I was really into this when I first started it, but my interest has started to wane and I’m not sure why.   There’s more backtracking in this game and I’ve only gone to two towns.  I already have an idea of what a major twist is going to be.  It’s something Squeenix has done before if I’m right.

I was mostly avoiding grinding and that was to my own detriment.  I was barely getting through boss battles usually after the second or third time trying, and I finally wound up googling how to defeat one.  The strategy involves things I haven’t done yet with skills I don’t have.  I picked up a ton of new jobs and was trying to learn them as I went along, but really I should’ve been using the “bait” items that cause you to get into multiple battles in order to earn Job Points (JP).  If you give two characters the JP up abilities you’ll earn like six job levels per battle session.  Since there are twelve levels per job that means it only takes two.  I was also not doling out my armor properly so I’ll remedy that.  I’m really trying not to use a strat guide for this game and figure it out myself, but sometimes you need that little nudge.  I’m wondering how many jobs there will be.  Every time you beat a boss you get a new one.

A Sunshine Blogger Award from A Geeky Gal

More catch up.  Apparently I have a lot of Sunshine Blogger Awards to catch up on.  A Geeky Gal is lovely.  So much gaming and cosplay.  All of the stuff I love ♥

Question time!

1. What game are you currently playing?

I’m still in the midst of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is of course amazing btw.  Even though I’ve technically finished it, as in finished all of the chapters, I still have a lot of side stuff to complete before the next part comes out, since I know there will be some way to transfer your data from the first game to the second (think Mass Effect), and I want to have everything I possibly can.

I started this game called Golf Story, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.  It’s not really pulling me in.  It’s a sports RPG about (shock) golf.  I’m going to give it some more time, but I haven’t picked it up in a few days.

Finally I’m playing this awesome puzzle game called The House of da Vinci II.  If you like The Room (the puzzle game not the god awful movie lol), I’d highly recommend this and the first one.  So.  Good.

I don’t really remember when I started/finished this again, but I know I picked it up from the Nintendo eShop on the 7th and I’ve already played through it, so that’s good enough.  This was an easy purchase and replay because the game is just so good.  It has replay value because the puzzles are complicated and compelling enough that you still have to either remember what you did or figure them out again.  I’m really hoping they release the rest of the series on the Switch.

This is not supposed to be a once a month post, but the last scheduled one was on 7/10, which is my big brother’s birthday and we went out to dinner for that.  By the time I got home it was really late and I was really tired, but he’d had a great time with a bunch of his friends and family, and that’s all that matters.  If I wasn’t so fat and sleepy, I wouldn’t have neglected you fine people, but now you get to see what I’ve been up to for the past month.

If you like The Room series, I highly recommend this one to you, too.  I think I paid $4.99 for it in the iPhone app store, and it was worth every penny.  It comes with clues similar to The Room, but I needed some extra help as I neared the end (possibly due to my own laziness/concentration issues).  I wound up tapping a walk-through, which not only had text guidance but video as well.  Some of the clues left me stumped so this was really useful.  The music in the game was phenomenal, as well, with the mien you’d expect for Da Vinci’s time.  I’d give the game a 4/5.

So much pharming and grinding.  I’ve made a little bit of progress in the story, but I feel really behind in terms of where my characters are.  I’ve only been playing for a few months so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself.  The game is still fun though there are some days where I don’t do anything besides collect my daily rewards.  The plot is still interesting enough to warrant me spending so much time leveling to see more.

I’ve finished the chapters and am currently in the epilogue that I didn’t know existed.  I thought I’d be able to say I finished it this week, but I’m enjoying the extra level and the eerie little story that goes along with it.  I do think it’s much better to play through each chapter in one sitting, since you might forget where you leave off or certain clues you found in the beginning.  There are clues, but it would be nice to figure out a level without using any of them.

I seem to have fallen into a cycle with this game.  I’ll log on every day so I don’t miss my daily reward.  Send/receive friend gifts, summon a unit if I receive enough friend gifts (the units usually aren’t very good).  Next I’ll grab the daily reward and check the daily deals.  If it’s a good one, I’ll buy it.  Then I’ll usually spend 100 lapis for 20k gil, which I’ll use to purchase the daily metal cactuar deal for experience.  I’ll level up my characters (usually using the “friend” summon unit, too) and see if I can awaken anyone.  The items I’m usually missing for that are Sacred Crystals and Heaven Ash.  So it’s off to the Chamber of Awakening to pharm those items. I was doing the Shadow of the Empire Vortex mission, too, but the PRO one kicked my ass.  I made it to the fourth boss, but not even the ultima spell was doing me much good, and he killed even my higher level companion character (the one who could cast the ultima spell) with one turn.  Besides the vortex mission, I do the other stuff while watching either Mass Effect 3 or Bob’s Burgers on Kisscartoon.io (they changed the extension from .me).

