The Gamer Confessions Tag

I can’t remember the last time I did a game related tag if I ever have, and this one comes from one of my favorite bloggers Drakulus whom I helped convert into a Final Fantasy fan yass.  Nah, he’s an open minded guy who, along with other blogger buddies, has helped convince me to give FFXV a chance.  ANYWAY, this looked like fun so I snagged it.

A game everyone loves that you can’t stand

“Can’t stand” is kind of harsh.  I don’t hate this game, but I certainly didn’t love it as much as I thought I would.  It seems like something anyone into Zelda would adore, but I just couldn’t get past the annoying bug helper character and the weird vocalizations.  I loved the wolf though.

What I Played

Title: Octopath Traveler
System: Nintendo Switch

Octopath Traveler coverDate Started: August 11, 2018

Well…I gave into peer pressure, summoned my magical credit card, and bought Octopath Traveler a few weeks ago.  I…regret…NOTHING.  This game is amazing and worth the high price of new Nintendo Switch releases.  The sprite graphics are perfect for an old head like me, but I’m shocked at how much I love the English voice acting.  Usually, I opt for Japanese with subtitles if I have the choice, but something told me to give the English a try, and I’m glad I did.  It’s not fully voiced, only certain scenes, but nearly early line has some sort of vocalization in at the start.

Final Fantasy VI cover imageDate Started: June 2, 2018

I’m encouraged to play this because Hungry Goriya has been streaming her first play-through of it for the past month or so.  Even though I started in June, she’s probably past me right now lol.  It’s always a fun time with good chat, so I’d highly recommend  you follow her!

This is not supposed to be a once a month post, but the last scheduled one was on 7/10, which is my big brother’s birthday and we went out to dinner for that.  By the time I got home it was really late and I was really tired, but he’d had a great time with a bunch of his friends and family, and that’s all that matters.  If I wasn’t so fat and sleepy, I wouldn’t have neglected you fine people, but now you get to see what I’ve been up to for the past month.

Title: The House of Da Vinci
System: iPhone (8)

The House of Da Vinci coverDate Started: June 25, 2018
Date Finished: Unknown

If you like The Room series, I highly recommend this one to you, too.  I think I paid $4.99 for it in the iPhone app store, and it was worth every penny.  It comes with clues similar to The Room, but I needed some extra help as I neared the end (possibly due to my own laziness/concentration issues).  I wound up tapping a walk-through, which not only had text guidance but video as well.  Some of the clues left me stumped so this was really useful.  The music in the game was phenomenal, as well, with the mien you’d expect for Da Vinci’s time.  I’d give the game a 4/5.

What I Didn’t Finish

Title: Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Series: Mario, Rabbids
System: Nintendo Switch

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle coverDate Started: May 14, 2018
Date DNF: June 26, 2018

There were definitely aspects of the  game I enjoyed.  I was pleasantly shocked at how well the Rabbids were incorporated into the Mario world.  They always came off as a bit annoying to me (like the Minions seem to most people), but this crossover worked surprisingly well.  Even the story that goes along with how it came about makes sense.  I wasn’t too fond of the battle system, which isn’t a slight on its part.  It’s just not for me.  It’s also possible I wasn’t doing it in the most efficient way, but c’est la vie?  I’m going to return the title to my coworker with thanks for lending it to me, and I think I’ll find a nice LP to watch since I am interested in where things go.

Title: Final Fantasy V
Series: Final Fantasy
System: PlayStation 3

Date Started: June 17, 2017
Date DNF: May 27, 2018

I called it quits after the Ancient Library.  The job system is just not working for me.  I like the characters and enjoy the story, but it started being a chore to play it.  I told myself if I could find a decent Let’s Play, I’d concurrently watch V while starting VI, and that’s just what I did.

Title: Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Series: Mario, Rabbids
System: Nintendo Switch

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle coverDate Started: May 14, 2015

This is surprisingly fun, and I say surprisingly only because I’ve never played any Rabbids game before.  They remind me of Minions, which I hate much less than the average internet user (I’m also a bit confused why they’re so abhorred besides the propensity of Baby Boomers to share memes of them, which I usually just scroll past.  I think the Minions themselves are cute), so their antics don’t bother me.  The combination of Mario and the Rabbids actually works, probably because there’s always some crazy shenanigans going on in the Mushroom Kingdom, so an invasion of raving rabbids with a device that can combine two separate things isn’t that far fetched.

It only took me three months to finish my second game of 2018!  it was fun, witty, and extremely self-aware.  Like self-aware to the point that it was an integral plot device.  My favorite character is definitely Delores, though I do love Agent Ray’s snark.  Delores is completely genuine and nice, as well as a game programmer.

What I Played

Title: Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius
Series: Final Fantasy
System: Android (Kindle)

Final Fantasy: Brave ExviusThis counts as a “What I Played” in terms of I played it for maybe twenty minutes the other day.  I’d love to keep up with this daily since you’re given rewards every time you log on, and it would be easier to keep up with the story, but I just don’t.  There are still a bunch of characters I haven’t found yet, and I know this because on some of the expeditions you need to have a particular one, and alas, I do not.

I played a tiny bit of this, picked up a few more moons, but I think I’m done with it for now.  A lot of the after game moons are beyond my skill level (owing to what I saw Olizandri do), and I’m pretty satisfied with what I’ve played and seen so far.
