What I Bought

  • Nier Automata – $23.99 @ Best Buy – I returned my extra copy of Jurassic World: Evolution for store credit, and I still have around $30 left to play around with.  Not sure what else I’m going to buy.  I might grab a Switch GC or something since BB only sells games for the latest systems (PS4, Xbone, and Switch).  Give me your best suggestions on what I should spend my credit on!

What I Finished

While I didn’t fully “finish” the game aka I didn’t beat the “true” final boss, I still completely everyone’s chapters, and I’m satisfied with that.  I watched a tutorial on that last big battle and I decided “nah.”  It was way too involved, and I’d already left my Switch on overnight because there’s a boss rush right before it and no save.  The boss rush isn’t hard if you’re in the high 60’s/low 70’s for level like I was, but still.  I’m more than happy with what I got out of the game.  I’m hoping they’ll add more content, because there’s still plenty of map that needs to be filled out.

What I Received

  • A box of games from Cheap Boss Attack – an early Christmas surprise, a bunch of games for super cheap to add to my collection and backlog 🙂
    • Yo-Kai Watch
    • Shining Resonance Refrain – the question of whether or not to buy or pass on this was kind of answered for me, since I couldn’t pass up a deal.  I think you can set the battle to easy so I can just enjoy the story.
    • Divinity: Original Sin
    • Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception – I need to learn how to pronounce this.  I kept copying and pasting the name because it’s too difficult to spell.
    • Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth
    • Pillars of Eternity
    • Blue Reflection
  • $50 Nintendo Switch GC – It’s the big one with Bowser on it, too!  I got this from my big bro ♥
  • Jurassic World Evolution  – I received this as a Christmas present from my parents-in-law who are serious about buying gifts.  They go all out for the holiday every year.  I’ll discuss more below, but I actually received two of them.  My husband and his mother didn’t communicate, and she went out and bought the first eleven things on my list (I’m…not kidding).  I have the gift receipt so I’m going to exchange one for Nier Automata, which was also on my list.

I am so close to the end, y’all.  I spent the past month leveling all of my characters while watching Let’s Plays.  It was very efficient.  Everyone now knows ever skill from every job and each character is in the high 70’s at least.  All that’s left is to do final preparations and go to the last dungeon.  I haven’t done so because you can only save right outside before a boss rush before the absolute final, and I need time to do that.  Here’s hoping I get to before the end of the year!

I’ve managed to snag the Starseer and Sorcerer jobs, and I’m preparing to go after the Warbringer by grinding in the Forest of Purgation.  I debated challenging the dire wolf there again, but the walkthrough I have for that suggests using Warbringer skills so I’m at least going to wait until I defeat Winnehild, which was the first I attempted to my rue.  I think I’m better prepared now, but I haven’t had a chance to hop on the sticks in about a week.  I’m hoping to give it a try tonight.

I have all of the secondary jobs now and am currently working on everyone’s third chapter.  I’d love to hear how other players prefer to dole them out.  I had Olberic as a Hunter, but honestly, I don’t think it added much to his repertoire.  I like him as an Apothecary better, because it gives him use of the axe and that Amputate spell, which is boss.  Plus he can use some ice magic.  I like Ophilia as either a Dancer or Scholar since that gives her more magic to use, though I’d rather keep someone else as a Scholar to spread it around.   Tressa is definitely a Thief because holy shit is Collecting more fantastic.  I think I grabbed 20,000 leaves (what a weird currency lol) from the python and snake charmer near Wellspring, and that’s each.  I like Primrose as a Scholar because I can have her Analyze.  She’s more of a support character at the moment, which isn’t a slight on her at all.

I found two Job Shrines: Scholar and Thief.  I gave thief to Tressa at the recommendation of Drakulus and gave Scholar to Olberic, because he’s my permanent party member, and I want someone to have the Analyze ability (at all times). It was confirmed for me that each character’s special ability (like Therion’s chest opening skill) remains their own even if you give another character their same job, so I’ll continue to bring the thief with me into new territories and dungeons.

Well…I gave into peer pressure, summoned my magical credit card, and bought Octopath Traveler a few weeks ago.  I…regret…NOTHING.  This game is amazing and worth the high price of new Nintendo Switch releases.  The sprite graphics are perfect for an old head like me, but I’m shocked at how much I love the English voice acting.  Usually, I opt for Japanese with subtitles if I have the choice, but something told me to give the English a try, and I’m glad I did.  It’s not fully voiced, only certain scenes, but nearly early line has some sort of vocalization in at the start.
