Paper Mario: Color SplashLet’s Player: Olizandri

I’d heard some pretty scathing critiques about this latest Paper offering’s battle system. but it’s still a Paper Mario, still a Mario RPG, and I wanted to see if the mechanics weren’t too wonky to overlook or if the rest of the experience would override an overly complicated card clash.

List: Games Alive – 4/22/18

Ugh…the Games Alive list posted in February because I accidentally published it back then before it was completed.  I forgot WordPress keeps the original publication date unless you schedule it.  I was wondering why the hell I wasn’t seeing it recently.

My hunt for this picture’s source revealed that this is not technically one of Sephiroth, but rather of someone else who shares similar features.  I think it looks a great deal like him with blue lilies in his hair, so I’m going to allow it.

Something very interesting happened to me recently.  I received a contact from someone who thought I was the author of The Broken Orrery, the best written fanfiction I’ve ever read, written CymbelinesHalo.  It’s been over a year since she updated, and the message I received asked if was the author as they implored me to please remedy this.  I was quite flattered that someone had mistaken me for this writing genius, but I had to set the record straight and inform them that I was the author of Northern Lights (TBR isnt on Fanfiction.net; it’s way outside of their draconian censorship stipulations), and I, too, was waiting with bated breath for TBO to be updated.  They haven’t gotten back to me, so I hope their disappointment wasn’t too heartfelt.

Date Finished: January 27, 2018

I mean…yeah, I finished it, but I’m not finished with it.  The answer to what the hell those grey boxes are has been answered, and the ending was cute if cliched.  Not just Mario game cliched, but annoying romance tropes cliched.  It’s okay though.  I love Bowser.  I need to collect like 30 more moons in the after game before I can do anything else, but I’m in a pretty cool location, and I’ll have more to say about this below…

Title: Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth
Series: Etrian Odyssey
Genre: RPG/JRPG – Fantasy
Developer: Atlus
Release Date: August 4, 2016

I’m on the third stratum now, lovingly called the Fetid Necropolis.  As you can imagine there are a lot of undead enemies, including these Zombie Mutts with spinning heads that give you Confused Needles if you kill them while they’re panicked (otherwise known as confused).  There are also Skeleswords, which are more annoying than terrifying.  They follow you around unless they come across a patch of light where they disappear.  I’ve spent a lot of time beating them, because they give you Rusted Swords, which are useful for upgrading Fencer weapons.  They’re irritating though, because you’ll often find them in a line, and you can get mobbed by them.  EOV is the only turn-based games I’ve played where you can be attacked by another enemy while you’re in the midst of a fight.  I can usually clear out a floor fairly quickly, but I’ve been wandering around the 12th for a while now.  I should hopefully find the stairs up to the 13th soon and more enemies with conditional drops.
