The Sunshine Blogger Award #3

They say good things come in threes, and it’s hard to deny that when a spectacular blogger named Triform Trinity nominates you for a blogging award 😀 (I really didn’t plan that…it just worked out perfectly).  TT runs a blog full of gaming wisdom (he was wise enough to know you don’t mess with me when it comes to Sephiroth) and is also one of my near, dear Nintendo Switch friends.  I was worried it had been a really long time since I’d been nominated, but it’s only been a couple of months.  Go me!

Sunshine Blogger Award

I was presented with some very clever questions that I hope my answers of worthy of.

If you could choose one type of food to eat for the rest of your life what would it be? – Cake.  Ahhh I love cake so much.  It’s like my kryptonite lol.  Yellow cake with buttercream icing to be exact.  I’m great at parties…so long as those parties contain that type of cake.  If we’re talking about a non-dessert food, I’d have to say…probably pizza, because there are so many different varieties that you could always think of a way to spice it up so you’d never be bored.

Games Alive: 1980-2017

The Well-Red Mage asks: “What’s your favorite game every year you’ve been alive?”  I’m one of the last to answer, because I’m always late to these types of parties.  I’ve seen plenty of “Favorite Game” posts, but never one quite like this, and it was both challenging and enjoying to put together over the last two months.  I’m one of the oldest people to respond, meaning I have quite a lot of years to go through, so without further ado…

1980 – Pac-Man

This one was more difficult than I’d like to admit, but there weren’t too many games I could draw from at this point in time, which led me to this classic among classics.  I wasn’t very good at this game, but if you stick your finger in your ear and wiggle it around, I think you’ll hear something familiar 😀

1981 – Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong game coverBack when Mario was merely Jump Man and Pauline was a kidnapping victim, long before she was the mayor of New Donk City, there was this arcade classic.  I was better at this than Pac-Man; I’ve always been better at platforming than avoiding random enemies.

Final Fantasy Friday – The Worst of the Best

Final Fantasy Friday

First, I have to apologize for missing the last Final Fantasy Friday.  Circumstances out of my control made it so that I wasn’t home in order to make the post.  It was kind of a bloodbath, but I did emerge victorious.  I’m not giving up a series about my favorite game franchise, so never worry about that.

With that out of the way, I have been trying to do “easier” questions, as in ones that won’t take me too much time to answer, because there is a ton going on.  I have more complex/detailed questions to put out, but for now, I’m going to stick with the single answer ones.  With that…

Final Fantasy Friday: Over Tunes

Final Fantasy Friday

No Final Fantasy soundtrack is complete without a rousing overworld song.  With that in mind…

What’s your favorite overworld music?

I’ll answer this question in two parts.  First, my favorite music directly from the game as in unaltered from what you hear while you’re playing, and second, my favorite overworld theme orchestrated.

I have to go with Final Fantasy IV for my favorite theme in game.

FFIV was just ahead of its time and so proficient in numerous areas, not the least of which was music.  It boasts the greatest number of good songs in its soundtrack (based on my opinion of course) that is to say, I like the majority of songs on its OST.  While I might like the music from other games more, I like more of the music from Final Fantasy IV.

And Final Fantasy X takes the gold for my favorite orchestrated theme.  It more than occasionally brings the tears, so I have to declare it the winner.

What’s your favorite overworld theme?  As you can see mine doesn’t align with my favorite game (it actually took a bit for FFVII’s “Main Theme” to grow on me.  I like it now, but wasn’t that fond of it when I first heard it).  Does yours?  Discussion party in the comments!

Final Fantasy Friday: Epic Employment

Final Fantasy Friday

A few months ago the Nerd Speaker posted a piece about class, and no I’m not talking about elitism or (the lack of) school on Saturday.  I thought this was a brilliant idea, and hope he doesn’t mind me riding his coattails a bit for this week’s question of…

What’s your favorite class?

Paladin.  You get the best of both worlds with a moderate healer and powerful warrior.

There’s also the White Knight thing, which, while wholly unwelcome in certain online entanglements, is always a relief to see in fantasies across all mediums.  I’m also probably biased since Cecil Harvey (see Exhibit A) is my favorite male MC, but I lean more towards the offensive classes than the defensive/curative ones anyway.  Screw that stereotypical female healer thing.  I want to make things bleed.

So your homework for this week is to discuss your favorite job type in the comments below.  You can pick more than one, and using examples will earn you extra points.  Got that?  Okay, class dismissed!

Creative Christmas – A Partridge in “Despair” Tree

Tis the Christmas season (or Advent to be theologically accurate), and in the spirit of the season, the lovely blogger over at Later Levels has decided to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas a few days earlier with 12 gaming related questions for all of us good, little gaming elves out there.  These are my responses.

🎶   22 December 2017:   It’s now Christmas Eve and you’re throwing a lively party for all your friends, family and favourite characters. Which video game soundtracks would be on your playlist?

Can I say Advent Children just for the lulz?  Because…it’s the season of Advent, huh?  Tiny factoid: Final Fantasy VII actually started on December 9.  Yes really!  Look up the timeline.  That means FFVII takes place…during Advent #mindblown

Anyway, I’ve always thought the orchestrated ending theme to Final Fantasy IV had a part that sounded like sleigh bells starting around 3:00.

Then there’s the Voices of the Lifestream version of “Buried in Snow” titled “Frozen Landscape,” which is better than the original (and I wish/hope they’d use it in the Remake).  It just seems like a song best realized in the minor key.  The OST version is kind of dowdy, and doesn’t capture the wilder, fiercer, desperate need to break through the blizzard that Voices does.

Hey look!  There’s a suggestion for 70 minutes of Nintendo winter and holiday music!  I could just put that on ad call it an Eve(ning).  Okay, I don’t really like that one, but the hour of festive holiday video game music is much better.

Oh…well I know why, the first song is from FFXIV, called “Starlight Celebration.”  Wow, this is…amazing.

*star eyes*

What video game soundtracks would you have on your holiday playlist?  Would you just pick one or would you have a mixture?  Sound off in the comments!

Final Fantasy Friday: Creepy Caverns

Final Fantasy Friday

Hat trick of creep this week.  Bonus: it rhymes, too!  Also  reminder that this will be the last Final Fantasy Friday post until December.  I’m going to make an official announcement post about what’s going to be suspended throughout November, but I figured a reminder in the final one isn’t a bad notion either.

I’m currently recovering from anesthesia.  No, I didn’t get bionic limbs (though I did ask for them), just something weird but simple that required your favorite Narcissist to be knocked out.  Never fear, I woke up even more beautiful and amazing than ever, and when I returned home, there were offerings to my greatness at my door.  The peasants do love me ♥

I usually try to tie the week’s question with something going on, and I suppose waking up from brief, medically induced unconsciousness could be considered coming out of a dark cave so….
