Because of extenuating circumstances (which I’ll detail in a bit), I haven’t gotten much editing done on Chapter 21.  I have started it, though, and cataloged what I need to add/work on.  I’m hoping to play catch today after some major setbacks over the weekend and be back on schedule with everything soon.

Sephiroth staring forward with an almost expressionless look on his face even though his lips are curled slightly up. His slit pupils are clearly visible, as well as the upturned color of his black, leather coat. Silver hair frames his face surrounded by embers and the suggestion of flames. In the top left corner are the words "Chapter 20 Mercy."I went through the gambit of pictures before settling on this one alone.  If I were better at image manipulation, I would’ve done a layered one with Aeris looking at him, but I decided to scrap that due to lack of skill.  I absolutely adore this picture though; I’ve used it quite a few times in my slideshows, and it resonated with me for this particular chapter, which has been building since the very beginning.  My readers are quite bloodthirsty, too…I’ve already received some accolades for this selection.

I listened to all three of these while writing/editing this chapter.

Sephiroth fulfills the promise he made to Aeris the day he found her.

The sky above Midgar was blood tinged in haze with the remnants of sun on its edges.  It bathed the dead city in crimson fall, but meant nothing to those far below.  For those above it meant nothing either, for they were long gone and fled.  Cracked concrete and twisted street lamps paid homage to once reigning estates, and the tower of course, that monolith mighty, still ever raped the sky.

Down, down below in what once was a church, a greasy man counted his gil.  A tongue darted out over thin lips, as pitted eyes shone bright with glee.  It was more money then he’d ever held, and his “business” was profitable.  A chain skittered past his flurry of feet as the slaver paced, thumbing his bills.  He glanced up and around where stained glass smeared the light to fall upon his fellows.  All were busy with the same occupation…and in planning restock of “supplies.”

The doors did not creak but a shiver of cold caused the man to look up.  A vision unseen in half of a year darkened what light reached the slums.  His hands didn’t flutter because he held gil, but the slaver quick stove it away.  Wringing damp fingers, he flashed slimy smile regretful in supplication.

“Great General, oh!  Oh, you’ve returned.  I’m sorry I’ve no more wares.  We’re all full cleaned out.  The last was sold no more’n an hour ago.  You wouldn’t believe the wealth of demand.  Men of means and great appetite.”  He straightened tawdry clothes on ungainly form so shadowed by greatness and pale.  The angelic face could’ve been a wall for what expression was held therein.  Large fists in their leather tightened unseen, nearly splitting the tough, shiny skin.  The fool slaver tittered and puttered about, sweeping chains ‘neath a pew with his foot.  “But who cares about that.  Let’s talk about you!  How are you liking the girl?  I know you enjoyed her.  She was my best.  Her tiny cunt was exquisite.”  He could not help but muse as he chuckled, missing wrath that could empty all worlds.  “No matter how many men she amused, it always remained tight and wet.  But I’m sure you know that by now.  What’s it been, over half a year?”

Silence ruled mask shrouded by silver, as the slaver grinned with slightest shrug.  The general had always been an impassive man, but the girl had surely pleased him.  There had never once been any complaint even from those who preferred her not breeding.  No matter the time nor her condition, that cunt was always a dream.  “I’m sure by now you’ve well experienced the satisfaction of her screams. I miss her still, Great General…”  Beady eyes turned to bright stone.  “Perhaps,” he wheedled the figure unmoving save for the grip of his fist.  “Perhaps we could make a dea-”

Sephiroth prepares for a special hunt that will leave Aeris alone for several days.

A near profile of Sephiroth on the left side of the frame. He is looking intense and determined toward the right. His eyelashes are very dark and dramatic.  Up near his eye level against a backdrop of misty green are the words “Chapter 19 Preparations.”  His silver hair curls upward  on the opposite side of the frame and the words.

Aeris awoke to the Great General’s voice.

“The timing is imperative.”

The miasma of sleep did circle her round, shielded from nightmares within in his embrace.

“I am normally a very patient man, but it is running dry.”

The little Cetra was swathed in no less than two blankets along with her guardian’s arms.  Light from the ceiling augmented the screen for she’d been reading before her nap.  Her head rested on her general’s chest, hand curled against his shirt.  Dream webs stung her eyes so she blinked them away to fade amidst summer soft.

“It must be done soon.  You have the first funding.”  Frost skin was so taut without twitch.  “Winter will be upon us soon.  This cannot be suffered to wait.”

I was hoping to have Chapter 19 posted by today.  In fact had I not woken up at 5 I probably would have. Everything is all set up; I just need to do it.  If I get this post done in a timely manner and I have the brain power, I will afterwards.

Progress: Chapter 19 Third Edit

So I lied…again.  I was going to post Chapters 19 and 20 concurrently in order to fulfill the intention of my promised delivery of justice.  That is no longer true, because I want to get Chapter 19 out as soon as I finish it, leaving you all to wallow in anticipation for just a bit longer as you await this fabled retribution, or I would think this if I were even half as narcissistic as I claim to be when in reality I know you all have way better things to do than await my next chapter hahaha who am I kidding but seriously I’M WORKING AS FAST AS I CAN PLEASE DON’T HATE ME.

I thought Chapter 19 was going to be shorter, but it’s a decent length chapter in its own right even after truncation, and since I’ve already sorta edited parts of Chapter 20, it shouldn’t take as long to get that out *fingers crossed*

Progress: Chapter 19 Second Edit

Okay, so I might have lied a little bit, though not intentionally, which means it’s not really a lie, is it?  It’s more like I gave the information I had at the time, and that information changed.  Chapter 19 will not featured one of my favorite and definitely most vengeful part of the story.  I decided to do some rearranging because I wasn’t thrilled with how the next chapter started, so I combined parts of Chapter 20 with the original Chapter 19, which means the beginning part of the latter is now going to be its own chapter, and Chapter 19 is now going to be Chapter 20.  If that doesn’t make any sense, don’t worry about it.  I’m planning to post both Chapters concurrently, so you’ll still get what I promised; in fact, you’ll get more 🙂
