Progress: Chapter 2 – Leaving on first official mission

No time to play.  Hopefully this weekend; if not, when I’m on vacay in September.  Then I’m playing the hell out of this every day and finishing it.

Progress: Walz Tower

I finished Walz Tower, and with the levels gained there, managed to take down Shiva.  So now I have a new summon, and I have more Jobs I can switch to, which I haven’t done yet.  I might wait to gain some levels on the Jobs I have now, which are:

  • Knight – Bartz
  • Black Mage – Reina
  • White Mage – Galuf
  • Blue Mage – Faris

I think I’m only around Level 12, but I don’t know the exact ones.  My next stop is Karnak.

Progress: Chapter 2 – Leaving on first official mission

I finally got some play time in this week.  I explored the entirety of the school and figured out how to switch characters.  I’m still not completely comfortable with the battle system, but since the very next thing I’m doing is fighting, I suppose I’ll get more practice in.  I’m assuming after this first official mission, I’ll have access to the Coliseum where I can do CBA’s leveling trick.

I did not play this at all last week, but I’ve decided I’m just going to move onto Walz Tower instead of trying to grind up enough levels to defeat Shiva.  I’ll come back later.

Progress: Outside Walz Castle – Grinding

I did some brief leveling this weekend, while watching Adventure Time, because grinding is kind of boring.  I want to get to Level 13 before I take on Shiva again, but now that I’m thinking about it, I won’t have the Level 2 black magic anyway (Fire 2), so I’ll probably just continue onto Walz Tower next time I play.  I can (hopefully) come back for Shiva right after that.

Progress: Chapter 2

I managed to muddle my way through Chapter 1, defeat the Tiger L’Cie with Odin, and now I’m back at the academy after a long cut scene showing a meeting of the higher ups.  The coolest person there was obviously Dr. Arecia Al-Rashia..

I have quite the lady boner right now, but I’m pretty sure she’s going to end up being one of those morally ambiguous if not downright evil characters, since she appears to be fulfilling Final Fantasy’s mad scientist archetype shared by VII’s Hojo and IV’s Lugae who both did utterly reprehensible things.  *spoiler* It doesn’t help that she’s Ace’s mother, so she’s more of a combination of Hojo and Lucrecia in one.  In the meeting it’s revealed the Agito Cadets were created by combining magic and technology,.*end spoiler*

The more I think about it, the more I realize Final Fantasy is more science fantasy than anything else.  Even FFs I-VI with their more  high fantasy setting have that element to them.  Hm, since IV-VI have that steampunkish vibe, could we then consider the steampunk subgenre to be a facet of science fantasy, as well?  (I’m posting this to the Book of Faces, as well…wish me luck.)

If I had the time and PS4 usage, I’d start Type-0.  I used to make my definite gaming day Wednesdays when my husband went bowling, but it’s the off season for that, so I don’t really have a designated gaming night.  So as it is, I’m still playing this, but not religiously.  It’s more I’ll boot it up on my Kindle if I have some time before bed.

I’m still playing this almost every night, but I’m not religiously logging in on a daily basis.  The story is still really interesting, and I have a ton of Missions again.  The Giant of Babil vortex quest is quite compelling, but I think I’ve gotten as far as I’m going to get with the Titan raid.  I may do the Crystal Tower a few more times (if it’s still there), but I think I’m going to wean myself off of this (as I was saying in the last post).  I eventually will, but I’m a Taurus…we do things kind of slowly hehe.

As odd as this might seem to say, this is not a game I play too late.  There are some, well not horrifying, but more like startling, scary things like finding a skull inside of a dive helmet.  It’s a just a little bit creepy.

I really want to start Type-0, but I’m not at liberty to play the PS4 whenever time allows me.  I may see about getting one for myself.  Maybe if I get one that doesn’t have as much memory it won’t be that expensive *adds it to list*

Am I starting to get bored with this?  Eh, maybe a little.  I still like the story; the dialogue is clever; the music is excellent, but some of the daily stuff is starting to become tiring.  It’s hard to level up because you’re kind of at the whim of whether or not you receive the right materials in order to do it, and of course I could spend lapis and eventually money to grind more for them, which is how they get you.  I’m going to keep going for now, but I may start cutting back on how often I play.  Right now I log in every day in order to collect my daily reward.

They hooked me.  The Room was free; The Room Two was $2.99 and irresistible to a puzzle lover such as myself.  It’s a little bit more expansive than The Room, as in you’re not limited to just one spot, but are literally in a room with numerous places to look for clues.  As such, the puzzles are a little more obvious.  Finding a light bulb will probably set off a mental light bulb that it belongs in an empty socket, and finding a scrap of a picture will intuitively need to go onto a torn one.  It’s still challenging, but in a different way.

So much pharming and grinding.  I’ve made a little bit of progress in the story, but I feel really behind in terms of where my characters are.  I’ve only been playing for a few months so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself.  The game is still fun though there are some days where I don’t do anything besides collect my daily rewards.  The plot is still interesting enough to warrant me spending so much time leveling to see more.

I’ve finished the chapters and am currently in the epilogue that I didn’t know existed.  I thought I’d be able to say I finished it this week, but I’m enjoying the extra level and the eerie little story that goes along with it.  I do think it’s much better to play through each chapter in one sitting, since you might forget where you leave off or certain clues you found in the beginning.  There are clues, but it would be nice to figure out a level without using any of them.

I seem to have fallen into a cycle with this game.  I’ll log on every day so I don’t miss my daily reward.  Send/receive friend gifts, summon a unit if I receive enough friend gifts (the units usually aren’t very good).  Next I’ll grab the daily reward and check the daily deals.  If it’s a good one, I’ll buy it.  Then I’ll usually spend 100 lapis for 20k gil, which I’ll use to purchase the daily metal cactuar deal for experience.  I’ll level up my characters (usually using the “friend” summon unit, too) and see if I can awaken anyone.  The items I’m usually missing for that are Sacred Crystals and Heaven Ash.  So it’s off to the Chamber of Awakening to pharm those items. I was doing the Shadow of the Empire Vortex mission, too, but the PRO one kicked my ass.  I made it to the fourth boss, but not even the ultima spell was doing me much good, and he killed even my higher level companion character (the one who could cast the ultima spell) with one turn.  Besides the vortex mission, I do the other stuff while watching either Mass Effect 3 or Bob’s Burgers on Kisscartoon.io (they changed the extension from .me).