Platform(s): iOS, Android

I’m starting to get into a rhythm with this game.  I start it up, send and receive my friend gifts, summon a unit if I have enough friend points to do so, check the daily deals, purchase the four available cactuar (experience) units, buy the 100 lapis 30k gil bundle, and redeem my rewards including the daily one (I try to log in at least once a day even if I don’t play).  Then I upgrade some units, and I’m trying to figure out an organization for that like just enhancing one at a time.  After that I check my open missions and then go out into the world.

I want to start concentrating on awakening my units, but for that I need to collect awakening materials like Heaven Ash and Sacred Crystals, which randomly drop in the Chamber of Awakening in the Vortex.  I may make a spreadsheet for this, though I know I said I’d make one for the characters.  I realized this was an uphill and futile task since I draw and fuse characters constantly, so they’re never static.  The idea is still in the back of my head, but since I also can’t think of the best way to do it, I’m going to leave it for now.

I’m in the Lanzelt Ruins right now for anyone else who’s playing, too.  I’m not as far along as a lot of people, and I really want to know why some of the announcements are spoiling the story!  Like saying things about Fina, one of the main characters.  I just kind of skim through it and go back just to remove the notification (I hate those), but I want to work on my characters before I continue on with the story.

I really, really wish they’d give you the option of paying for a particular character you wanted, though I suppose I could spring for 5000 lapis and the 11 draw.  Maybe that will be my weekly FFBE budget.  Granted with my luck I’ll do that and still not get Setzer.  I ask again; how am I going to have my white haired pretty boy band if I don’t get him and (hopefully) eventually Sephiroth?!

Well it’s happened.  I’ve spent money on a freemium game.  $30 to be exact.  I dropped $20 about a week ago because I wanted to have enough lapis to make several summons in the hopes of getting Setzer.  I did not succeed, but I do now have Terra (actually drew her twice).  Then I had to spend $10 because I was completely out of lapis.  Pretty much lapis is the real currency of the game.  You earn it through completing quests (which cost NRG), and you can earn additional per quest by fulfilling certain variable requirements.  It’s also used to purchase more things than even gil, which can be obtained by spending lapis.  I only had 75 of the latter and I was out of material space.  In order to increase your slots, you need (you guessed it!) lapis, so I bought $10 worth.  So you can spend legitimate money in order to obtain lapis, which is in game money, which can also be used to acquire gil, which is typical Final Fantasy currency.  If I wasn’t so tired, I could think of an overarching term for what this is called, but the Narcissist had to take a nap when she got home from work, and that always throws me off a bit.

I’m currently trying to pick up espers I missed with the help of my good friend LightningEllen, and I’m a little embarrassed I missed Ifrit whom I was on the way to get, but I think I decided to leave the continent he was on and promptly forgot to go back lol.  I would not have discovered the location of Golem without help, and I’m not quite to where Shiva is located yet.  I would’ve gotten Golem last night, but I ran out of NRG, which is another consumable the game makes you expend in order to do any quests.  Once again Squeenix has me in its grip.

Okami – Per a review by Nintendo Bound, I added this unfortunately underappreciated game that seems to have been wholly missed by the mainstream.  I considered putting it on my play list, but though the story sounds gorgeous, it seems more like an action RPG, though it still might find its way onto my backlog.  If I can find a Let’s Play, I’ll watch just to see how the battle mechanics work, and if I think I can handle them, I’ll play it myself.

Miscellaneous

So this Friday is my birthday.

Using this everywhere, don’t even care.

Yasssss, damn right pallas cat!  I’m going to be 37.  I took off work because I can, and I’m hopefully driving down to West Chester to talk to my tattoo artist about my next inking.

Anyway my husband received a large Amazon box on Monday, and since I was working from home that day, I answered the door, put it on the couch, figured it was for me, and forgot about it.  When he came home, he confirmed my suspicion and asked if I wanted to open it.  I’d also received a birthday card in the mail from my father with a $50 check in it (I need to call him to thank him btw), so I figured what the hell, I’ll open the box.

I got…another box!

The game Eldritch Horror and a webcam.  A while ago I listened a podcast run by Cheap Boss Attack and his friend Chuck Zodl at Counter Attack Games (the first one I had the pleasure of experiencing), and CBA started talking about the fore mentioned game (I can’t remember what specific podcast it was, so the link just goes to the list).  I looked it up on Amazon, and it looked like something that would be fun plus I have an IRL friend who is into games of all shapes and measure who would probably be on board to play this with me.  Once I look it over, I’ll give him a buzz (as in message on Facebook.  The Shameful Narcissist avoids calling people at all costs) and make some plans to play.  Huh, I just looked at the box a bit closer and it says “1 to 8 players,” so I could play this by myself?  Haha, nooooo, I’m not doing that.  No slithering down into the bowels of insanity for THIS Narcissist.

As for the webcam, my next step is to research adequate lighting and set that up, but this is just one of the many pieces involved in the blog update I’m planning to do in June.  Hm, I should probably start prepping better for that.  I’m woefully under prepared.

What are you currently playing and/or watching? Is it something new or old?  Is it a first time run or a replay?  What’s the genre?  Would you recommend it?  What’s on your radar to play next?

