I mean…yeah, I finished it, but I’m not finished with it.  The answer to what the hell those grey boxes are has been answered, and the ending was cute if cliched.  Not just Mario game cliched, but annoying romance tropes cliched.  It’s okay though.  I love Bowser.  I need to collect like 30 more moons in the after game before I can do anything else, but I’m in a pretty cool location, and I’ll have more to say about this below…

What I Played

Nintendo 3DS

Title: Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth
Series: Etrian Odyssey
Genre: RPG/JRPG – Fantasy
Developer: Atlus
Release Date: August 4, 2016

I’m on the third stratum now, lovingly called the Fetid Necropolis.  As you can imagine there are a lot of undead enemies, including these Zombie Mutts with spinning heads that give you Confused Needles if you kill them while they’re panicked (otherwise known as confused).  There are also Skeleswords, which are more annoying than terrifying.  They follow you around unless they come across a patch of light where they disappear.  I’ve spent a lot of time beating them, because they give you Rusted Swords, which are useful for upgrading Fencer weapons.  They’re irritating though, because you’ll often find them in a line, and you can get mobbed by them.  EOV is the only turn-based games I’ve played where you can be attacked by another enemy while you’re in the midst of a fight.  I can usually clear out a floor fairly quickly, but I’ve been wandering around the 12th for a while now.  I should hopefully find the stairs up to the 13th soon and more enemies with conditional drops.

Story Based/Definitive Ending Games

On Hold
  1. Final Fantasy V – I’m going to wait until I clear out some of the games I’m in the midst of before picking this back up.  I’ll still count this time in my Playing Duration, but I’m not going to include it in this update until I pick up the sticks again.
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Origins – Same goes for this one.

Title: Super Mario Odyssey
Series: Super Mario
Genre: Platformer/Puzzle – Adventure
Developer: Nintendo
Release Date: October 27, 2017
Date Started: October 29, 2017

I was hoping to count this among my finished of 2017 (and if any list needed padding, it’s that one.  I’m pretty sure I’m the sandbagger among my blogger buddies hehe), but alas it was not to be.  I’m right at the end, too, in Bowser’s Kingdom, fighting the Broodals for (what I’m hoping is) the last time.  I made an attempt, but sadly failed.  I couldn’t figure out how to knock off the legs so that the final Broodal bubble is in the right spot for pecking (that…is a weird sentence).  Of course there’s a shit ton of after game, er, afterwards, so I’ll have to figure out how I’m going to count that when I get to it.

I still haven’t done Karnak Castle.  Really what it is is picking this back up again would be a production.  I need to set up the table for my laptop, because the instructions I wrote for myself are in OneNote.  I seriously hate timing things in games.  It ramps up my anxiety tenfold because I know I have to rush, which amps up the chances of me messing up or missing something.  I know some people work well/better under pressure, but I am not one of those people.

Owing to the hectic nature of the season, I may not be playing this again until the new year.  I’m actually now wondering if it’s on a handheld system.  Due to their convenience (I can literally just pick one up), I find myself more prone to play games like that.

Progress: Chapter 3

I decided to call it quits on this and add it to my Let’s Play list.  I realized I wasn’t enjoying it after I completed my first Elite Mission.   I don’t like the combat, though this is more than likely due to it being an action RPG, and I’m really hoping that the FFVII Remake isn’t like this.  Though on the other hand, I’m not really into Type-0’s story either, which shouldn’t be a problem with VII.  There are a lot of characters who are all Agito Cadets, but you don’t really get any story on them.  In the beginning you find out that Ace is the “best?” or something, which is what “Mother” says.  It almost seems like another attempt to replicate VII’s paradigms, but without VII’s heart.

Progress: Chapter 3 – Expert Mission – United Front

I just started Chapter 3 and was giving access to an eidolon (Shiva I think) in addition to an optional expert mission north of the Togoreth area.  I initially walked all the way up there anyway (well, I rode a chocobo all the way up there) for another mission only to find out the prerequisite for that is the United Front task.  I’m glad it’s easy to get back to Akademia, but I wish faster travel would open up already.  I did manage to breed some war chocobos, so there’s that.  Right now nothing is attacking me while I’m on the birds, but I suspect the roaming monsters in the Togoreth region might very well do so.

I called it quits because it was almost 9:00 and I have more to do, but I think after I complete the Expert Mission, I’m going to go back and redo some of the earlier ones in order to make more gil and harvest more phantoma.  Apparently, replaying earlier missions is the only real way to earn gil in the game, according to the Google.

Progress: Chapter 2 – Next Mission (finally)

I finished all the leveling last Friday, and I’m finally back in the game!  I had 1 day and 4 hours left to kill (in game) before my next mission, and that went by really quickly  Doing certain things eats up hours, and leaving the school for any reason drops you down three.  I took a task in Corsi Cave to find something called a Pretty Pelt for someone in the Armory, and within the environs I found a girl whose boyfriend had been turned into a frog.  Unfortunate.  According to what I googled, I can’t do anything for her at the moment, but apparently, she shows up randomly, and you can perform tasks for her.  I also found one of those tags for the moogle who’s looking for them.  Oh!  Speaking of moogles, they’re all wearing costumes!!  I guess it’s for Halloween so the game must have some internal mechanism for knowing what time of the year it is.  It’s really cute.  The last thing I did before Mission Day was accept an invite to this creepy scientist’s lab…where, for lack of a better term, I was immediately roofied…twice.  Thankfully, nothing bad happened (that I know of…) and I received a mega-ether out of the deal.
