creepy Caverns

Final Fantasy Friday

Hat trick of creep this week.  Bonus: it rhymes, too!  Also  reminder that this will be the last Final Fantasy Friday post until December.  I’m going to make an official announcement post about what’s going to be suspended throughout November, but I figured a reminder in the final one isn’t a bad notion either.

I’m currently recovering from anesthesia.  No, I didn’t get bionic limbs (though I did ask for them), just something weird but simple that required your favorite Narcissist to be knocked out.  Never fear, I woke up even more beautiful and amazing than ever, and when I returned home, there were offerings to my greatness at my door.  The peasants do love me ♥

I usually try to tie the week’s question with something going on, and I suppose waking up from brief, medically induced unconsciousness could be considered coming out of a dark cave so….