I’m still hoping I somehow summon Fryevia, one of the 5 star plus summons for the Egg Hunters event.  Since it’s ending either today or tomorrow, I don’t have a lot of hope, but if I don’t, I’ll have to sell her Trust Moogle since no one else can use it.

I’m still not entirely clear on this trust bonus thing to be honest; it’s something I’ll have to research it.  I keep receiving items that has someone’s picture next to it with the term “trust bonus,” and even after looking it up, I’m not sure what it means.  The current event has increased the drop for Lightning, but in conversations with the one and only LightningEllen (and going off what my extroverted friend has suggested), we’ve come to the conclusion that spending legitimate money on the game increases your chance of rare summons.  I can’t prove it, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it were true.  I’d love to pull the pink-haired warrior lady from FFXIII.  I’ve used her as a companion character, and she’d be a great addition to my crew.  Besides, I already have Sazh and Vanille, the latter which I need to start using.

I should also get rid of the characters I don’t use anymore.  My line up has been Rain and Lasswell (two of the main characters) then Kuja, Cecil, and Leah (the White Mage).  Sometimes I’ll switch out Cecil or Leah if there’s some character condition that needs to be met e.g. you have to use Arianna, which is the one I saw.

Speaking of which, what the hell is with the Arianna Grande quest???  Like they were playing her music and everything!  I was so befuddled.  Did she get some kind of contract with Squeenix?  What is going on?  I’m old and confused.

Story-wise, I’m currently in the mountains.  I know there’s going to be some huge revelation soon. This is Final Fantasy after all hehe.

Thanks to the writer of The Dragon’s Tea Party for their review of this!  That post and the comment discussion that followed prompted me to download the game on my Kindle, so I am currently playing two games both on that magical device.

I did receive finally set it up my PS3 last week, updated it, and now I just have to play something on it.  It will probably be FFV since I keep lying about when I’m going to start that, though right now I’m at my preset limit of two games.  You could argue and say that they’re two mobile games, but they take just as much time.

The Room (which I keep wanting to just call “Room”) is a puzzle mystery game.  You start out in a room (oooo) with a safe that you have to figure out how to open.  There’s a letter on top giving you your first clue and an eyepiece without a lens.  The rest is up to you.  I’m currently on Chapter 2 (accidental rhyme) where I’ve cracked the safe, but the mystery and puzzle fun doesn’t end there.  I’m enjoying greatly, and the graphics are pretty excellent.

It was free on Android (Kindle).  I’m not sure what it is on iOS since I have no room (ha) left on my phone, but it’s more than likely the same.  If you like puzzlers and mysteries with eerie music in the background, I highly recommend!

I have to remember what I watched on Twitch and what I watched on YouTube, since I’ve been lucky enough to catch the former.  I remember now.  The intrepid crew found Noah praying in one of the caves, and Noah is, um, kind of beautiful.  Are they male or female?  The name is generally male, but the game seems to consider them a female?

Back in the main story!  I’m so happy.  The Omega DLC was interesting, but it was a lot of combat, and I’m way more interested in the story aspect of the game.  Shepherd just cured the genophage, *spoilers* at the expense of both Mordin and Eve. *end spoiler*  Olizandri, the let’s player, was curious about the latter, and I checked it out myself.  Apparently, if you save Maelon’s data,  *spoiler* Eve will survive, *end spoiler* and you’ll have a really strong alliance with the krogan.  *spoiler* I was really upset she died. *end spoiler*  Eve is an awesome character.  She’s beautiful, I love her veil, and her voice is utter magic.  I also like the friendship she can had with Shepherd, and the relationship she can have with Wrex.

Speaking of the genophage, I cannot blame the krogan in the least for everything they did in that situation.  The salarians and the turians screwed them over royally, though arguably the salarians didn’t expect anyone to actually use the genophage and believed it would only be wielded as a deterrent, but war makes monsters of us all (truth per GRRM).

The other alien races used the krogan in the Rachni Wars and then committed genocide against them.  That’s supremely fucked up.  The salarians developed it.  The turians used it.  The krogan suffered from it, and a human cured it.  No wonder Wrex has such respect for Shepherd (in the way Oliz plays).  There’s no way I wouldn’t cure the genophage in my playthrough of it either.  Yes, the krogan do breed a lot due to the environment they evolved in, but genocide is never the answer, and they deserve reparations for what occurred.

Miscellaneous

Nothing miscellaneous this week.  I started reading the Hyrule Historia, but I talked about that in my State of the Reader post.  As I was perusing the Mass Effect wiki I was wondering if there was an equivalent book for the same, because I’d read the hell out of that.  BioWare make it happen!

Also, I’ve removed WOFF from my Currently Playing list.  I figured it was time even though I said last week I’d wait a month.  Since I’m playing two other games now, my chances of just popping it on are far slimmer.  If something new happens with it, I’ll probably get back into it again.  I think Balthier is supposed to become available some time in July or August.

What are you currently playing and/or watching? Is it something new or old?  Is it a first time run or a replay?  What’s the genre?  Would you recommend it?  What’s on your radar to play next?
